ABOUT US
Hi y’all! We’re Adam, Kathryn, and Kona, an adventurous married couple (+ pup!) living on the road in our self-converted sprinter van! You can often find us driving all around the US and Canada, scoping out the best coffee shops, eating tacos and ice cream (we're a 5+ taco and 2+ scoop household), and enjoying nature.
We created Adventures of A+K to help busy, budget conscious, and adventurous travelers maximize their vacation time and money wherever they go through detailed travel guides, vlogs, and resources. Our goal: to help you spend less time (and stress!) planning your trip and more time enjoying it!
We will be sharing 1-2 travel vlogs a week, so please SUBSCRIBE to follow along on our adventures! :)
Note: We’ve linked a handful of items so you can see exactly which products we take with us. Full disclosure--if you click on these links and make a purchase, we get a small commission at no extra cost to you. Safety is our #1 priority and we want to stress that this adventure, and all future adventures, will be done responsibly and with the health of others in mind. Here are the steps we are taking everyday, including in these videos:
😷Masks and face coverings. We wear these anytime we are near others outside and especially indoors. If we don’t have a mask on in a video, it’s 99% because there was no one around.
⏰ Exploring early. We normally start at sunrise anyway because of less crowds, but especially so with COVID. We have been starting our days before sunlight so we can limit our interactions.
🧼 Washing and sanitizing our hands, especially after touching anything outside of the van.
🚐 Being in the van 95% of the time when we’re not filming. The adventures we share are a small sliver of our lives. We are staying in the van all day everyday when working and the only time we leave is to do laundry, get gas, or go to the store.
6️⃣ Keeping our distance. We are trying to stay at least 6 ft from others, which truthfully isn’t always possible (and then we make sure we cover our face).
Now you two are about 5 hours away from me. I'm in eastern Pennsylvania. Won't find slaw on much up here either. My Mary Kay lady lives around where you were in this video. She used to live up here. Those biscuit sandwiches looked amazing!
Oh nice!!! We are excited to explore more of PA next year!
Yann's just passed away.
WV is known for a few things, 1: mountain scenary, 2: pepperoni rolls and 3: friendliest folk in the country
Heck, before we moved we never really locked our doors in the day at all, till 1 day when a strang guy moved in and had a different accent, a while later when my mom and dad left, the door was POUNDING, I thought it was mom and dad, but I didnt here any key rattling, then next morning my bike, was gone, it was stolen
@@JamieAllen1977 did his daughter take it over? I stop there whenever I pass through or work there, everytime....
Shoutout to my fellow west Virginians in the comment section lol
Charleston here. ,,, lets gooooo mountaineers!!
Over here in Teays Valley!
Lived in Huntington until 2005. In Alaska now
Barboursville here
Clarksburg Here
Being from this area I think you guys did it justice as outsiders! You didn’t make any jokes about stereotypes. There are obviously unhealthy traditions here, and I appreciate that you guys didn’t talk down about.
Of course! There are good and bad stereotypes about every place, but we choose to see the positive in every place we visit and had the BEST time in WV!
YAS
@@AdventuresofAplusK thank you for that!
They provided context also. A lotta WV food is the result of tough times and tough work. Whether mining or poverty, the people make do with what they've got. It might not be the healthiest but it'll keep ya alive.
Our favorite part of the food was learning why it became so popular and the history behind it. It's food with a story, which makes it really interesting to us.
I am from west Virginia.
This is accurate.
Nice, glad we got it right!
I'm from, WV too. they missed the Pizza Place in Parkersburg, WV. THAT is the stuff!!
Unfortunately our stomachs and wallets can only do so much 😉
Woah this comment blew up way more than I expected
Same very true.
We just moved to West Virginia last year. Best move we’ve ever made! And we have lived in many different states.
That is awesome!!!
Welcome to our beautiful state! 💙💛
The Tudor biscuits are made fresh in house.
We could tell! They were legit!
I know.i live here
The one on weirton is...meh
LOL I walked by Hershel Craigo
Tudor's biscuits location down around Charleston and Huntington WV don't offer the biscuit they purchased. My favorite is the Thundering Herd .
I grew up in St. Albans (southern portion of WV), and Tudor’s is part of my blood stream. When I come home to visit, I end up getting Tudor’s every morning. That one in Morgantown is a newer restaurant. The one I grew up with is crusty and greasy... which adds to the character & flavor. Welcome to WV. I love the mountains.
