I think this is one of the best tracks to introduce someone to the Volta. It has all of their staples, but is accessible enough, and sometimes reminiscent of classic rock.
Much love to keymaster Isaiah 'Ikey' Owens, who is no longer with us. Kind thoughts and well-wishes for bassist Juan Alderete, who recently suffered a TBI.
This is usually the song I've chosen to introduce someone new to TMV. It's just weird enough to not scare anyone away, but brings just about all of their quirks to the table. Get ready for 'Baphomets' Dean, it is quite the ride.
This is the de facto main single from the album and it's best song imo, it's such a standout, one of the most important songs in my life personally, it was one of the four songs TMV toured with when they played festivals in 2009, this was the one they chose to represent this album, the others being Roulette Dares (again Deloused's main song imo) and Cotopaxi and I believe L'Via.
Fun Fact: John Frusciante from the Red Hot Chili Peppers is the guitarist in this track. It is said that for Omar to truly express the vision he saw for this song he knew he wouldn't be able to play and 'create' at the same time without there being errors in between the process. So he reached out to John and ask if he wouldn't mind being Omar's hands in this track..
Pretty sure John did a lot of the guitar on the album, especially when there are two guitars playing at once john is typically the right channel while omar is the left.
Hey, Dean! I love what you said about this reaction series becoming a proper little community. 👍 I (like you, I'm sure) settle down for each vid duo with libations, scratch paper, and a nice set of headphones, ready for at least a half hour of music, thoughtful commentary, a few laughs, and the sheer enjoyment of being with people who like the same kinds of music I do. You created this- and it MATTERS- to all of us! I am grateful for the community, and I read every comment, reply, and suggestion. I've expanded my listening library and musical cognition with this, and am very thankful for you and the rest of the viewers, too! 🙏 Bless this community! 😉 P.S. When the Monty Python caption appeared, I swear to god I pictured Ben just off screen, ready to throw a rubber chicken at your head, or something. 😆
This song is full of ridicously incredible guitar motives and riffs, actually this one got me into the Mars volta more than ten years ago. I think Omar was at the top of his game in terms of guitar playing, still a lot of weirdeness and dissonance but spreaded in a very smart way
These Mars Volta reactions have all been great! I think Deloused in the comatorium is the album to react to by them! It’s just so incredible! I would love if you could get around to reacting to Circa Survive- Lustration at some point! Cheers man ✌️
You should react to the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Flea John Frusciante live jam that was recorded at a show around the release of Amputechture. It’s on UA-cam. It’s amazing. Us Mars Volta fans will certainly check that out
Dean, you may enjoy the interview they did with Henry Rollins around the release of this album, they mention their influences, which included Yes, of course. Search "The Mars Volta Amputechture interview", if you're interested!
Frusciante tracked guitars but that doesn't mean any of it is on the finished record. I do believe the clean melody in the second part of the song to the end, that omar solos over, is played by him though. It sounds like something straight off one of his solo records
The mars volta has a lot of unreleased songs, maybe check some of them out, I recommend the songs concertina, orchestrina or k49 whisper to your flinch . U literally make the best music related content.
One of my favorites 😍😍 please tell me you're gonna react to the Deloused in the comatorium full album and the bedlam in goliath album.... this last one has thomas pridgen on drums and they won a grammy with the song Wax Simulacra... I love that album.... and they say theres something satanic about that álbum 😱

I hadn’t heard this song in a long time. I forgot how cool this was.

Great song for cruising in the car.
Tru
I think the best part of this song is that flute at the very end.
If 1:44 gave you a small heart attack, then I can’t wait to see what happens to you when you listen to Day of the Baphomets.
Exactly!
That's next
Dean Wolfe awesome. Will you eventually go back to some of the songs on Deloused?
The Goat - he seems to be digging the format of going through whole albums so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did this with Deloused at some point too
dont forget Cavalettas too xD
you gotta dive into some TMV songs off of The Bedlam in Goliath! AMAZING album with a really cool back story!
Bedlam is a monster of album... I don't want to get greedy but yes a Bedlam reaction would be awesome

Oh man! I’m totally having some wine while listening to Volta tonight! Awesome reaction.
This is one song by TMV where I would definitely recommend the live version. They get into such an amazing groove, makes it even better.
Fuck, I've never given this album a proper listen!
I'm reacting just like Dean over here!
Glad you got back to this album after a few days off. Such an awesome songs, especially live.
I may also be the only person who learn the solo note for note back in the day and I regret none of the hours wasted
I try to minimize linear ranking in my head, but I'm pretty sure this is my favorite song.
There aren't many attempts like this.
Yes! Been waiting for this one, my favourite track on this album. Let’s go!
You know it's a true first time reaction when the sneeze is in there, bless you!

This song and roulette dares made me love cedrics voice
I've been waiting for this reaction. THIS was the song that introduced me to The Mars Volta.
Yay! Finally so hype
This song is full of ridicously incredible guitar motives and riffs, actually this one got me into the Mars volta more than ten years ago. I think Omar was at the top of his game in terms of guitar playing, still a lot of weirdeness and dissonance but spreaded in a very smart way
Yes! I was scouring your page yesterday to see if you had listened to this yes. It's a ballin' song.
Thought you gave up on The Mars Volta lol good to see new reaction
No way!
Un gran disco! Un gran video!
These Mars Volta reactions have all been great! I think Deloused in the comatorium is the album to react to by them! It’s just so incredible! I would love if you could get around to reacting to Circa Survive- Lustration at some point! Cheers man ✌️
Bombs going off
That's a good description of tmv
I've been waiting for so long!! Let's see :)

The wait is over.
The double tracked guitar solo thing after the second verse always sounded like 2 long notes chasing each other or something lol...so trippy
The thing hold the notes is probably an e bow

Awesome,...a Person who getting in contact with mars volta,i will follow..
Btw. The shark in background got headphones too??!!! 😅
Monster track. Hadn't really listened to this album back in the day.
Hey mean Dean lol my prog brother. Check out a band called Glasswork. Great band worth checking out. I say that alot lol
John Frusciante plays on this track or only Omar? I love the solo part!
I think Omar taught John the whole record and then let him perform it in studio. That way he could view the album from the outside. More objectively.
Frusciante tracked guitars but that doesn't mean any of it is on the finished record.
