    This helped me a lot! My problem is the throat sound doing staccato and I think this was a really good step forward

    Thanks, that was helpful...the bit about breathing in and finding the cold spot and then aiming it further back. I will remember that.

      Great that it was helpful Leslie. Good luck with your breathing :) Jane

    my kid learning flute: literally sings into the damn thing when repeatedly failing to make a proper sound.

      😂 Haha! That's funny! Hopefully your kid will be able to make a proper sound soon!

    I used to do this years ago. Now I don't do it at all.... but I went away from flute, played trumpet quite a bit, and finally got to the point of having a nice resonant sound on trumpet, now back to the flute and for some reason this problem hasn't popped up, thank goodness!

    I had a teacher in college who used to get really offended if anyone yawned in her class. The trouble is, my class with her was in the afternoon, I'd have been tired, and afternoons are warm in Hawaii where I was. It was really hard not to yawn. And she'd threaten to give students a lower grade for yawning, so this was serious. I learned to yawn with my mouth closed, if that makes sense. I later learned I'd learned a useful skill (about the only good thing that came from that class) and I try to make sure to do this open throat feeling when playing.

      Glad to hear college was useful in learning yawning skills! 😂 That's awesome you can apply that skill to your flute though! Woohoo! 😀

    I was
    Told by a teacher that one way to get rid of this noise (I have it dreadfully) is to deliberately do it for a bit and then play without doing it. Strangely, it does help. I do find I only do it if I’m struggling with what I’m playing

      Jethro Tull deliberately did it when playing

    • @JaneFluteSchool
      @JaneFluteSchool  4 роки тому

      Anna - yes that's right! If you can do something deliberately (like your throat noise), it makes you more aware of it, and easier to stop. Good on you.

    • @JaneFluteSchool
      @JaneFluteSchool  4 роки тому

      Yes, the voice noises that you've been making is your vocal cords activating - which is basically talking/singing. Ian, in Jethro Tull, deliberately sings when he plays!

      Yes, the only time I can sound like a musician- I “sing” like Jethro Tull

    I need an answer for my question...
    Missing screwss on flute will it affect the sound of it?

    • @JaneFluteSchool
      @JaneFluteSchool  3 роки тому

      Hi AG - yes it will definitely affect the sound of your flute because missing screws will alter how the mechanism works. See if you can take your flute to a repairer and have them replace the screws for you!

    This has never happened to me! I’m actually trying to hum (the note and then change fingering to another note and not change the hummed note!) while playing a note...I can’t get my lips to not buzz, it actually tickles. I’m not sure if it’s possible to get a clean note doing this. Anyway!

    • @JaneFluteSchool

      Hi Robert! Oh I find that so hard to stay singing the same note while changing note on the flute!! It's certainly possible - just not my specialty haha!

    My voice only comes thru stacatto when i play with vibration if that makes sense. My habit is to vibrate from singing. Is it the same cure for this?

    • @JaneFluteSchool
      @JaneFluteSchool  2 роки тому

      Oh my gosh, yes Val, there is totally a cure. There's a whole module inside The Flute Academy (www.flute.school/academy if you want to read about it) dedicated to identifying and removing tension in your body. The throat noises come from tension in your throat, and you definitely can relax your throat to help, but the tension in your throat is normally caused by tension in other parts of your body that is then flowing through to your throat and causing the noises that you hear. Try noticing if you get sore (or particularly tired) in other parts of your body when you play and it will give you a bit of a clue. Good luck!

    My problem is that when I’m blowing my notes come out different. I think my reason could be having a dry throat while blowing/playing

    • @JaneFluteSchool
      @JaneFluteSchool  2 роки тому +1

      Hey UniP! Normally having a dry throat doesn't affect the sounds of the notes as much as you describe. Try adjustment your embouchure to help the notes become clearer too. You can do this free mini course if you like! www.flute.school/free

      This will help me cause I am still a beginner and I am a left handed player. The worst part is in only five days I have to play at my first concert
