What it all boiled down to when Jared Goff was traded from the Rams. He was scapegoated because Bill Belichick made him look bad in the Super Bowl. He was stripped of every security blanket at his disposal had his confidence crushed and Sean McVay did absolutely nothing to help. It was as spiteful a trade as there has ever been. So proud of Goff man. He is among the last of a dying breed as every team is trying to look more at pure talent as opposed to Quarterback fundamentals. Its Jared Goff that gives guys like Drake Maye and Bo Nix hope seeing him turn the Detroit Lions of all teams around playing at a high level and big games.

Truth is his top two contributors were hurt kupp, and gurley so not only did they not have a running game but his best wr was out. Sure there were other guys but we see how that turned out mcvay wanted to place blame because he’s arrogant and doesn’t admit that his weak scheme needs everything working. Detroit will win a ring now and it’s because of the same qb they threw away and these guys knew what it took to unlock him

After he got this deal he called into the local morning radio show unannounced and answered any questions they had. He seems like a genuine person and the city has fallen in love with him. Rams: We will trade you a really nice young man who is a great character person, great with his teammates, great in his personal life, led us to a Super Bowl for your QB and we'll throw in some extra goodies. One of the now weirdest trades in NFL history where it worked out beautifully for both sides. Rich is correct: we will likely never see another trade like this again

The other not as talked about part of the deal was that they sent Goff’s guaranteed money to Detroit, because they didn’t have the talent at that time to pay. The Rams needed that cap space for free agency and to sign their guys.

I thought he was treated very poorly by the Rams and McVay, but it is a business and choices have to be made. The core of the Lions is now sown up with contract extensions. Goff's contract to me could be a new trend, fit > talent. He's clearly one of the most immobile QBs but he's proving with a top 5 O-Line that he's capable of putting up top 5 QB numbers these past 2 seasons. He's a team 1st guy, a leader and embraced the challenge of coming to a team after being cast aside, took the lumps put in the work and has been a consistent major factor into turning the Detroit Lions into a contender. Brad Holmes and MCDC value guys like Goff and they've shown that they reward guys who play at a high level year over year, and will shed guys who don't produce. This offseason we got the last of the bad money off the books, Goffs deal is cheap for this year and next so the Lions have a legitimate Superbowl window after locking up the 3 most consistent and high effort guys we have on the offensive side of the ball. With the resources we used in the offseason getting DJ Reader, Davis at CB, drafting 2 CBs back to back the roster really only has one question mark which is who will emerge as a starting level DE opposite of Hutch. Expect another playoff appearance and a top 8 offense and top 15 defense next season.

Yeah actually some people "thought that." Outsiders like yourself didn't. Some very good articles in the past have shown that Goff & McV had a "bad marriage." One quoted a former Rams coach who said that McV knew how to tear JG down but not how to build him back up. In 2019 McV became the de facto qb coach and by 2020 Goff had confidence issues. Doing it completely differently, the Lions made a point of building JG's confidence while building the offense around his strengths. Which worked. Some people were aware of all these things as it was happening.

I think in the end the Rams lose big on this deal. They used Goff as a scapegoat when they couldn’t regain their running game. Goff is a play action pass qb which needs a running game and why Detroit uses a 2 back system. I do believe Stafford is the better qb but more at the end of his career who’s already contemplating retirement from year to year. Those 2 1st round picks that turned into multiple picks and Goff is the only reason Detroit is in the position they’re in as fast as they’ve gotten there! As long as Goff has a running game he can win a SB in Detroit.

The Chiefs have the flexibility with Mahomes' contract to move money around which is why they adjusted his salary last season to make him actually the highest paid QB. Average per year does not reflect that. Florio lead a whole crusade on it.

Just goes to show you that in Detroit, all you have to do is win a games, if you get to the final 4, nfc championship game and lose, it’s as if you won the SB. Everyone around your organization is now a genius, your first successful season means you’re a made man. Let’s get the champagne out, light the cigars and spend our asses off. Woooooo! We be Detroit.

No, it means the Detroit Lions finally have a real owner, a real GM, a real HC, a real coaching staff, and real NFL players now. Amazing on how all this happened in three years when the previous twenty were totally devoid of any winning and a clown show.

@@jerrylance4932 This has been building the last three years starting with the draft. RT Penei Sewell, an All-Pro, top 3 in the game, a tone setter, a pillar, he just got extended. Amon-Ra, same draft class, an All-Pro, a top 5 WR, a tone setter, a pillar, he just got extended. DE Aidan Hutchinson, a Pro-Bowler, a tone setter, a pillar, he will get extended after next season.
What you don't seem to realize is GM Brad Holmes three drafts are rock solid. He has always said they are building for the long haul.
Lions draft picks starting or playing big roles on a team that went to the NFC Title game.
NC Brian Branch, LB Derrick Barnes, LB Jack Campbell, RB Jahmyr Gibbs, LB James Houston, DE Aidan Hutchinson, S Kerby Joseph, TE Sam LaPorta, DT Alim McNeil, S Iffy Melifonwu, TE James Mitchell, DL Josh Paschal, DL Levi Onwuzrike, LB Malcolm Rodriguez, T Penei Sewell, OL Colby Sorsdal, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and WR Jameson Williams.
Then add in this year's draft class with CB' Arnold and Rakestraw, trading for CB Carlton Davis, signing CB Amik Robertson, signing NT DJ Reader, signing DE Marcus Davenport in free agency.
Did I mention the Lions have a top 3 Offensive line in the NFL with Decker, Zeitler, Ragnow, and Glasgow to go along with Sewell. They drafted two O-Line players for the future in Manu and Mahogany. Did I mention that Alex Anzalone has played awesome at linebacker. San Fran signed TE Brock Wright to an offer sheet, but Holmes said not so fast, he staying a Lion.
And finally getting Goff extended and paid means the Detroit Lions have the nucleus in place led by our fantastic HC Dan Campbell, to complete for the right to go to the Super Bowl each year for the next five years.
And if Brad Holmes keeps on drafting the players he and MCDC want and they develop, which they have been doing at an All-Pro and Pro-Bowl level, then we're looking at a 10 to 15 year run that kicked off mud-season in 2022.
22-8 since that stretch. The Detroit Lions have the right men in their room so wake up and smell the coffee...Bud!

All the players you mentioned are great players, but I could dissect many rosters and say the same thing. Only thing that matters in the NFL is championships. When Detroit gets that then come back and talk smack. All teams have a real owner, GM, HC, coaching staff, real players, and they’re all trying to win. In three years they have had one good season, and that ended how? Keep watching, you’ll figure it out.

What about Woody Johnson in NY? The Jets are a mess every year with their QB situation and went all in on the Rodgers drama. That's a joke. The Giants are the same, can't get a HC right or the QB right, they cycle people in and out every 2 to 3 years.
A lot of teams are a MESS right now and the Detroit Lions are not one of them. They are doing everything the right way to win a Super Bowl now with this regime.