Hahaha love it!!! If we lived in WV it would become part of Adam’s blood stream as well 🤣 What is your favorite thing to get there?
Ayyyy a fellow citizen of WV
When I visit family in Point Pleasant WV, I time my drive to get there while Tudors is still open since they close early. I get my welcome back meal before I get to the house, because Mamaw likes to cook for me when I’m there and there won’t be any going out for food, except the Mexican food place near the River front, she only gets to go there when I visit. Sadly due to C-19 I didn’t get to go in July 2020, fingers crossed I can go this year.
St. Albans resident here too! And yes, Tudors is a must. Give yourself plenty of time to wait in line to get breakfast there before going to work, but it’s so worth it!!
@@jester6970 SAHS class of 74 here. Tudors, Ginos, and Lorobi's.
Glad you enjoyed my home state. I’m from the wheeling area of West Virginia and I always enjoy seeing someone appreciate our state. I feel like we’re pretty underrated by people.
Definitely underrated! We loved WV!
Ayyyy another fellow citizen of WV
IKR , my husbands family lives in Maryland.. and I get all the eve jokes. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.. it’s beautiful.. ntm we are firm second amendment supporters. I would not want to live where I can’t protect myself and family from a criminal with a gun.
Thank you. Thank you for not doing the typical jokes and stupid remarks said over and over again about our state. The last one I clicked on I thought was going to be a good first interaction entering WV instead they didn't even get out of the car and had the same tired tropes. Much love and respect to you both. I'm now subscribed with all notifications on. I know this was from 2 years ago but being grateful someone gave us a real chance will never end. Cheers to you! PS it's pronounced yans not like yawns. Bob Huggins, he's in the hall of fame now finally.
We think WV is super underrated and beautiful! We had a great time there and everyone is always really friendly! We love traveling and appreciating places for what they offer. Thank you for your kind comment! It means a lot to us!
Also, it's tough to beat Tudor's! I (Adam) always rave about that place!
I live in Fairmont. I’m so glad you did this series. Mr. Yann just passed away. I’m certain that his recipe and legacy are here to stay. You probably met him. Thanks for the giving Fairmont and West Virginia our flowers while we’re here...
We are so glad we chose to go to Yann's! We hope his legacy can continue!
fairmont gang i’m on east side
4:55 You can see his arms as he makes the hotdogs
So sorry to hear about your loss. I am sure his legacy will live on 🙏 ♥
Make your way to South Charleston and order some hot dogs at Spring Hill Bakery.
We headed down that way, but no hot dogs there. Next time!
@@AdventuresofAplusK they run out quick go when they open
Spring Hill Bakery's pastries are ah-maze-ing. And the Indian Mound in South Charleston is a cool place to wander.
Oh my heart ❤ When my husband and I first moved in together, we moved to Fairmont. After a while we moved for Morgantown for a few years, but in early 2017 we made our way back to Fairmont. It was our home where we lived for 3 years, where our daughter took her first steps and our son met his best friends. We moved during the shutdowns last spring and have been terribly homesick ever since. The dock you were sitting on at Palatine Park is directly across the river from the home we lived in.
And the Tudor's you stopped at was just up the road from the house we lived at in Star City. I used to stop for breakfast every few weeks with my son before taking him to daycare, while I was pregnant with my daughter. A Little Tator was the first food I asked for in the hospital after having her.
This video made me so incredibly happy 🥰
Your comment made us so incredibly happy, thank you! We are very glad we could help you relive your time there and see some spots that meant a lot to you! ❤️❤️
Just found your channel a couple of weeks ago and so glad I did. Love my Yann Dogs, Country Club Bakery Pepperoni Rolls and Tudor's Biscut World. College was full of Yann dogs. And when I'm visiting my home state, there's always a visit to Biscuit World. Beauty abounds in the Mountain State and I hope you get to experience it all. Check out Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods, and Seneca Rock as they're the pride of the state. And of course there is the New River Gorge area plus many historic areas such as Harper's Ferry and Jackson's Mill. Travel the country roads and enjoy the peaceful, rolling mountains. Keep up the great work! Mountaineer Proud!
