    quick tip, oil drains a lot easier if you remove the oil cap or loosen the oil filter first

    DO NOT tighten the fumoto valve by outer hex fitting, tighten using the inner one. Outer hex is for the actual hose fitting and strips super easily. Ask me how I know.

    • @berengerchristy6256
      @berengerchristy6256 7 років тому +1

      how do you know? I'm holding mine in my hand and only see one spot where I could tighten it

    • @Synthwave89
      @Synthwave89 6 років тому +3

      You tighten it using a crescent wrench on the body of the valve, it is flat parallel on both sides and can take the torque.

    Fumoto drain valve is definitely a game changer. No tools needed for an oil change!

    I'm late, i know but read these advices before doing a oil change on your 86/brz.
    Start your car, heat up your oil (2-3min). The oil should be warm enough to not burn yourself while changing your oil so let cool the car a little bit. This will dissolve deposits and particules in suspension in your oil.
    And after changing your oil and before turn on the engine there is a way to cranking it without starting (and let run the engine without oil). Be sure the car is in neutral, Fully press and hold the accelerator pedal to signal the ECU not to inject fuel and turn on and let the engine crank. And as i already see in comments, don't forget to top up your oil !
    Now you are ready to go !

    0w-20 is used for best fuel economy, not for extreme condition or high RPM. Will you carry other weights of oil for those of use who prefer a bit more protection over fuel economy? Such as 0w-30, 5w-30, or 0w-40 for boosted applications.

    • @Sn1pest3r
      @Sn1pest3r 4 роки тому +4

      EXACTLY! Putting 0w20 in a car made for spirited driving and track use is just gonna wear out the engine prematurely. 5w30 or even 5w40 is recommended, especially for hot weather.

    I followed this advice years ago and now it's costing me. I got through maybe 4 to 5 oil changes before an impact took out my oil pan. The skids plate will flex and allow the valve to get hit. To it's credit the valve survived impact... but the threads on the oil pan.... Fubar

    update 05/2019: the SX series valve is not a good fit for our twins due to the angled oil pan hole. just get the one on this video and don't torque on the hex head. Get model F108S for hex head or F108 (no hex head and no nipple for hose).
    Right from the fumoto manual for F-series valves:
    "Torque: Tighten the valve with a crescent wrench on the body of the valve* an additional 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Do not over tighten.
    *Do not use a wrench on the hex head if present "
    Great video, just do not wrench on the hex head like they did it here or you will mess up the valve. The new SX series don't have this problem and look much better. Size for the twins is 16mm diameter, 1.5 thread pitch. Model F108SX M16-1.5 SX series drain valve. Nipple dimension 3/8" if you want any accessories for it. Gonna install one as soon as break-in oil change is due.

    When restarting the engine after oil change, push the accelerator pedal flat to the floor - the engine will not fire, as this activates 'clear flood mode', turning off the injectors - let the starter motor turn the engine over for a few seconds. This turns over the engine at much lower rpm that starting up and running normally, avoiding any unnecessary wear on initial startup at a time when the engine is somewhat oil-starved due to removal of the old oil and installation of the new - empty - oil filter.

      Yea it will be just fine. Just run a high quality oil with a high quality filter. Check it every fill up and change it every 5000 miles. Oil is cheap engines are expensive.

    Good video very informative but I stick with mobile one and you don't have to let the car warm up you can just hold it at about 2000 RPM for 10 seconds and all the oil will be in the engine block so you can get a proper reading on the dipstick but still great video man

      There's a lot to consider when wanting to change oil weight. When in doubt stick with OE recommendations, but if you want to explore other options there are some things to consider. You'll want to think about the climate you drive in most frequently and how the car is primarily used. Then we recommend getting an oil pressure gauge so you can monitor and ensure you don't have any spikes or drops.

    I have a 2016 Scion FRS and am trying to get my oil changed on it but the 14mm bolt is rounded off. My husband went ahead and bought a 17mm (as recommended by nearly every auto parts store here). Is it going to fit or do we need to buy a 14mm?

    • @brianeighties4481
      @brianeighties4481 2 роки тому

      If the thread pattern is the same and it is the same size bolt then yes. The head size is of little importance 14mm vs 17mm. Personally I’d go to the dealership and buy the real deal drain plug.
