There’s money intelligent and there’s philosophically intelligent. It’s a bit unfair that we expect everyone to be both. Graham is a very smart guy in his field, but maybe not as much in others. That isn’t necessarily a knock on him, it’s just that some people’s minds are geared a certain way

The Jacobite uprising and the squashing of such absolutely decimated the clans of Scotland, their political setup of and even the language. I grew up Protestant but looking back at history and the infighting between our Christian brothers makes me extremely sad.
I think historians also mark it as the end of true scottish culture. While im sure today's scotsmen are different than their english counterparts and still hold many traditions from their forefathers, the culture in which the scotish clans lived and breathed died with them at the battle of Culloden.

I disagree with Knowles a lot… but his point about not thinking there are aliens is an argument I’ve used a lot and makes total sense.
R.C. Sproul does a real good job of describing "chance". Basically, he says that chance is a term that describes a mathematical construct. It isn't anything. It doesn't have the power to create anything. Therefore, nothing can be created by chance. He describes it better and in more depth. But this is the gist of it.

I have seen one UFO and I agree. My first instinct is that there is human made technology not known to the public. I have heard that it is possible to make a machine with a strong DC current around it capable of moving through the air without friction because it has a field that can displace the air from contact with the surface. Maybe. My second thought is that if it was angelic or demonic it would not be confined to the same laws of physics.
But I am willing to risk ruling out that life formed spontaneously somewhere else and that life visited earth. The chances of life forming by itself are so low that I would not bet on that scenario. Life is nothing short of a miracle and the best explanation for miracles is God, not random chance plus time. The difficulty of getting life by chance is impossibly squared and then squared again a few more times. It can’t be done and that is an understatement.

God does not owe us more evidence for his power other than the gigantic Planet full of amazing creatures on which He has placed us.
He does not owe us more instructions than those that he wrote in the Bible.
He does not owe us more warning than that which is provided by everyone's conscience before we make any moral decision.

A painting is only proof of a painter because we have a past history of knowing that paintings are painted. Same with buildings. If we found explanations of how paintings came about without a painter they would no longer be evidence of a painter. Especially if we started finding evidence that was inconsistent with a painter painting it.

The funny thing is that if intelligent aliens look different from us at all, star trek’s depiction of sentient rational aliens as being basically humans with weird foreheads or funny ears is probably more accurate to reality than most other depictions since they would be made in the image of God. There could be some pretty crazy alien animals out there though.
Wait... the apologists say God is timeless, spaceless, and immaterial. I suppose that the humanoid form could be this being's favorite or something, but that is distinct. It's all pointless speculation, and I don't assume any of it to be the case, or even likely.
If a Deity is making them i don't see why they would look like us. I always interpreted "imagine of God" as being in reference to consciousness and reason. I suspect their biology would be the result of their environment and natural selection.
Vastness of space and chance is not proof of aliens.
Michael, please consider this. Let's imagine for a minute that we're in a pre-media, pre-global travel society. And I ask you the question:
What makes you think that somewhere else on this planet there are ppl that just like us, live in houses?
Well, it would seem reasonable to assume that where YOU live, is not the only place on the planet that humans occupy. And it would be reasonable to assume we're NOT the only ones to build a shelter that protects us from the weather. It would be completely wild to assume that "No! Only my country is populated and the rest of the planet is a barren wasteland."
Do you really think God would be so wasteful to produce a Universe as huge as this just to put humans on a one tiny ball of rock? C'mon now...
So the response i normally hear is that it was to demonstrate his majesty. I don't buy this of course, i dont see how a mostly empty universe with one planet characterized by hundreds of millions of years of animals with the cognitive capacity of a human child tearing each other to shreds, comfused and afraid, is a demonstration of anything good.

Life may not be rare in space, but intelligence may be unique. Intelligence is not required for sucess in the Darwinian process, so there could be lots of space cows, but few creatures with human like intelligence.
Im starting to think at a certain point it may be maladaptive. I dont just mean because it allows the development of nuclear or biological weapons. Some have said that the crazy stuff in the Bible may have actually been the appearances and doings of advanced extraterrestrials. It might also be the explanation for the pyramids of Egypt, and possibly, those of the Mesoamerican civilizations as well (both of which seemed to have an insanely good grasp on the cosmos and cycles therein).
Thats something i like to point out. On the scale of extraordinary claims i dont see why aliens are more extraordinary than gods. We know there is at least one spacefaring and soon (on a cosmic scale) to be interstellar species that has interests in going to other worlds.

Stating that as i am i believe we are still important to god in fact we are his children who he loves and cares about. We are important to god and so are all the worlds without measure inhabited with people like us.

I believe we are special and that we were created by God the Father, but I don’t believe he couldn’t have made other worlds with life and even His children like us that are equally special.
If you believe in Evolution, then we evolved randomly here and other life could evolve randomly somewhere else. It just comes down to a game of dice played over and over on every planet in the universe and, if you think there are enough rolls, you may think the game was won more than once. However, if you believe God created us and created this universe (time and space) around us, then you should probably rule out intelligent aliens. However, I don't think you should rule out all alien life. God put stuff in the oceans that we'll never know about, he could do the same on any planet that he chooses. Finding life on another planet wouldn't rock theism, but finding intelligent life, especially life that doesn't worship the same God, certainly would. Any advanced aliens visiting earth with high tech spacecraft would likely be proof that God does not exist.
It would be evidence against specific God beliefs. There could be a God none of us know about and i used to be a polytheist who would not have been challenged by aliens or any gods they believed in. Though i do think to strongly think there are no aliens one needs to adopt some sort of God belief or drop most of our current understanding of the universe.
Fun Fact: There's no such thing as "space aliens", UFOs", etc. It's al a clown show.

It's a very sad thought that in the entire universe this one grain of sand out of an entire desert is only grain that gives meaning to the universe because like a flickering candle it'll eventually die out leaving nothing but blackness until The Holy Spirt takes another human form and flies down onto another stable planet and recreates man in his image and then tells them not to screw this one up this time.
What if God has different experiments going on all over the universe? Humans are but one of them and we arent privy to the other experiments.

If G-d doesn't tell us that there is, it must not be worth knowing for us. Or there aren't any others to inform us on at all.
He could make other universes (outside our time and space). The Bible describes time and space as being created around us. If we met other aliens and they did not describe the same God, it would shake theism to its core.

It isn’t authoritarian to say someone who committed assault on live national television should be arrested for that crime.

I would say that isn’t a presupposition, but a conclusion at which he arrived after much research and contemplation.
Yes, his world view assumes there is a God and that God is knowable, provided the Bible, etc. The other guy has a different world view (that we evolved randomly and by chance), so he has a different assumption about aliens. If you start from different assumptions, you arrive at different conclusions. If aliens do show up (which they have not), then you could state that as evidence of the evolutionary view and against the biblical one. But at the moment, the actual evidence supports the Biblical view.
@@SimonASNG its laughably naive to think that in this infnite universe, which it factually is, that aliens dont exist. it is comical, it is self centered and its just down right moronic to think otherwise. why should aliens reveal themselves to us? why? for what? what exactly can we offer? why do we think that aliens are obligated to do so? why cant they just exist and not want to know if others exist? why cant aliens be just like us in being alive and sentient, but not advanced enough to traverse the stars.
We arent special. We are the grandest unique of circumstances compiled through time. The way water flows through cracks, we flowed through the canals of chance and evolution to end up here. It cant be an accident if it wasnt intentional, we are just, an effect. The offset side effect of the universe mushing its unique atoms around to and from to create what we are.
