Great video, great editing. I don't feel like a second was wasted! My brother restores old ACs. He tears them completely apart to paint, lubricate and check bearings. He buys new gaskets, seats, mufflers and puts in new wiring and gauges but I don't think he'll rebuild a mag. Thanks for this, great job!
I am about to tackle my first magneto rebuild. After watching your video, I am confident I will be able to do this successfully. Very good presentation and it's nice to see a young lady involved in keeping these old tractors in the fields! Keeo up the great work!
I'm getting ready to rebuild one of these on an old chalmers I've never had a chance to tear into one but I feel much more confident after watching your video thanks excellent job 🤟🚜
Thanks for a great tutorial on the WD. You explain the details clearly. I could do this repair. Wish I would have seen this two years ago when old orange would not start.
Great video! I would suggest that when the armature is out, if you are not super-sure that the magnets are strong, get them recharged. Never a better time. Weak magnets were the main problem I had with my recently-repaired FMJ on my B.
Excellent job of pointing out the parts and reassembly. The only step that was missed, was when installing the Mag back on the tractor, is to make sure that the rotor is pointed at the pickup inside the rotor cap for which ever cylinder is at TDC of the Flywheel, other than that it was a great video and I haven't seen any videos this good on rebuilding from beginning to end. 👍 😊
Great job, Rachel! I've been re-watching some of your older videos, and it's been interesting to see how you've matured, and how your experience is growing. Very thorough and well explained! I was wondering, also, if you are still doing auctioneering? Keep up the good work!
Great video for the FM rebuild. Make note, the F mark showing, does not tell you if the number one cylinder is on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke and the F mark is not for static timing( use the C or TDC mark for static timing), but for using a light, while the engine is running. Maybe you cover this in another video for actual timing of the magneto?
On an F163 and 162 you time the engine and mag to #4 cylinder. You did not mention timing the mag. I have a 2 cylinder Wisconsin on a 1947 Lincoln welder I lost my fire on it and the mag is similar with the gear on the cap. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video. Working on a ‘54 harley and couldn’t find any information on how the seal assembly works on the bottom of the magneto (Morris / Joe Hunt). Found it quickly in your video. Thanks!
I've never tore apart a mag before. You totally blew my mind away at how you ripped it down and put it together like a pro In record time. You totally have my respect and admiration. I think there are women out there that make better techs than men. The only problem I have is that you're so damn cute that I find it hard to pay attention to the tutorial lol. Thanks for sharing 😁
is there any repair work that may overwhelm you? It appears to me that you would tackle just about anything. You are an inspiration to anyone that watches your series of videos, but I hope it does so for the younger generation such as yourself. You give me hope that all will be well when I take my leave.
Very good and informative video. However, I would seriously recommend that Rachel wear eye protection when working on parts containing circlips, snap rings and springs. We only get one set of eyes. Thanks for sharing.
Rachel, You are quite an amazing young lady, I am just fixing one of these at the moment. My mate has two of these tractors, so fixing them for him, in New Zealand. if only more women were like you! On the coil locking screws I would keep using penetrating oil for 24 hours then that should loosen them up? I used a Pointed angled screwdriver thingy to remove the fiber washer as I did not have another one. Good Going Have a great day and thanks for the vodeo. I love older vehicles. Do you send parts to New Zealand? Burton Trent
I have the same tractor that came with the property I bought, runs great for about 10 minuets until the carb ices up solid, my "M" doesn't do that, any thoughts?
Hi Rachel, Where does the larger black wire running opposite the condenser connect to? I have a FMX Magneto on a Ford 2N tractor and it does not have that wire. Also, even when my points are open there is continuity between them. Should the smaller coil wire, condenser wire and point spring all be connected on the insulating post? (I have new points, condenser and coil installed.)
Great video... Should you (Just as a good general rule of thumb) put the tractor at TDC before starting this job to be sure you don't mis- time the tractor when reassembling?
Probably a good idea to put the engine crank aligned with the timing mark before disassembly. I use a business card or the card from a cigarette package to set the points. Check thickness with a micrometer first. Card will not scratch the point surface and often feeler gauges may have a thin film of oil. Note: women were often used for fine work on engines in WW II. Queen Elizabeth as a teenage princess qualified as a "Driver/Mechanic" In the British Army.
I put one on a C, the timing mark is easily seen through a port on the rear of the engine. It is really easy to find the mark and you can also check to see if the impulse springs work so it isn't really critical to set the engine at TDC you can turn it until it is and then set the mag to where the points are just opening. The tractor I put the mag on had been messed with a bunch before I got to it. I am sure there is someone on here showing how to do it.
I have 2 issues. My Magneto is counter clockwise could you help discuss that way of timing it and also there is no fire mark on my Why will. So how do I go about timing it.. Thank you!
That's a great looking tractor !!! Are you and your dad or ur husband in the tractor parts sales ? I love them old tractors where in Michigan you from up or lower I am from Wisconsin near Green Bay love your show!!!
One way of testing a mag is put a finger on the coil and give it a spin with the other hand, you'll know if it works or not. My grandfather got me with that trick when I was young.
I just bought a 1953 I think the weight or spring messed up some times it makes the clicking sound and some times it doesn't when I turn it by hand I already dismantle it 3 times and I noticed that when I don't hear the clicking sound there is no spark
I stumbled upon this video by accident and I have so many thoughts about this video... 1) I have worked on this type of stuff all my life and I have never come across a female of any age that has your level of interest in mechanical things and repair... awesome, 2) Are you married? 2a) If not are you interested? 2b) If so he is a lucky guy! Great job!