Aw yay! So glad you found us and awesome timing that we are now in your home state! We are absolutely loving it so far! The mountains, country roads, food, and history are all amazing. We are definitely visiting the majority of those spots you mentioned and cannot wait to share 🙌
If you're ever in Charleston, West Virginia be sure to check out Ellen's Ice Cream on Capitol Street. You can also get great food and entertainment when Live on the Levee is in season ( Fridays over the summer starting at around 6:30).
We went there during our trip! SO good!
No way Austin's Ice Cream is way better
Love Ellens!
This is so amazing!! Pepperoni Rolls are such an iconic Central Appalachian food! If you all make your way through Kentucky, you should try to check out the Red River Gorge Area!!
We just heard about this area the other day and wow it looks gorgeous! 😍
The thundering herd from Tudors is the bomb diggity!
We miss Tudors!
I was born and raised in Bluefield, WV, on the Southern border of Virginia and West Virginia. I went to college at West Virginia University (WVU) in Morgantown, WV, about 4 hours drive north of my hometown.
I always thought the Dairy Queen in my hometown made the best Slaw Dog. The minor league baseball stadium for Bowen Field, home of the Bluefield Blue Jays, makes a great Slaw Dog too. Love WV Pepperoni Rolls. Also Love Pinto Beans and Cornbread.
If you want to try some true seasonal West Virginia foods, try Ramps (Wild Onions/Garlic) in the Spring and Pawpaws in the Fall. Both of these food items need to be foraged in the woods or found in the local Farmer’s Market.
We tried some Pawpaw ice cream in Charleston, WV and LOVED it! Super good! We've heard about ramps in the spring and will have to come back to try it! Pinto beans and cornbread sounds amazing too 😋
I would have to say that the best slaw dogs are at the Dairy Queen across the border !!! Go G Men !!! Cumberland Rd is good though. But the milkshakes at Lynns Drive In are worth the drive back home!
I worked at that Dairy Queen in high school and now I also attend WVU! I love how everyone in southern wv knows about the Cumberland Rd DQ :)
If ever in WV again, in the Charleston area they have some great local and small places but a small biscuit place is called suzys, they only really do breakfast and lunch and are closed by 1 I think but they have even better biscuits than Tudor’s! And also try lolas pizza or Hudson’s pizza, lolas is a little more expensive but well worth it in my opinion.
We really liked the Charleston area! We explored a bit, but didn’t have a chance to eat (besides ice cream haha), so we will have to check it out!
@@AdventuresofAplusK there used to be two suzy's locations, now there is only one. directy across from the mound in south charleston wv. there is a nifty lil asian supermarket there too.
Husson’s Pizza is a must for sure
Suzi’s FTW! 🙌🏼❤️
Great job touring West Virginia my home state.
Thanks so much! We loved it!
I love this! Welcome to West Virginia! I hope you guys enjoy it and be sure to check out the entire New River area!
We are loving it so far! And we cannot wait to make it down there 🙌🏼
Quick tip:
Go in top of a mountain and look town at the country at sun down.its beautiful
WV BABY!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I grew up in St. Albans. Moved away in 1990. I miss West Virginia so much and will always consider it home. Love the pepperoni rolls West Virginia hotdogs and Tudors rules.
West Virginia is such a gorgeous state! We had such a great time there!
Add another West Virginia staple oliverio's peppers and mozzarella cheese amazing on top of any pepperoni roll
Sounds amazing! 😍😍
As someone who was raised here in clarksburg, wv I agree. Oliverios has the best peppers and tomatoes, parkette is also a good family ran restraunt. Also dont forget Tony's icecream and make sure you get the black raspberry flavored.
YES!!!
I'm happy to see something nice about my home state
Your home state is gorgeous!
My grandma was a manager at a Tudors! Next time, get the blueberry pancakes and a biscut and gravy!!!
That is awesome! Hopefully you got free biscuits 😉 Thanks for the tips!
I had pepperoni rolls shipped to me while I was in Iraq. We actually make our own, but we grind the pepperoni sticks. It allows more juice to escape into the bread !
That makes sense and sounds so good! And thank you for your service!
You're in Fairmont, you should have tried Muirele's the best Italian resteraunt ever.
We will try to next time!
I was born and raised in WV honestly, until this video I had 0 IDEA what a WV style hot dog was, or that it even existed
I totally agree! Muriales is AMAZING
They have the best salads ever
Idk about best ever but maybe best in Fairmont lol
Love to see WV getting love. Mr. Yann actually passed away recently, so it’s good you got to experience that!
