It's a Sony Backbone with a screen. The Backbone does the same streaming with any phone. This looks more durable. The Backbone looks like it could break a phones charge port. I actually like the device. I used it laying in bed and I used it at a hotel the other day worked good. Except the hotel wifi was a little choppy but went back to being good right away.
I found it funny that it got "airplane mode" when it got no way to play games offline, just shut it off at that point. Sad that this is what Sony wanted to do rather than the next PSP, I'm only getting one is if is ever on sale for $150

Hi. I just got a Portal and I’d like to ask a question. When I have been using it, I’ve noticed that the control sticks have less resistance when I push them in comparison to a Duelsense, which has more resistance when pushed. Is it the same for you?

Does your PlayStation 5 have to be connected to the internet at home when you are on vacation somewhere eles with your ps portal? Even if where you are on vacation you have excellete internet conection. I know it has to be on rest mode. Thats my question
Where’s the convience of buying a $200 controller that’s larger than a Duel Sense? Is it that hard to toss a controller in your bag? Is glueing together your screen and controller really worth $130?
@@JakeyJonesyour phone becomes immediately useless if you remote play. You can literally use no other function of your phone without it disconnecting your session . It kills your phone battery and you need 2 devices to play comfortably. The portal also connects way faster than your phone does and I mean it significant. I got the fold 4 and it connects faster than that .
When you’re on the go, the instances where you would want to connect and play your PS5 are very short sessions. Also your phone is not using any computing power to run the games, it’s just streaming them and logging the controller inputs. I’ve never had an issue with battery, and even if I did, phones have fast charging. I don’t know if the PS Remote Play app is different on the fold, but there’s an option in settings to have the game run in the background if you wanted to check a notification or put on a video without closing the session. Otherwise, gaming is a very focused activity that I don’t normally need to use my phone actively while doing. None of these problems are particularly notable, especially enough to justify a $200 device that’s larger than a controller. That’s not more convenient. If you really wanted to pay for a convenience, the backbone is $99 dollars and is slim enough to fit in a pocket. Or paying for an Ethernet cable makes your connection far faster. This device is too limited to be more useful than the current solutions.
This uses some mid-ranged Snapdragon processor... An improbable future with a variant of Elite X chip is all we can dream of... running the games locally with edge or pro version!!
My main question is, is there any difference between the streaming quality/experience compared to say remote play on your ipad with a ps5 controller connected? Optomised any better etc... Or we thinking its a 1-1 just experience?
I have high upload speed and it hasn't skipped a beat compared to my phone which doesn't really either . The difference is it's ability to connect quickly . It connects to remote play 10 times faster than my phone . The speakers a crips ,the screen colors are accurate, and all the dualsense functionality is present . When it's in your hands it wraps up all together into a very nice feeling piece of tech
Super happy with this device. It’s just unreal playing these big PS5 games on the go. I’m amazed at the capabilities this thing has. Can definitely see myself putting thousands of hours into this device, even moreso than my Sony Vita
The people that keep crying about this thing not being what they wanted need to grow up. At no point in the entirety of the portals existence has it been promoted as a console, portable system, or standalone product. It has, from day one, been promoted as a controller that is designed solely for remote play. It does that job very well. This is a good product. I’m enjoying mine. @@callumcoxford8896 but every PS controller starts to drift within 6 months to a year. I’ve replaced my controller 4 times since getting my ps5. What happens when this happens on the Portal ? There's no reason to get this with products like the Abxylute and the Logitech G Cloud out there. It has bad latency even in ideal conditions. No thanks.
I'll wait until the thing gets hacked and can do interesting exclusive Playstation things locally other than being able to freely sideload any (I'm assuming it's running a PS-specific custom Android ROM) APKs it could possibly support. Because the stock device itself is pretty much paper weight without a PS5 nearby and a constant internet connection.

