Theodore Major: A collection of 35 paintings (HD)
Description: "Theodore Major was an English artist best known for his eclectic paintings, drawings, and prints. Major’s themes included psychological darkness, female nudes, and industrial cityscapes. Influenced by artists like L.S. Lowry, Vincent van Gogh, and Georges Rouault, his expressive brushwork and grim color schemes are hallmarks of his work. "To disturb and extend consciousness in the mind of the viewer,” the artist once said of his intent. Major's practice is notable for its unflinching populism, and his frequent refusal to sell his work to the “elite”. Born on February 19, 1908 in Wigan, United Kingdom, he studied at the Wigan Art School from 1927-1932. Later, the artist found employment in Lancashire, illustrating political cartoons for periodicals such as the Daily Mail and the Manchester Guardian. Major died at 90 on January 17, 1999 in Ormskirk, United Kingdom. Today, his works are in the collections of the Manchester Art Gallery and the Salford Art Gallery."

I love his pieces. So much emotion.
Wow, without this channel, I'd never have discovered these absolutely wonderful Painters!!!
LearnFromMasters, we can't thank you enough!!
i know im asking randomly but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would love any tips you can give me.
Some great work here. He certainly deserves an exhibition!
I just discovered my favorite artist.
Me too. About a week ago by accident. Amazing work.
somehow these paintings are connected with my emotions, love it !!!
Massive, bleak. Bright in its darkness. Sadness, joyless despair. How could he express a fear of heights better? Emotionally, in ourselves
My brother took lessons from Major for a few weeks way back in time. Atmospheric painter... superb.
Thank you for posting. Would like to see more of same in the coming days.
Gracias!!!
Born in Wigan. Must be the location of Orwell's book, Wigan Pier. The life of miners and their abusive employers. It wasn't a psychological darkness only that inspired Theodore Major, if such is the case.
A lot of this work seems derivative of Lowery , although the figures seem cowed more by nature than the ' dark satanic mills '
Thanks! what is the music that play along, it is so beautiful!!!
The visual beauty is very good~!
Awesome paintings.
Excellent paintings
Qué bueno seguir conociendo obras que te sorprenden. Gracias!
Awesome paintings
Very nice
tremendooo
Pretty cool.
Seems to be pretty bad weather in Theodore's neck of the woods...
Or beautiful
Hello, I didn't find where you identify the paintings. It's a pity
His paintings hit me harder than Francis Bacon's work
My Twin Georg is born February 18. He would have a lot in common with him being an Aquarius .

Kongrat os Rio de Janeiro staat. Soen! Guut!

Except For Two, The Rest Of Them Really Depressing Paintings
One criteria I have for good painting is would I be shocked to see it piled up in a corner along with the other hundreds of frameless, or cheap, chip-framed saggy canvases smeared with hideous globs of paint at the local run down thrift store. This collection would look entirely at home there.
turquoise770 Go on, admit it. You didn't like the pictures, did you?
I don't think your average artist can get those emotions and epic skies on canvas in the same way though
@@bankruptbritain6103 Any smear of paint, once its been publicly elevated by the organs of "official state art" for reasons of propaganda and power, is hard to look at in the same way again. Take away all the romanticized hype that only grows with time and understand why it has it been promoted, and you'll be able to see the smear again. Smears admittedly can be beautiful in an abstract sort of way just because of their color and the serendipitous way in which they may spread out over various textures, but in context they are worthless because nearly anyone, including animals can make them; talent, like gold or diamonds has value because it is very rare, and so the applications of the medium which are not smears but wonderfully applied uses of the material which very few can do should instead be elevated - but alas, for reasons of propaganda and power they are not, since the criteria goalposts ( for various nefarious reasons ) have been moved long ago...
Yet more dystopian nonsense! Remember what Aristotle said? "Proper art does not depict man as he is, but as he could and should be." It's a pity that "Artists" such as Major neglected the point Aristotle wanted to make. For that matter, those who sell his works also went well out of their way to ignore Aristotle in the name of their own profits.
