    Ingredients:
    Red chili - 1/2 cup
    Coriander seeds - 1/2 cup
    Toor dal - 1/2 cup
    Pepper - 1/4 cup
    Cumin seeds - 1/4 cup
    Curry leaves - few bunches

    i tried this recipe and the taste came out superb.....i also used this podi in various variety rice preparations and it came out really good. this can be used in any recipe ...thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe. BTW i tried the proportions that your mom used. really wonderful....

    Well explained aunty, usually when ever I go to India, will ask my mom to make Rasam powder for a whole year,will bring that and use. After listening to ur detailed explanation, decided to start making from home itself.. Thanks from Canada

    Very nice mami n thanks. One small suggestion, a trick from my mother in law. Instead of frying all the ingredients, keep them in the freezer for 1 hour and then put them in the mixer jar. It comes out very well. This trick is very useful for winter season...

    Wow. This is the first time I saw your video. Suggest you to add english subtitles as I could notice the lady giving out pretty much information during the process. I am a die hard fan of South Indian cuisine. They all have some science behind it. It's never random. Thank you.

    India la irunthu Amma kudutha rasapodi ghaali...nalaiku rasam pannarthuku thakidathathom nu browse panninde vathaaaa....ungaloda podi vasanai yennai irzhuthuduthu...hahahah.... seriously,I made the podi and couldn't resist the aroma so prepared rasam... Divine taste Mami...my neighbor is an Asian American and he has now started watching ur video for receipies.

    we, Iyengars use the term "sathuamudhu" for "rasam". It is most certainly make rice an amudham . Mrs. Iyer. wonderful presentation.

    Please subtitle this!! For those of us who love rasam, and many of us who like the manner of her telling the recipe ☺️ the grounds for doing something in a particular way etc. Please make it accessible to everyone! Not just Tamilians

      Ingredients are @ 1:14 She uses different ratios than the traditional version, which used to be 1 to 1 of all the main 5 ingredients. She adjusted it so that it's 1 part toor daal, 1 part coriander seeds ("malli" as she says), dried red chilies, and then 1/2 part cumin seed (jeeragam) and 1/2 part black peppercorns (milagu). But back in the day, you would put a scant few spoons of the powder when making rasam.
      Long story short, you want to grind the powder down, but not to absolute fine powder. You want a bit of texture. Ideally, you'd dry out the spices in the sun, but they're in Canada, and don't have the sun. So stove roasting it shall be. Don't go all the way dark brown; just roast it till it'll grind in the grinder.
      If you add curry leaves, dry roast it as well. Barring that, put the leaves on a plate, and nuke it in the microwave for a bit.
      To get the proper flavour, don't do like they do in india, and grind a few KG of each thing to make massive quantities of rasam powder. Use these smaller quantities, and grind more frequently, so that the flavour of the rasam tastes proper good, and make more as needed. When you grind it down, go for the texture of sooji. e
