- For today's review, I shred the various mountains of SSX Tricky! So, is this game an Uber time, or is it a Tricky mess? Let's find out!
All footage captured in-house on original hardware, using an Elgato HD60 paired with an EON GCHD and mClassic adapter.

As a kid that grew up with Cool Boarders moving up to the ranks of SSX was a breath of fresh air! When it comes to extreme sports arcade games, you cannot get much better than SSX honestly. I mean, seriously! You can jump your board over a major city’s overpass! Fun music, great mechanics and just an overall fun time. Games than still hold up after 20 years is mind blowing to say the least. Amazing review my friend!
Oh man, SSX really revolutionized the snowboarding scene! It doesn’t get much better than this…and it’s follow up (next week’s review). The creativity in this game is insane and games nowadays are truly lacking this level of style. Glad you enjoyed the review man!
Literally one of my favorite games on PS2. The guillotine special move was my favorite uber trick. Fantastic review! Thank you!
Easily one of the best for the 6th-generation (specifically, the PS2 version of this game since it was better optimized). The Guillotine Uber trick was sick! Glad you enjoyed the review! Thank you for checking it out!
Had so many fun memories of this game. Similar to you, me and my brother would play this together all the time to try and get the highest tricks possible. Really wished they brought back these style of games. Great review. Very nostalgic
I really miss having these style of games nowadays, which also shows how much games like this stood the test of time. That’s awesome to hear you and your brother would play this all the time as well. It’s great to have memories of a game like that. Glad you enjoyed the review man!
Awesome review man! I only ever played the original SXX, this one looks really fun.
Glad you enjoyed the review man! This game is a blast for sure, and a step up from the original.
I grew up with this game. I got my gf a GameCube and a bunch of games for Christmas this year and this was one of them
Such an awesome game, and that’s an amazing gift you got your gf this year! Hope she loved it! Thanks for checking out the review!
Nice summary - I remember seeing a lot of this back in the day. Your right - refreshing is the world - I miss this hyper surrealism in sports games
Thank you! And yes, refreshing is the word that always comes to mind with SSX Tricky (and SSX 3). Hyper surrealism is far more enjoyable to me than hyper realism. We need more of this style of game nowadays. Glad you enjoyed the review!
This is legit one of my fave games on the PS2 but I've never played it on Gamecube, I've gotta look into scoring a copy. Great video!
I will say, this game is far better on PS2 due to the more stable framerate there, versus this version being rushed out. It still plays great, just heavily noticeable since I grew up with the PS2 version lol. Glad you enjoyed the review!
I love this channel as much as i love the 6th gen! Those were the days! Great job of a review i feel like im about to walk in a shop and see this game on the shelves xD!
Thank you! Always glad to hear of 6th-Gen fans! They definitely were the golden years in gaming. And that’s awesome that the review nailed the feeling of thinking you’re about to come across the game on store shelves! Thank you so much again for checking out the review and the awesome compliment!
Agreed long gone are the days it feels when developers really wanted to be creative and put imagination into games even something as simple as the making of just adds value to the game. Great video my friend
It really is a shame, and the industry is just getting more and more lazy by just playing it “safe” a lot of the time. They try to mimic whatever series is successful, and we end up with a stagnation in games. That, and they love to charge people for any additional content, or worse yet, purposely miss out on opportunities to add content for the sake of “DLC”. Glad you enjoyed the review man!
I will always regret never playing this game... One of my biggest gaming regrets. Thanks for this excellent video man. You could run a show for old school GT (which was my favorite web gaming content creators). Keep up the stellar work man!
It’s never too late to play it! Although, definitely stay tuned for Sunday’s review for SSX 3. That’s a review you won’t want to miss. Glad you enjoyed the review man! And thank you for that amazing compliment!!
still upload this game daily. love how much replayability it has! Great video!
