I'd like to volunteer to hug the kids whose family couldnt be there.
It is greatly appreciated... As one of said kids.. I was completely cool with hanging back in the dorms and giving folks tours or hell... Errrr... I mean our homes for thr last bit... But was adopted by a mom who would not take no for an answer... Even told my TI that he better do what he can to force me to get away from it all for a bit... I'll never forget that passion... And they didn't even dump me off once we got off base... I was trying not to take away from their time with the loved one...
On a cool not I was just able to return the favor a few months back (20+) years after.... As I happened to be there during graduation....
Me too. Does the military have such a program? They should. I know there are some fellow soldiers/sailors/airmen who band together to do it, but it would be nice to know.

A lot of folks can't afford to catch a plane. A lot of folks join the service, because of poverty.

I feel sooo sorry for the graduate behind them. She was just standing alone the whole time. 😢 I am so happy for the wife and for her husband being able to surprise her. What a bittersweet video. ❤

There were 2 and probably their family just didn’t find them yet 🤷♀️
They must wait and remain in place until they get "tapped out". I'm sure their family or friends just hadn't made it out of the stands yet and gotten to them for them to be able to move. And speaking as an Air Force mom who's rushed that field to find my son, it's awful hard to know exactly where your loved one is down there when they all look the same from the stands. So you have to walk all around searching until you finally find that face you love. And all the while, they wait, ready to give you the best hug you'll ever get. ❤
So glad my branch didn’t do this. We had our ceremony and were marched back to the barracks where we were dismissed. I’m happy for the folks whose families make it, but it’s bad enough not being important enough for your family to show up, having to stand there knowing you’re no one is coming has to suck.

My husband came back from Vietnam nam. He did 2 tours and never ,never was the same. He said war is hell . Thanks to all that have served in the military.

My late husband, rest his weary soul, was captured twice in Vietnam as a Ghost Walker. He was injured after returning Stateside and honorably discharged with no benefits. After suffering TWICE as a POW, he had horrible nightmares and would regress to combat after several head injuries. He was finally awarded a lousy 40% disability after years of dealing with PTSD and other physical and mental issues. NEVER EVER JUDGE WHAT A VETERAN HAS GONE THROUGH, AND NEVER EVER PUT DOWN ANYONE WHO JOINED THE ARMED FORCES FOR WHATEVVVER REASON! There, but for the Grace of God, go you!

It is worse in person. My son graduated basic training in the USAF in 2007. There were a few no one touched. They can't move until someone does too.

The hardest thing to do is actually to find your graduate. My wife and I were there for our son 4 years ago and by the time we got to the parade ground from our seats, it was a mass of humanity. i'm following my wife with a camera and she's weaving all over the place looking for our son. thankfully 5 or 6 minutes later we found him.
We felt lucky and proud we could be there and of course you do feel bad for those whose loved ones could not make it there for their graduate.
