Guess again! Even with the 20 million bats at the Bracken Cave, the 2 million bats at the Congress Ave. Bridge, and a number of smaller bat caves around the San Antonio area, you will still get bit by millions of mosquitos!
they don't really do enough to combat mosquitos at all. And are the number one transmitter of rabies to humans. www.statesman.com/news/20180528/from-bats-to-cats-austin-area-sees-cluster-of-rabies-cases
When the man was explaining this to me, I kinda wasn't paying attention but from what I gathered he was saying between all the humid warm air and the insects then you throw in the fact that the Congress bridge has all the deep trenches and creveces.. It's perfect for em..
Got up to about 100 bats in my houses near The Woodlands. Unfortunately a pair of Barred Owels wiped them out in a few days and they've never returned.
Bad thing is almost no one here is sharing the fact that these bats don't come out every night. Weather is really hot from May-August (over 100) to go walking if you are staying far from the bridge. And parking is very expensive ($15-$25) and hard to find a spot. We tried 4 nights in a row from June 19-June 22, 2023 from 7-9:30pm and they never came out. Just keep that in mind.
This is the ONLY cool thing about Austin Texas. The city officials are greedy, the city is becoming way over crowded, and especially downtown is so drug-infested, that it's disgusting. Not to mention the severe heat and humidity from March through November!
Would have been so much nicer if dude would learn how to KEEP YOUR CAMERA STILL!! This was like watching this with someone shaking my head. Thumbs down. Next.
i bet there is no mosquito problems in that area.

I lived there in the 80's and it was going on then. They keep growing in numbers and as many as bugs TX has they need them lol.
It's really cool to watch from a distance. The cloud is so silent, it feels like a paradox. It's a lot of fun
the dark knight must be in town
I have actually gotten a chance to see this in person, and this is an awesome sight!
Wow - the skyline facing east is so radically different in just the 6 years since this was posted. This town has grown so much...
Bats: *keeps insect populations at bay, pollinates flowers and is an overall miracle of evolution*
Humans: “Ew bats”
Bats: “Excuse me what the fuck”
We seen the bats just like that... it was really cool!
Whenever a flock of bats come to a city. That means Batman is there.
I'm not a fan of bats, but I have seen this in person and it is pretty amazing to watch.
Such an awesome sight!

One of the better vids of the bats...
I was just there on October 28th (2018) and watched from 6:30 until about 7:30 and didn't see anything. Maybe it was too late in the year?
They may have flown back to Mexico at that time of year
Batman came to Australia and brought his new crew
I miss living in Austin.
"Last thing he told me" brought me here
that is fantastic. Does someone know why they choose that place in particular? Are there many abandoned buildings? caves?
For anyone reading, they live there because the structure of the congress avenue bridge makes a perfect bat living space
11 + 4?
i love all the bats i think they are cute
Does Austin have a reduced mosquito problem as a result?
I hope to see them in May! But maybe that's too early in the season?

Them bats is smart. They use radar.

Poor beautiful babies. I wonder how climate change, storms, floods, and industrialization are affecting their populations.
Want drugs? Just go downtown Austin any day of the week. You can also buy drugs from the Austin Police! No kidding.
it could have been worse
I've seen this there before. It's not that uncommon.