Such an amazing game! While I wish this version ran smoother, it’s still great on the GameCube. That’s awesome you still play this daily! 👍
I remember ads for SSX Tricky in my PlayStation magazine. The female in the red jacket was always the center of attention and her b00bs were always about to burst. The aggression meter is really cool, I would love that. The risk/reward for shoving other plays is an interestest aspect of whether you want that boost and to be hunted later. Finding all those hidden paths would be so fun. Bummer to hear about the GameCube frame rate issue. Great review!
Haha yeah, Elise was definitely the center of attention for certain reasons lmao! The aggression meter is definitely a great risk/reward system that adds a lot of character to the game itself. Finding the hidden paths is very addictive for sure! The frame rate on the GC version is a shame, since the GC is capable of more, but it was rushed out to release in time for holiday. SSX 3 fares MUCH better on the GameCube. Thanks for checking out the review man!
Couldn't get enough of this game as a kid! Eddie was my favorite character, and Garibaldi my fav level.
Oh same here! Eddie was always my main in this installment. Thought he was just a really cool character and had a fun personality. Garibaldi is a great level, and does an awesome job introducing players to what to expect as they advance through the game. Thanks for checking out the review!
When I think of SSX series iconic characters, I think of the TRICKY versions. It would be cool if those amazing voice actors came back for a remake.
Tricky did have superb character designs. I'd love to see a remake with the voice actors back on board. Thanks for checking out the review!
I didn't know it wasn't console locked to the PS2 - but this is definitely one of the best board games of the era! I appreciate a lot of your content was recorded with the best character, Eddie. I'm not surprised it holds up at all!! I'm really impressed at the animation quality of the game. I'd assumed I had rose tinted goggles when thinking about it.
This is definitely one of the best boarding games of the era (and still up there all these years later)! Awesome to see another Eddie fan 👍. The animation quality is superb, and only got better in the follow up (but more on that next Sunday since SSX 3 is the next video review). No rose tinted goggles on this one…SSX Tricky still holds up remarkably! Just wish the GameCube version ran as smooth as the PS2 version. Thanks again for checking out the review man!
Man I remember this game!!!! Was such a great game!!!! Great review guys! Loved it
Glad you enjoyed the review! Definitely an awesome game!!
Finally getting around to it. Loved tricky on the og xbox. Valid point on the character design. Having standout selection and differences is important. Good review 👍
Glad to hear you loved the game back in the day also! The character design was fantastic, and still holds up so well today. Thanks again for checking it out, and glad you enjoyed the review!
It seemed like a fun title, great video👌🏽👌🏽
Such an excellent game (despite technical issues on the GC version) that holds up so well 20 years later!
Loving your game reviews!!
Thank you! Glad to hear that!
you missed a charcter, on the PS2 you get a NTSC version and a PAL version, NTSC features Mac while the PAL version features Marty
One of the greatest games of all time. I wish EA would remaster this for release at some point. Maybe THQ Nordic could take up the license.
Agreed! I would love to see this and SSX 3 remastered. Maybe one day! Thanks for checking out the review!
@@GameCubeGalaxy Great review. It's inspired me to play it front to back again. It's been about a decade since I've visited it.
@@Beardodoomus thank you man! Oh if it’s been that long, I’d say a replay is in order 👍.
What a great game. Spent hours having fun with it!
It’s so easily to lose hours playing this game for sure! Thanks for checking out the review!
shoot, I sold this game b/c I wasn't really playing it anymore, but now I'm staring to second guess that decision
Yeah…these are games I’d never sell personally haha. But it’s still reasonably priced to nab currently! Thanks for checking out the review!
I’m wondering what’s the better game to first try out, this or 1080 avalanche?
Honestly, both games are such unique experiences, you can’t go wrong with either! However, if you want the absolute best snowboarding game, SSX 3 is it (which I’ve reviewed as well)!
Dude I am ashamed to say I have never played an SSX game and now that I think about it I don't think I have ever REALLY played a snowboarding game
Dude, definitely play this game! It's such an essential game for the 6th-gen. I will say though, if this looked cool, wait until you watch my SSX 3 review! Thanks again for checking out the review man!
Great game my new friend.
Agreed! Thank you for checking out the review!
