You gave me an idea. A world where rivers flow uphill, but still hug the earth, from the ocean to highland lakes where they built up
Around the lakes the weather is super tempestuous and often it "rains" as in the clouds gather, lightning flashes, the winds pick up, and water falls upwards in droplets out of the lake
some small villages by the lakes would be cool
then the rain settles into the cloudbanks, which drift out to sea and begin to gently sink, spreading out and dissipating when they hit the surface

This and your Mountains video gave me an idea: So, you talked about how a large mountain range can separate different villages, towns, kingdoms, etc. In my continent, there just so happens to be a huge line of water separating cities that has both a downhill flow and the path of least restistance, creating a near impossible to cross river almost 25 miles wide, 500 miles long, and reaches a rapid speed of almost 70 mph, making trade and communication difficult, yet allowing much vegetation to grow in the very fertile soil surrounding it, making a great home to many woodland creatures, including but not limited to: forest gnomes, hill dwarves, hill giants, dryads, blights, owlbears, pixies, pseudodragons, and more.

    Great video.
I'd like to tell you about another time when the river can split besides Delta.
I picked it up looking at a very detailed map of the rivers of South Morocco.
If rainfall is only seasonal(in the case of Morocco usually it rains during winter but not much for the rest of the year-so it rains a lot in a short amount of time)
and there is little vegetation cover upon mountains(the Anti-Atlas in this case)
rainfall will come away in floods and will take lots of soil with it.
Hence smaller rivers going to bigger river Draa often split because of how much soil they take away from the mountains
-the sediments over time build up as in river delta-usually it is just one big deposit in the middle, instead of several. It is actually pretty common in that area.

The wavy line thing looked a lot better than I expected. I'll have to try that. I just do a mostly continuous, occasionally broken line around the coast, like a wave coming into the shore. It's very simple but my maps tend to be more functional. As for rivers, the best thing to do there is look at real rivers on a physical map, particularly Europe but they vary the world over. The Amazon is huge, with tons of tributaries. The Nile is very long and mostly straight, with few tributaries. There are rivers that almost flow in a circle because they go all the way around a raised area of land. The one thing I see on several fantasy maps which I think doesn't look right is a river that flows from one set of mountains to another and somehow passes through the mountains. That is not likely to happen, since the water would flow sideways around the mountains. It's possible if you have a big escarpment, where the mountains are actually lower than the approaching terrain - but that's a very fantastic feature. One general rule for rivers is that they tend to be straighter when the ground is steeper, and if they have to go around something they take the most direct route, staying quite close to the obstruction. In flat areas rivers can get very twisty, and if they have to go around an obstruction they usually stay further away (since even a slight increase in height will cause them to turn) and can take a very wide and erratic route.

I find that working with a process of drawing and scanning works really well. Every time you have drawn a "layer", scan it. This way you can always erase small sections, like sections for writing names as Nate does. You never come to a point where you regret things that can't be undone or fixed. You can also try out different styles of mountains, forests, etc, before settling for your final map. The layer function in graphic programs is pure magic.

Something you may want to occasionally add is non-standard bodies of water like salt lakes where water flows in but not out because the lake is surrounded by highlands (Caspian, Dead Sea, Great Salt Lake, etc...) These are usually below sea level and are super saline. When they dry out they leave salt pans like Salar de Uyuni. Another interesting phenomenon is rivers like the Okavango in Africa that flows out of the rainforest to the north and into the Kalahari desert. It is one of the few rivers that never make it to the sea as it simply evaporates. These are simple explanations of very complex systems, but little things like that can really make a map more realistic.
    Great rap, BTW!!
