Mr. Skull, loved the video, it's the only one on the entire Internet that I found showing the internal workings of this mechanism. After opening my gear box up, I found a few things to update your video. 1st, the piece you though broke off of your torsion spring was actually the spring which pushes the door latch plunger out. The torsion spring for the lever return is asymmetrical, both arms coming off it are identical. One arm returns the latch handle from the down position and the other from the up. There is an anchor post built into the top plate of the gear box. After searching high and low to find a torsion spring replacement I had to make my own! I am NOT a spring maker but I was able to find .074" music wire aka - stuff springs are made from at the local Ace, $2! Then, I don't have a metal lathe, formed it around a 1/2 copper pipe, finally bending the arms with care on a bench vise. 3 cuts and a blood blister later, I put it all back together and it works, mostly. If any of your views are skilled in making a spring I would love to buy one from them to replace my mediocre one. Thanks for posting this. I have this same issue. Nearly had a stroke learning Anderson's $200 fix. I wish you took some measurements of that spring. The internet is great a finding suppliers for odd stuff. My repair will have to wait for warmer weather.

How do I open door if deadbolt is engaged and won't release ?

What size drill did you use to drill out the rivets?
