    I live in Switzerland and I'd say while the gun laws make a major difference, it really is the culture. Americans have guns bc they believe it's their individual *right* to bear arms (and technically it is under the Constitution), the swiss have guns to protect their country and understand it is a *privilege* .

    • @Scortd
      @Scortd 3 роки тому +77

      I like that, "privilege" as opposed to "right". That small swap of words makes one respect the right and makes gun ownership an honor instead of a spoiled child mentally that makes one feel they should be able to take a fully loaded AR with them to get Starbucks.

    "Non-combative, chocolate-eating yodelers..." LOL I've been to Switzerland, and you can add "cleanliness police" to the list. I hitchhiked thru Europe in my youth, and left a candy wrapper on a park bench in Lucerne. And a man came over and handed it back to me. I still remember the look on his face and how ashamed I felt. It was a huge wake-up call, as I saw myself through his eyes. It was a lesson on respect, and I've never forgotten it.

However we don't have sensationalist news coverage 24/7, the idea that someone is out to get you so you need a gun, all the regulation and training discussed is a huge factor and when something bad happenes there are major votes and reforms.

I used my dad's shotgun and walked the 4 blocks to and from his house, through my Detroit neighborhood, with the gun wrapped in a bath towel because we had no case. If you tried that today you'd be in jail, probably. What happened between now and then. That was around 1977 or 78. We all knew right from wrong by that age back then, maybe kids today don't know right from wrong? We had to take and pass a basic hunting course in order to be licensed, which was mainly a firearm safety course and was basically common sense. Not like today's "common sense", which says that if we take everyone's firearms then we'll be ok. That only works for criminals so I fail to see ANY common sense in today's logic.

I'm proud of your people for this. In Poland we have elected PiS the second time, after they have joined the Church and State together and made our student's lives hell with their education reform, or deform should I say. Now they opened schools when cases were on the rise, boom, we had maybe 200-300 each day beforehand and maybe 10-15 deaths, now we have 10-15k a day and 100-500 deaths a day, which is an improvement since in September and October we had 20-25k cases a day and 500-700 deaths every day. Not to mention that this led to complete overwhelming of our medical system and that abortion is almost completely banned, LGBTQ people live in fear of persecution, and they gave 2 billion to TVP instead of the medical system and the foolish giving away of 500+ led to most families to receive it not working and making kids( There is 500zł a month for a kid now), and that giving away has led to several sectors of public to be underfunded and unable to deal with the pandemic. And believe me, coming from a former socialist country, I tell you. You would not want to live in a socialist country. On top of the irony that the EXACT same amendment (the 14th) was originally proposed as a Reconstruction Amendment to ensure that Black people are treated with full rights as persons after the Civil War. When Southern states' objections to ratify were unsuccessful, corporate lawyers flooded the dockets of the Supreme Court to bring several cases to repurpose that amendment for use on corporations. That meant the court then only had time to hear the corporate cases, which far outnumbered the cases brought by formerly enslaved people. I think the joke at 14:00 is a reference to that.

      @@bobleglob162 I agree that opportunity to move up In the income ladder is important. Here In Finland we have that and we have social democracy. • @Shirahago
      @Shirahago 3 роки тому +2

      @Markus Müller Switzerland has a number of conditions to be met before you can be a Swiss citizen. It's not easy and it shouldn't be. You need to have lived here for several years depending on your permit, successfully finish a test with questions about the country, know at least one of our languages well enough, and so on. Living conditions are very expensive but income is also significantly higher than in other countries. It's not that simple to just 1:1 copy the index to other countries.
      As for your xenophobic claim, Switzerland undeniably has issues - like any other country. Our largest party 'Schweizerische Volkspartei' (SVP) likes to pour oil into the fire. The world as a whole has become more intolerant due to the rise of people like Trump, Orban, Erdogan, Lukashenko, Putin, you name it. Compared to the US for example that has a systemic racism problem or countries where you have to fear prosecution for being homosexual etc. we are one of the more tolerant and open-minded countries.
      TLDR: Yes, Switzerland has issues but we are addressing them and hopefully improve upon the situation. While there certainly are xenophobic elements, the vast majority of citizens is not and citizenship is available even if you are not very wealthy or very educated.