Great video. I am new to the A-C Universe and look forward to more helpful, step-by-step instruction. Thank you!
Nice! her hands show she is really a mechanic and truly works on stuff. Awesome! Sending this to my daughter.
lol good idea, teach them women to work and not play with their cell phones all day and night.
@qedcharlie Guys on phones even more now trying to pick up girls lol 😂
How could you not love this Woman. Terrific instructional video.
So cool to see you back at it! Great video and thank you for helping keep these old tractors alive.

Nice video. Great lighting and camera work.
This is a great video. You make it look and sound easy to rebuild a magneto. Keep up the good work!
Nice job Rachel! Looks like a professional production....
SO glad to see you back! Another great video!
It was obvious to me , she has excellant mechanical abilities! I learned a lot .
But never pry with the screw driver against the coil like she did. But other than that she did great, Thanks Rachel !! Great job.
Thanks for a great tutorial on the WD. You explain the details clearly. I could do this repair. Wish I would have seen this two years ago when old orange would not start.
Lovely to see a knowledgeable young lady well done. It's easy to see you know your job and also enjoy it. 👍👍

Increadibly smart video! My tractor magneto works just fine now. Thank you! Good work!!
Très belle démonstration , toujours avec le sourire .
What a great presentation, very professional. Thank you!

Great video, for a teenager she sure knows her stuff.
Good job Rachel.

Excellent job.
Nice job. Next time could you show the press work, i.e.: armature and bearing removal/re-install. Thanks

You are incredible. Do you happen to work on old wesconsin 4 cylinders.
I can't get over how well spoken you are .
Nice!Be carefull not to hurt the coil with prying against it with the screwdriver to remove the plate.

Ad a Old Mechanic and I had work for many years on Alli Charmer farm tractors she us Excellent
Well done
Thank you for the new video. Great job.
How do you figure out which way your magneto turns clockwise or counterclockwise?
Very good and informative video. However, I would seriously recommend that Rachel wear eye protection when working on parts containing circlips, snap rings and springs. We only get one set of eyes. Thanks for sharing.

I have a 48 Allis C the mag has written on it that it was a hot rebuild. I'm not seen that before on what it means.
How long does this lasts before needing replaced again im sure elements affect this as well
Super helpful thanks
I have the same tractor that came with the property I bought, runs great for about 10 minuets until the carb ices up solid, my "M" doesn't do that, any thoughts?
Sharp looking tractor
How do I know what parts I will need?
anyone know is there a aftermarket upgrade to a distributor for these possibly ?

Everytime I take something apart then I replace the bearings if possible.
great job ! and very talented and cute host ;)
Need more women like you! Good video.
I didn't see the horseshoe magnet. I have an allis B with mag. on it. Is it, most people
don't worry about recharging the magnet .

Is the installation of the impulse spring the same on a Wico xh? Having a heck of a time, and I'm running out of curse words.
Nice video .

Magnificent.
Hallo, Rachel, where is the engine number at the Allis Chalmers AM 2990-5 Danke und Gruss aus der Schweiz.

Hi
Another great video. But I think I will let a pro rebuild my mag!
Good stuff!