How does it compare to the remote play app?
All fun and game till the WiFi goes out.
Can always use the hot spot on ur phone. I wanted a regular handheld as well but why are people so pissy about this? You don’t like don’t buy it lol.
If i have two kids with different accounts, would one be able to play on the PS5 while the other one plays on this device at the same time?
Damn I want that hoodie!
When it's more widely available I'll buy one. It's useful to me since I'm constantly kicked off my TV by other people.
You know you can do what it does with your phone or tablet, right? The playstaion portal is pointless unless you want haptic feedback
The Abxylute can do that and play Xbox, Steamlink, GeForce Now, local games, Android and emulation.
@@camerontruePhones and tablets don't have full haptic feedbacks and adaptive triggers
@@camerontruehis small is small and he don't have a tablet. Period
Should've been called dualsense portal
Can you travel with this and leave your PS5 at home?
@@XxkrazymagexX nice cheers for the insight! Tempted for sure as hogging that tv is becoming more and more a struggle aha.
Super happy with this device. It’s just unreal playing these big PS5 games on the go. I’m amazed at the capabilities this thing has. Can definitely see myself putting thousands of hours into this device, even moreso than my Sony Vita
It will start to drift before you even hit 500 hours.
Got mine and love it. The haters gonna hate, until they have one😂
Fanboys don’t get a say corrd
@@ivanexell-uz4mvno but people who own one do and people bitching about one without it ever touching their hand don't 😁
I love mine but only thing I couldn’t figure out is the touch screen touchpad stuff lol could t figure out how to open my map on Jedi Survivor
They need to come up with a portable case now ... The headsets will be out in December 6th
When your hat matches your PS5 faceplate ✨
Will you need WiFi to play offline games?
Would be nice if you had a better mic by the Portal to give a sense of the audio quality. Couldn't hear the theme music you were talking about.
It's not great
The people that keep crying about this thing not being what they wanted need to grow up. At no point in the entirety of the portals existence has it been promoted as a console, portable system, or standalone product. It has, from day one, been promoted as a controller that is designed solely for remote play. It does that job very well. This is a good product. I’m enjoying mine. If it’s laggy, blame your internet provider.
How much mps is your WiFi?
@@clnsnla7417 gonna be honest, idk for sure. Haven’t checked recently.
So can I play this at work on my phones hotspot??
Does this have to be on the same WiFi connection or can I play it from outside of my home network?
I think it's pretty cool.
Does it have a direct connection with the ps5 if you don’t have Wi-Fi
Oh my God. I love the Slime PS5.
If anything, a device like this would have made better sense for Microsoft.
Since you can use gamepass and not need a console at all.
Yeah, true
I’d get that
Came here for an unboxing, got all your criticisms.
any of you know if this thing can be set up without tv? don't own a tv, won a ps5 about a month ago in raffle, started saving for tv but i don't really need nor want a tv as i don't watch tv or anything. would it be possible to set it up without a tv/monitor connected to ps5? perhaps this ps portable connected with its cable into ps5?
Theres are going to be a mass amount of buyers thinking this was a dedicated handheld......oooo those landfills are gonna fill up after Xmas
Crazy my brother went to buy this today just to be disappointed told him you need a ps5 to run it kinda pointless told him to just get the switch oled 🔥🔥
lol what can you even do with it in Airplane mode?
Still a cool device not perfect but cool so glad I pre ordered especially with scalpers
So……..what happens when the joysticks start to drift ? 🤔
I haven’t seen ANYONE ask this question in every review I’ve seen.
@@callumcoxford8896 but every PS controller starts to drift within 6 months to a year. I’ve replaced my controller 4 times since getting my ps5. What happens when this happens on the Portal ? The good thing about the switch is you can slide off the joy cons and buy new ones. You can’t do that with this device cause they are attached to it…….
Seen a UA-camr say it has screws to remove them
I have the PlayStation portal and one thing I noticed if you’re downloading a game the portal acts all weird
Every single PlayStation game uses the touch pad as a menu button. Does that mean you have to constantly be tapping the screen to open menus?
There's no reason to get this with products like the Abxylute and the Logitech G Cloud out there. It has bad latency even in ideal conditions. No thanks.
Thank you for having a brain
I bought one and I agree. Stutter fest all over the place for me. And I have really good internet.
My just a sucker for adaptive triggers
Also just get a backbone and use your $1,000 dollar phone
@@jacksonreed4864Then you don’t get haptics and adaptive triggers.
It has airplane mode? Why? It’s WiFi only anyway.
Can you use it as a normal controller too?
Yeah course you can!! I mean, it literally is just a controller with a display attached...
I don't think it would work though for local co-op...
Another thing lol...if i can only use it at home...with my ps5 next to it....why not just play the ps5?