WV is amazing! Majorly underrated! And we are glad we got to experience it too. Hoping his legacy continues!
Hooray! I'm so happy to have come across your channel. As a lifelong West Virginian I always love seeing the look on people's faces when they try a Tudor's Biscuit--they're soooooo good! We had a pal from Chicago come visit and he was blown away. The next time he came back he wanted Tudor's to be his first stop. Well done y'all!
Adam still raves about it! We didn’t expect it to be that good! 🙌🏼
I hope you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful state! Thank you for portraying us in a positive light!
We had an amazing time, it's so gorgeous and underrated!
Tudor's smacks. The biscuits are legit housemade style and are made daily. The burgers are really good too.
Sooo good!
You have to try ramps if you're interested in West Virginia cuisine. Ramps are usually only available in the spring. Buchannonin WV has a place called The Doughnut Shop, and they sell Ramporroni Rolls in spring. A pepperoni roll with that strong onion/garlic flavor of a ramp.
If we can make it back in the spring sometime we’d love to try ramps!
Tudors of course started small too! It’s so amazing it turned into a chain. Stayed only in WV for so long, and now it’s finally making its way out of the state 😁
It’s exciting to see local spots do well and become popular!
West Virginia
Mountain Mama
Take me Home country roads ♥️
😊🍁
Basically been on repeat since we got here lol!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I know, it's still a beautiful song♥️
I've lived here for a long time and I havent heard that song once
@@MemeDeliveryPrime It's by John Denver and has been around since the early 70s. I don't even listen to country music and know the song.
From WV, love both, but Yann's is AWESOME!!!
Yann's was super good!
Being from WV I'm very glad to see people showing our state in a positive manner. Welcome to WV and if you are ever back our way try to make a stop by The Greenbrier. You guys seem like very nice people and thank you for these videos.
We loved your state! We hope to make it back someday--there is a lot we didn't get to see!
Thank you guys for stopping by West Virginia and I’am happy that you guys enjoyed our cuisines.
It was a great time!
West Virginian here! If you ever come back, I second the suggestion of trying Spring Hill Pastry in South Charleston. The “hot dogs” are an institution! Also, you’ve had Tudor’s, so now you have to try Suzi’s (also in South Charleston). Their biscuits are giant and fluffy. I recommend the bacon egg melt. It is heaven.
Thanks for spending time in the Mountain State! Y’all come back now, ya hear? 😉
Soooo many foods we need to come back and eat! 😋😋😋
Fairmont local here, Yann's is a legendary local spot and getting food from there really did respect to Fairmont
❤️❤️
I just found your channel today, and have enjoyed your videos. For true WV hot dogs, you need to travel south, to Huntington, WV, and try them at Midway Drive In. They are the best around. Another institution in Huntington is Frost Top. Both are amazing, and they both still make their root beer in-house, to compliment the hot dogs. Definitely worth the trip.
We reallyyyy wanted to make it to Huntington and almost drove out of the way to go out there, but couldn't swing it. Definitely will next time though! We love homemade root beer!
Yes, the root beer at both places is awesome!!!
And get a tshirt from Frost Top!
Burger's at Midway are delicious !
Oh yeah or the hillbilly hotdogs off next to River too
Oooh, you are heading to NC! How cool! I'm right here in Winston-Salem. Hope you enjoy your time here. The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful!
We cannot wait to be back in NC! Last time we were by the Blue Ridge Parkway it was snowing and mostly closed, so we are hoping for better luck this time!
You guys should have hit up The Donut Shop in Buckhannon, WV on your way to Blackwater/Dolly Sods. They have an awesome pepperoni roll. The pepperoni is ground up and served up with your choice of cheese. Tudors is just across the road, basically. Good stuff! The donuts are fantastic too.
That sounds sooo good! 🤤
This video touches my heart cause I see a couple happily traveling around enjoying new cultures, respecting local food traditions, heading to nature spots! I like traveling and think that's beautiful you share your adventures! Also I've been reading about West Virginia a lot and planning a roadtrip there.
That means a lot to us! That is what we strive to do here ❤️ West Virginia is a BEAUTIFUL and very underrated state.
Thanks guys Glad you enjoyed the food, there's a lot of history here ,so Hope you guys come back soon. Keep it going Guys
We definitely will be back!
