Jean Fouquet (b. 1420, Tours, France + d. 1480, Tours, France) was the famous painter of France during the Early Renaissance era.
Little is known about Fouquet's life. In the old city of Tours, located on the banks of the Loire, Jean Fouquet was born, the illegitimate son of a priest. It is known that he studied painting in Paris or in Nantes in a miniature workshop. He visited Rome between the years 1445 - 1447, in this city he painted the portrait of Pope Eugene IV, on which occasion he excited his contemporaries who said that "in the painting, the pope looked as if he were alive"
