Taxila, (a city which preserved in its lap the memories and ancient remains from the 6th century BC to the 5th century AD) has been inscribed in1980 upon the world heritage list of the convention concerning the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage.
These ancient remain was found in a result of Archaeological excavations under the supervision of sir john Marshall, Director General of the Archaeological Survey of British India in 1913-1934.
As a result of Archaeological excavations under the supervision of sir john Marshall ,The three cities and three stupas and monasteries discovered are Bharmound, Sirkap, Sirsukh, Dharmarajika, Julian and Mohra Murado.
The inclusion in the World Heritage List not only confirms the exceptional universal value of Taxila's historical remains, but also guarantees their permanent preservation.
