    The Maestro was gifted with the ability to sing softly/piano and fill a concert hall. This is amply displayed at the end of this piece. I believe it's an underrated/under appreciated gift.

      he had many unappreciated gifts, people thought he didn't work hard, but every inch of his form was involved, he said even the button, pointing at his behind......is involved in singing, you can watch the tiny and intense movements in his face, his brows, which by the way, move independently, you can see his collar and tie vibrating. and if you get a view of his diaphragm, it bumps up and down down and vibrates like a diesel engine. a monument to total concentration and perfect control.one thing also he had phenomenal hearing he once heard a harp out of tune in a whole orchestra. his friends said when he was young he could hear a whisper across a noisy room, I believe that would have a great deal to do with his finely tuned sense of mucic, which some conductors didn't go along with but when the opera was presented had to say, he was right it does sound better.

    Luciano is so earnest and dedicated and involved in his singing, so committed to the song, as he always was in his singing, it takes him a few seconds to regain his composure his breath to come back out of the moment, I really admire his dedication to the song, the music, the singing, and then his trademark warmth and generosity to Levine and the audience. He is a real champion.......

    Vaga luna, che inargenti
    queste rive e questi fiori
    ed inspiri agli elementi
    il linguaggio dell'amor;
    testimonio or sei tu sola
    del mio fervido desir,
    ed a lei che m'innamora
    conta i palpiti e i sospir.
    Perfect! I adore Pavarotti, thank you uncjim

    There are songs that are owned by a particular singer and Luciano owns this song. He also owns Core N Grato, Che Gelina Manina (La Bohem), Nessun Dorma, Panis Angelicus, and Torna Sorriento to name a few. No one sings these songs better than this supreme lyric tenor.

    Yes, he had this amazing ability, but it was not a natural gift. It was the result of hard work. In an interview with Jerome Hines the Maestro says that he actually had lots of trouble with singing pianissimo and had to work very hard to develop it. As we can see, that hard work certainly paid off! :)

    Pavarotti's projection was never an issue. All artists are amplified in the major houses in the States and have been for some time. Pavarotti always had wonderful resonance that carried, but the sound was more white than burnished. Most of that is attributable to his frontal placement and his a vowels being a bit nasal. I can say with much confidence/experience that his voice carries.

    Yes, I always doubted his voice wasn't big enough. What did you mean "miked" and "projection"?

  • @lawrence18uk
    @lawrence18uk 3 роки тому

    I prefer his 1985 rendition, but the acoustics here are different, so that may have made him sing brighter.

    @uncjim Sorry, but no he really didn't. Pavarotti had truly astounding passagio control, but his projection was actually quite lacking (despite his resonance), which is why he was very often miked.

    Why they performed this on B major it's a mystery to me... Usually tenors do this song C major which is half step higher than what Pavarotti does here...
