I was a train driver for over 20 years, nothing makes a bad day on the rail better, by putting a smile on a kids face, with a musical horn show! Even if their eardrums disagree🤣👍😎🇦🇺
Don't know much about trains....but, I do know how it feels to have kids arm pump me to blow the air horns on my truck! And watch em grin really big as they pass!
The other day we were watching the local CSX train work outside of Winder, GA and the engineer noticed we were riding along and watching. Saw my 2 year old in her car seat, waved at her and blew the horn a few times. Made all of our day. Those little extra steps are awesome, and I'm 34 lol
@@shabbymaverick7975 absolutely! Our little girl had to tell everyone the train blew the horn for her and waved at her. She loved it. I did too.... I'm a 34 year old train fanatic.
I'm a father, too. I see that grandfather holding his grandson watching the train go by, and I know damned well he's thinking: "I've got to tell that boy to slow down! He's driving that train like a maniac! What the hell is the matter with that kid !? ha ha ha We're all alike.
I never run a train but drove a truck 38 years and everytime a kid would show the honk your horn sign I would do it and to see them jump around made me happy! I miss those days
I often used to go with my dad ( a lorry driver in the UK ) on trips with him. Totally loved waving back to the kids that made the 'honk' sign. You could see it on their faces the delight it gave them :-)
I'm right there with ya little man. To me, there is nothing sweeter than rhythm of a train. The music it sends out in the middle of the night, from the silence, is Heaven to my ears.
I drive electric units in Auckland, New Zealand. I always make sure to give a wave and a toot when I see people waving. Sometimes I’m lucky to see their reaction. I think it makes both of our days.
@@TamsPlace Your welcome. One instructor I had during driver training said we should always wave. It might entice young kids to join the rail industry. One day at Glen Eden station in Auckland, I saw a mum and her daughter, who I would say was about 6, obviously waiting for my train and for her dad to get off the train. I waved to them as I was stopping. Her face lit up with a tremendous smile and I heard her say “he waved”. You can’t buy moments like that.
This reminded me of my childhood...I would even got up at 5.00am in the darkness, walked 2 miles to the train station, just to see those majestic locomotives puffed their way in and out among the colourful signal lights.
the grandad giving the grandson a lifetime of survival knowledge in just an instant.... powerful stuff... thanks for the upload... greetings from tasmania
1:18 The glow in that little toddler's eye was brighter than the light on the train!! Grandpa, thank you for bringing another promising member to the railfanning club...Welcome buddy.
This makes my heart leap with happy memories. I'm 79 and my grandpa worked for railroad. We used to go down to the train yards to see the black locomotives come in. He lived on a farm with trains going under a big wooden bridge by his front drive. We as children would stand on the bridge and trains would go under us chugging and blowing that steam whistle. These children must feel that same thrill when the trains go by...especially proud that daddy is conductor,/ engineer. I love it!! 🚂💕

Don't know why trains are so fascinating at that age, I still remember the very first time I walked between the tracks and touched one of the track, it felt like I've achieved something significant, lol.
This video brings me to tears because this is just what my Grandfather did with me. He would park his car at the main crossing in downtown Geneva , Ohio and for what seemed like hours I would watch these trains go by blowing their horns as this little 6 year old kid watches in sheer joy. I'm 61 now and will never forget those beautiful memories.
My brother and I got to see the inside of a caboose as the train was dropping off cars at the grain elevator. This was over 60 years ago, but still a memory that has not faded.