I can't eat gluten or dairy so in vlogs like this I'm always just eating vicariously through y'all. Thanks for sharing the adventures! Can't wait to see everything else West Virginia has to offer.
Technically I can’t eat gluten either but shhhh 🤫🤫🤫 I will say though, after cheating a bit too much lately, I’m feeling pretty crappy, so I think I’ve learned my lesson 😭
West Virginia, take me home country roads (John Denver)! Can’t wait to see where you go next! Will you be stopping at Hillbilly HotDogs in Lesage?
We reallyyyy wanted to and tried to alter our route for it, but couldn't fit it in this time. It looks SO cool and tasty though! And that song has been stuck in our head for a week lol!
Why is that song so popular I havent even heard it once in public
@@AdventuresofAplusK their food is great
I was going to suggest Hillbilly Hot Dog too!! Guy Fieri has been there on Diners, Drive ins & Dives!! They have really good hot dogs!! Also, if y'all are ever back here in WV, you should definitely eat at Pies & Pints!!
We love Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives and wanted to go there so badly! We did go to Pies & Pints though in our New River Gorge video!
Your Hot Dog, Tudors and pepperoni roll video was great. I’m a native West Virginian and when I go to another state I try their specialties. I figure you have already finished your trip through my state. If you return have to come to Beckley, WV and King Tuts drive in. They’re more than burgers dogs and fries. They make their burger buns in house, they bake their own pies, and have one awesome pizza. They also offer plated meals and have specials all the time. People I know that have moved away make King Tuts a must visit. The entire menu is displayed and have a sandwich named the Nightmare. When you’re back in West Virginia must make a visit. Won’t disappoint
That sounds awesome! We will have to check it out next time we are in WV!
hope y’all had a precious time in wv! im from the fairmont area and yan’s is a local legend. rumor has it that every time the fairmont fire dept goes out on a call, the owner of yan’s takes them hotdogs for when they return. and as far as plain pepperoni rolls, country club is the definite spot! but you can go cross town to colasessano’s for a pepperoni roll with cheese and sauce (their pizza is also AMAZING).
hope y’all had a wonderful time! we were certainly happy to have youns!
We loved West Virginia! Such a gorgeous state! I hope that rumor is true, that would be a super cool gesture. And we will 1000% try the pepperoni rolls with cheese and sauce next time.
Der Dog Haus in Parkersburg has my favorite hotdog! JR‘s Donut Castle (Parkersburg/sliced pepperoni) & Tomaro’s Bakery (Clarksburg/stick pepperoni) are the best pepperoni rolls in the state.
Ooo we will have to try those next time! 😋😋
I live right beside Der Dog Haus and was born and raised in clarksburg lol ... love Tomaro’s bakery!!! And Der Dog Haus was where I had my first date with my husband ❤️ best hotdogs for sure!!
The next time you visit Tudor’s you have to order the Mary B! Best biscuit on the menu! I’m from Wayne County, the western most county in West Virginia and we are definitely SLAW DOG people! It was nice seeing highlights from my state! We’ve got some of the best food and best VIEWS!
You have a gorgeous state! And we look forward to trying that biscuit next time!
The Mary B is my favorite
This was really made well! I’m excited to see this channel grow!😊
Thank you! 😄
I’m currently living in Fairmont wish I would’ve known about your channel before this video was up glad you enjoyed your visit!
Ah nice! Wish we could’ve run into ya!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I probably passed you on the road at some point we go to palitine pretty often.
Ah nice! We hung out there a bunch working!
I have not been to West Virginia either, great to share the adventure with you.
We are sooo pumped to share more!
I really enjoyed seeing our hometown being featured in your video. The name Yann's is pronounced like Ann with a Y in front.
The cole slaw on the dogs are not my preference, and I live here. LOL I never tasted Slaw Dogs, until a few yrs back, near Buchannon, WV. I think the Slaw would make each taste different, as the recipe for making it is always a family favorite.
The Pepperoni Roll Capital of the World is how Fairmont WV is sometimes described, and so many different people do make them using different recipes, some with Hot dog sauce and Mozzarella Cheese melted on top, some with Hot Dog Sauce, Hot Peppers in Tomato Sauce, and of course the Mozzarella Cheese all melted together. Just YUMMY is my description of them, no matter what the addition you add to them.
