The comparison between your remake and the original you used here is very interesting. I think i now prefer the clarity of your remake. This is very interesting for me because i think this is a question of hardware vs software, and how this has affected the sound we become use to. I use to be a big advocate for hardware and i could hear new producers using software and to me it sounded weak and small compared to the sounds of Justice etc. I know they used software, but their work was either mixed or mastered or both, with high end hardware. I think my mind has changed a bit, but i never want to lose sight of what hardware can do in terms of soundstage and presentation.
We can hear the difference in your comparison, theirs sounds more glued, a wider soundstage (despite the ovious extreme panning), and there is something more thunderous about the low end. But then yours maintains definition and clarity which i think can enhance the groove and elements within the mix. Perhaps a marriage of both hw and sw, when knowing how to use the strengths of both, is something i will maintain.
Anyway i subbed, great work and subjects chosen, gonna spend some time going through your videos. Cheers !
Thanks you for sharing your opinion with this very detailled message ! I don't know if it's a question of hardware or not (because i'm sure that at the time of their first album Cross, the group had only a few amount of software gears, and produced everything on cubase 3, logic and garage band refering to their MIX WITH THE MASTERS QnA) , i think it's more about productions techniques and, obviously, how justice are using compression. At the time when i made this remake, i had a very small knowledge about what make the sound of justice, but now, with a bit more of experience, i had reproduced very well some sounds from SebastiAn and Justice (especially drum sounds) just with software. I'll do more remake of justice in the future

Merci beaucoup mec, ca fait plaisir d'avoir des retours positifs comme le tiens. Si tu parle de la qualité du rendu audio, le son est très clair et "boosté" a cause de la tonne de compression qu'il y a sur chaque instrument. Justice a vraiment ce style de son là, hyper compressé, du coup j'ai essayé d'y répliquer avec les compresseurs de base d'ableton et OTT, un compresseur en VST gratos que tu peut choper sur splice.com notamment. j'espère avoir répondu a ta question

Why do you use the gate at the snares?
It's on the DMX bass drum sound too. It's beacause there's a lot of compression on the drums, it create a lot of white noise after it. so I use the gate to cut the noise
