Beautiful articulation and presentation of Raga Bhimpalasi by Ustad Latafat Hussain Khansahab. He was my brother in law as my patternal sister got married to him.
Vajahat Hussain Khan I envy you for having such a great vocalist as your brother -in-law. But Latafat Hussain Sahab had the great Ustads Khadim Hussain and Anwar Hussain as his elder brothers and the great Vilayat Hussain Khan as his maternal uncle (mamaji). What an imposing lineage!
Despite a rough voice that is somewhat obstructive at times, he has been able to keep us spellbound with the grandeur, the vastness, the loneliness that is the essence of Bhimpalasri. The drut part seemed too long, too much taan-loaded, yet it is the spirit of the vilambit that finally prevails. I hope none of my connoisseur friends will take offence at my uninvited and frank comments. After all I am only a lay listener.
Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan, Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan and Ustad Ghulam Ahmed Khan, all the three were the Son in-laws of Gayanacharya Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khansahab Pranpiya, of the famous Agra Gharana.