So glad you got to visit our hometown, and enjoyed it too. Come back again, and try out some other places to sink your teeth into. lol
Thank you for the pronunciation help! 🙌🏼 And we definitely agree on the non slaw dogs. All of those variations of pepperoni rolls sound SO good! Such a delicious treat!
A new state to explore ! You both do a wonderful job of showing not only the main attractions of an area but balance it with the food and culture
We have been super excited to share what our next state was! So far we are loving it! And that goose was hilarious and wouldn't leave us alone haha
I am enjoying getting to know you both, and excited to see your channel grow and to follow your experiences.
Thank you so much for following along, we really, really appreciate it! 💗
Great video I laughed out loud when Kathryn got the spice 😂👍👍
Hahahah it got me gooood! 🤣
So awesome that you guys are already in West Virginia. I’m in Southwest Virginia near North Carolina and Tennessee borders. I love hiking the Linville gorge area in North Carolina. Hawksbill and Table Rock are awesome hikes in Linville gorge, if you guys make it over that way. Brevard NC (DuPont State forest) is a great place for waterfalls. In Tennessee, Roan Mountain is a beautiful hike! Hope you have fun!
Thank you soooo much for the tips Melissa! We have Linville Gorge on our list and are so excited to hear that it's as awesome as it looks!
If you go to the north/south carolina area, you should check out the symmes chapel (or called the pretty place 😂). it’s open for public and part of the ymca. the view is gorgeous!!
Oh wow! That view! 😱😱
awesome. you definitely hit the best of WV delicacies ! Yum!
Super carby and meaty and delicious! 😋
Yum! I didn't realize how many iconic WV foods there are, looks delish! Cool video, thanks for sharing :)
We didn’t either! Super fun to eat some of the classics!
As a native West Virginian living in Memphis my mouth watered watching the Tudors portion of the vlog. If you make your way to the New River Gorge area make sure to visit ACE adventures. Also in the town of Fayetteville you HAVE to go to Pies and Pints!!! Ask for the Italian pizza (not on the menu) and I promise you will not be disappointed!! Can’t wait to watch your next adventure in my home state!
Pies and Pints is definitely on our list for while in WV! We can’t wait! 🙌🏼😋
Glad you're here on the East Coast. I've been many places in WV, but never to Fairmont. Looks beautiful! When traveling from WV to NC, check out the Blue Ridge Parkway in VA. Especially this time of year with the fall foliage. I absolutely love living here in the fall. Safe travels!
We absolutely will! We cannot wait! Last time we were in the area the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed, so we are excited to see it!
Pro tip for West Virginians stuck in Texas : Some Kolache places have pizza kolaches and they can tide you over when you can't get pepperoni rolls... As you mentioned, the bread is a little sweeter and definitely not the same but they're pretty good when recently out of the oven... Go early in the morning! I prefer the pepperoni rolls that have a little bit of cheese and sauce to mix with the grease and soaking into the bread, but they're good no matter what way they come really!!!
Oooo solid tip!!!
Ravenswood, WV here. I like my pepperoni rolls with pepper jack cheese baked in them
🤤🤤🤤 sounds incredible!
I'm late, but really hope you enjoyed WV! P.S. United Diary chocolate milk is the best
We loved it! And that was some dang good chocolate milk! 🍫🥛
TRUTH
Great video! We had one of the best trips we've ever taken there. West Virginia is beautiful. We we're saddened to hear about the cancelled New England trip though. We're heading there next week. We've already cancelled it for this summer so we're going ahead. PS- Thanks for the postcard!
That is so awesome to hear! We have loved it so far. Enjoy New England for us! 😍
I grew up in the southern half, mom went through Tudors every morning for coffee and I would get q sweet tea. Pepperoni rolls were big. My dad being from southern wv coal country he was into hot dogs and "footlongs", and of course the slaw was a science. Of course, if you're there in the hills at the right time in the spring there are "Ramps" and we call the critters in the creek "crawdads". And to earn you extra points it's West By God Virginia.
We definitely want to come back in the spring sometime to try ramps!
Great meeting you guys and glad you enjoyed the hotdogs! You're living our dream!!!!!
Thank you so much Doug! Great to meet you too! 😄🙌🏼
I’m from fairmont I always pronounce it yans (not yawns) u gotta get a pepperoni roll from colos or woodys with sauce and cheese
That sounds like a delicious combo!
That’s how I had it. It was purty dang good.
