What role does emotion play in our religious experience? What if our emotions point one way and the Word of God points another? What then do we do? Are our feelings ever a safe guide? Explain. What if you were confronted with the appearance of a dead loved one? What would you do? More important, what is your only safeguard against the deceptions of spiritualism in your culture that undermine the supremacy of God’s Word? Emotion can play a significant role in our religious experience. It is natural for emotions to be involved in matters of faith, worship, and spiritual experiences. Emotions can provide a sense of connection, joy, awe, and reverence when engaging with religious practices and beliefs. They can enhance our personal connection with God and deepen our spiritual journey. However, when emotions and personal experiences seem to conflict with the teachings of the Word of God, it becomes crucial to exercise discernment. The Word of God, as revealed in sacred texts such as the Bible, is considered the ultimate authority for believers. It provides a reliable and objective standard against which our experiences and emotions can be evaluated. If our emotions appear to lead us in a different direction from what the Word of God teaches, it is important to prioritize the authority of Scripture. Our feelings can be influenced by various factors such as personal biases, cultural influences, and individual desires, which may not always align with God's truth. Relying solely on our feelings as a guide can be risky because they can be subjective and prone to change. To guard against the deceptions of spiritualism or any other cultural influences that undermine the supremacy of God's Word, it is essential to cultivate a strong foundation in the Scriptures. This involves regular study, prayer, seeking guidance from reliable teachers, and being part of a faith community that upholds the authority of God's Word. By grounding ourselves in the truth of Scripture and relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can discern and navigate through various spiritual experiences and avoid being led astray. If confronted with the appearance of a dead loved one or any other spiritual encounter, it is important to approach it with caution and discernment. In such situations, it is advisable to compare the experience with what the Bible teaches. God's Word serves as a safeguard, providing clear guidelines and principles that help us distinguish between genuine encounters and deceptive spiritual practices. Ultimately, the supremacy of God's Word is our ultimate safeguard against deception. By aligning our emotions, experiences, and spiritual encounters with the teachings of Scripture, we can ensure that our faith remains rooted in truth and our relationship with God remains authentic.
A very powerful lesson and we thank Pastor Eric and Pastor Mark for leading in such a powerful way. Two issues I want to bring to the host's attention. Firstly the woman of Revelation 12 is not clothed in white but with the sun. The second one is the argument that we usually make about how dead loved ones would feel seeing their loved ones suffer on earth may not be as strong a philosophical argument as we may think. A person who also went through suffering but is now enjoying heaven may be comforted that even their loved ones will be in heaven one day. What about also those who will see their loved ones who did not choose Christ go into the lake of fire? Lastly, what do we say of Enoch, Moses, Elijah, and the saints resurrected with Christ who are in heaven currently and saw the suffering of their loved ones and are seeing it still today? I think we should look for other ways to convince people and stay with what the Bible says. People may not like what the truth says for various reasons and we should be careful and ensure that the arguments we use to convince them are water tight. Otherwise I really appreciate your work and am thoroughly bless by these discussions.
Thank you very much for this sessions each week. i truly love it and I make it my priority to watch, take note and learn. Helps me understand scriptures well thru this study. Makes lessons study clearer for me especially on sabbaths
Without the Word of God, we would not know very much about Jesus. He invites us to: Search the Scriptures because they testify of Him. (See John 5:39) He also prayed the Father that He would sanctify us through the truth and stated that God's Word is truth. (See John 17:17)