Just what we had on our West Virginia trip! And we may have found family members who own their own pepperoni roll factory. Plus, Tudor’s needs to add “Biscuits as big as your head!” as their branding. Every time we go back, have to have it once. And ruh roh - the sauce! But you missed Fairmont’s most awesome attraction: The mini golf course made of coal mining equipment! The kid had a blast there.
Oh wow, a mini golf course with coal mining equipment?! That sounds SO COOL! Adam is a HUGE Tudor's fan now and is already looking forward to eating it many more times before we leave lol!
I was born and raised in Fairmont. I used to walk down to Country Club Bakery to get fresh pepperoni rolls. I'm not sure when Woody's started putting slaw on their hotdogs but I'm not opposed to it. The original was Sauce, Onion and Mustard as you said. When the Union Lunch was open downtown when I was a kid, that was the best hotdog hands down. You should have definitely ate dinner at Muriale's. Also stopped at Colasessano's for a pizza with pepperoni and sweet peppers. Also a pepperoni roll with sauce, peppers and cheese. It's not like when the original owners use to own it but it's still dang good! I always stop and bring some home when I am on my way through the area. I hope you had a wonderful time in Almost Heaven and it was good to see home.
There are plenty of other places to eat in Fairmont like Wings Ole if it's still there. But I haven't been able to spend much time there for a long time.
We had to ask for the slaw on the hot dog there, since it was hard to find a slaw dog in that part of the state. We have Colasessano’s on our list for next time! Unfortunately we can only eat so much at once 🤣
When you guys come back to Texas be sure to show the viewers what a Chapel Hill Kolache is. I just found you guys on UA-cam today. I think I've watched about 10+ videos today. Great videos. I love that y'all explore everything: hiking, national parks, the cool towns, food, etc...
We love kolaches! We haven’t been to Chappell Hill, but we may have to change that during our next drive to Houston! And thank you so much for the kind words. We try to do a mix of everything as much as we can!
You were in my neck of the woods! I'm about 15 miles from Fairmont. I just found your channel today!
Ah no way! Such a beautiful area!
I don't think people understand how serious the "Slaw Line" is. I was born and raised in Southern West Virginia (moved away a while ago), but I don't particularly care for slaw. Every time we make chili/sauce and do hot dogs and when I don't add slaw, she always says "I don't know where I went wrong in raising you."
Hahahaha we read a bunch of articles about it and it felt like a serious debate!
There's two types of people in the world. People who think slaw goes on hotdogs and those who are wrong.
Amen ma
Love these vlogs!! Food inspo for when we visit
Yay, so glad to hear that! We love when places have some unique items to try 😃
Well, we Always Love a Foodie episode, and you two made us hungry with those hotdogs. Great picknick location too. Back in rural Louisiana we've got a thing similar to those called "Chili-Buns" but maybe not as spicy. But Wow, those Biscuit sandwiches looked intense. We'd need a long hike after that Lol.
Thanks for another fun one, James and Kim
Ooo chili buns sound so good! Hot dogs and chili is one of the best combos! And let’s just say we were extremely sluggish the rest of the day after eating this food 🤣
Welcome to West Virginia even tho I’m late ! I hope you love it as much as we do
Ps they actually make the biscuits fresh daily
We had such a great time! And LOVED Tudor's!
You visited the best place in WV for Pepperoni Rolls and Hot Dogs.
Woo! Glad we picked some good spots!
Just came across your video and had to subscribe. Being from West Virginia seeing where you went was awesome. Thanks for showing this beautiful state off.
You’re so welcome! We had a great time! Thanks for watching 😃
I'm WAAAAAAAAY late to this train, but being born in this state and traveling the world, I can say we try our best in WVa to reinvent the wheel when it comes to food. Most of our families come from around the globe , so it brings our different lives to boil. At our best we show how to be a melting pot, but at our worst we are inward looking. Thank you for honestly "seeing" us.
Good luck in you future!
We loved West Virginia and seeing how y’all’s history has shaped the food was really fun for us!
Sorry you didn't care as much for the Slawdog. Our hometown, Sissonville, WV, is considered the birthplace of the Slawdog. The history behind it is documented at wvhotdogblog.blogspot.com/ They state that during the Great Depression that people looked for available items to toss on their hotdogs. Cabbage was cheap and plentiful so cole slaw was used as a topping at the Star Light Drive-in in Sissonville (just 5 miles north of Charleston). The truckers traveld US 21 north-south from Ohio to the Carolinas and began spreading the request across Appalachia. Check out the blog I posted. There is a special scorecard for a true WV hotdog. Of course the slaw must be "fine cut". LOL
It was less the slaw dog and more just slaw lol! I am not a huge fan of slaw in any form haha. Thank you for sharing the story of it!
You need to see Green Bank wv and Cass railroad.
We will hit up those spots next time. Thank you for the suggestions!
Green Bank is really cool!
Well this was fun!!! Oh my goodness the food looked so good! I’m with you Katherine...not a big fan of slaw but boy do I love me some chocolate milk!!! Thanks for sharing and being the best! Now I need to watch you guys chase waterfalls!!!
Chocolate milk is SO good! I forget how much I love it sometimes! 😋😋
I've moved away from West Virginia since graduating, but i still miss the pepperoni rolls. They're a definite comfort food for me.
Watched this while I was hungry...needless to say it didn’t help! 😂🤤
Hahahaha we are so sorry!
The Smokehouse in Charleston (the Capitol of West Virginia)Has really good food.My fav.is there hamburgers & hot dogs.Good homeade food.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Tudors is the BEST!!!
We loved it!
So glad I stumbled across your channel a couple weeks ago. I'm a travel agent and it's nice to learn all these fun secrets about places i haven't been to yet!
What a fun job! 🙌 We hope that you've done okay through the pandemic, travel is definitely a hard industry to be in during all of this. Thank you so much for watching!
Hillbilly Hotdogs is amazing.
We really wanted to go there!
I used to live about 15 mins from there, it's a cool place but pretty pricey for a hotdog
My favorite hot dogs in WV are at DQ in Princeton and Hinton WV. They use toasted buns and of course, chili, onions and slaw if you like. Not like normal DQ dogs!!!
Oh wow, we would’ve never guessed that DQ had a solid WV hot dog!
That DQ is legendary
Both dairy Queens here in bluefield toast the buns too 😋 best dogs ever!!
If you ever have time in the spring come to West Virginia mountain towns for the annual ramp dinners. The ramp is a leek type plant with a garlic flavor that grow wild. Small towns have dinners and people come from all over the country and line up to enjoy these dinners.
We really want to! We heard about them when planning out the food stops and were bummed we weren’t there at the right time to try them!
Its awesome you guys are living your lifes how u want, alot of people dont have the courage or means to do that.
We are very fortunate and grateful to be able to work and live on the road and experience all of these places!
Now that you’ve eaten...let’s see West Virginia 😀
Lots of WV coming soon!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I really hope so. You’d love this state if you had time to do some exploring.
We posted quite a few videos from the state during our weeks of exploring in the fall. The link to all of them is in this video's description. We definitely loved it!
I said "over YANN-der" right before you did haha. We know nothing about West Virginia - excited to learn!
Hahahaha I am so glad I’m not the only one with punny jokes! 😜
Bee eff effs!
while stationed in Clarksburg as a recruiter, I fell in LOVE with the pepperoni rolls....I ate and ate and ate to my heart's delight !!!!
They are SO good!!!
I weeped when i saw a Woodys hot dog, it's been years. We used to buy them buy the dozen for Friday bingo
I also had a girl friend at the time that worked at the Country club making rolls , used to stop by and watch them make the dough and roll them up. What fun that was. Your presentation was great!
We love West Virginia! Those rolls and hot dogs were a nice treat! Thank you and thanks for watching!
Over "Yon"der 🥰
😜😜
I’m so excited for you guys to eventually make your way to Ohio! I would suggest coming in the summer or fall! I’m going to come up with a list of recommendations to send you guys (and my grandpa’s scotcheroos) 😂😂
Yes!!! Send away! We are hoping to visit late next summer!
I went to high school in WV and graduated from Doddridge County high school in West Union. I remember when I moved there in 1987 and started high school. We had pepperoni rolls for lunch. They were homemade and delicious! I liked the ones that have cheese and a bit of sauce baked in. In Salem there was a sub shop that made pepperoni hoagies that were literally stuffed with pepperoni. Now I want some.☺️They don’t have them in PA.
Cheese and sauce in them sounds sooo 💣💣
Congrats on 30k subscribers!
Thank you Barbara! 🥰
