I just got into Survivor. I've been watching old seasons and I'm absolutely stunned that nobody ever gave you the credit you deserved. Greatest player of all time 💯
They talk about diversity, Season 1, gay guy and he wins. Many of the seasons seemed very diverse which included ‘age’ diversity. I’m not sure what Jeff and CBS saw that needed to be fixed this much. Maybe better psychological testing would have rooted out people like Brandon and Dan….or others that put a negative cast on the game. Readjust as you go, don’t throw out the ‘bones’ of the game that was getting you 10/M viewers….now about 4.5/M. SurvivorUS is winding down. Best thing to happen is let it die and let SurvivorAU with host Jonathan be aired in the US.

I didn't realize how much Survivor has been watered down and sanitized until I watched a couple season of Austrailian Survivor. 55 days and people are constantly plotting and making moves. No comparison as far as entertainment value. I feel like the US version is like the Junior league of Survivor now. Australian the major leagues

Im using Nord VPN. With the VPN you have to connect to an Australian server. Basically making the 10Play website to think you are connecting in Melbourne or something. Then, make a account at 10 play and you can stream anything you want there. Took me a while and two different VPN serrvices to figure it out

The great thing about Survivor in the past is that you had memorable casts, both the villains and the heroes, but now who has been memorable the last few seasons? Russell, Richard Hatch, Boston Rob, Tony Vlachos, Elisabeth, Rudy, Jerri Matheny, Johnny Fairplay, Coach, rupert, etc etc. all memorable but now, you'd be hard pressed to remember any of the people playing over the last few seasons.

@@steviem5279 That’s why I’ve been watching SurvivorAU, SurvivorSA, SurvivorUK and SurvivorNZ….which all stuck with ‘traditional’ Survivor. To me things started to go downhill just when they started shooting all episodes in Fiji. The game play was still tough and the interesting characters were still being found…but loved seeing parts of the world one would never get to experience on their own. Then they started regurgitating the same contestants like Boston Rob. Seemed like Jeff kept bringing him back until he finally won. Then we had to see him and Sandra back….and then they lost Lynn Spillman…..and Jeff became Mr Hollywood. Then came “New Era”….a version of Survivor that warrants being on Nickelodeon. I too have seen every episode…many 2 or 3 times. I applied for the show a dozen times on line and at casting calls. I loved this show….I wanted to experience the life changing experience but it wasn’t to be. I’m currently in the age group of Rudy and FBI Joe and probably would be more competitive than they were but I could never think of being with a bunch of whiny kids. My only bucket list items that won’t be fulfilled.

some of my favorite times, were sitting on the couch with my daughter watching the show each week. She was between 12 and 15 back then .. She love Keith from Louisianna (passed now) .. called him the cat man, because of his mustache. "Stick to the plan" became something we used in general conversation. Season 19 & 20 we were absolutely rolling with Russell's antics.. Couldn't wait to watch each week! And Tony's Llama talk, had my daughter & I teared up with laughter. Didn't realize such a great show, put together masterfully, could selfdestruct so quickly... Good memories though..

They got a new casting director in season 41, and that is the single biggest change they've made which is causing the game to tank. The shorter game, the lack of a live show... those changes hurt, but it's the new casting director which is tanking the show. Everyone looks different, but there is zero diversity in the cast. I've watched the first episode of the last few seasons, but haven't finished ANY of them.
interesting i didnt know about the casting director but tbh the show has just pivoted to a different style, more about the "society" and interrelationships of players nowadays. Fr tho I feel respectfully like you not given the seasons a fair chance, ngl a lot of them the first episode nearly got me to quit watching but i stuck with it and some of the seasons were genuinely the best ive seen in a loooong time. This season I kept forgetting that Wednesday was Survivor day. I'd remember when my friends would comment on the episode, and I'd tell myself that I needed to get caught up. But I never did; and I realized that I simply had no desire to continue watching... I used to LOVE that show.

I’ve given up on US Survivor and starting watching Survivor Australia. 10 TIMES BETTER! They don’t care about all this DEI stuff and just allow for an awesome watch experience! It’s a show I can’t wait to watch every year!
41 is easily the worst season. 42 has moments, 43 is pretty good, 44 is okay but this audience probably wouldn't like it. 45 and 46 are fun but start off slow. 47 is so far pretty meh. But yeah, new era is just missing something. Jeff has gotten too soft. The moments where the show shines now are the moments where he IS NOT soft.
In addition to what you’re saying, I want them to bring back players. Whether it be the newer players past 40 whatever. When they bring back past players it builds up the show. It builds up reps. Maybe they don’t want the big time players anymore. Idk. But I enjoy the past players coming back.
The show went extremely woke they cast everyone with the same personality and same strategy they are all superfans and they are all there to tell their sob story of their struggles. They no longer cast diverse personality types everyone is super progressive and they only cast different skin colors and sexualities. They hate casting white men and if they do they always have to either be very geeky and petite or they are usually LGBT because CBS and Survivor hate strong white heterosexual men like Russell and Tony.
I believe they realized during covid that they can cut a lot of costs by keeping it shorter and removing the live show and family visits etc. Basically the show is now all about saving as much money as possible and it shows.

I think there’s too many survivor nerds on the show, they need people who understand the game but aren’t huge fans, not gamebots who can recite every contestant alphabetically. Also we need more diverse professions, bring back ice cream men and construction workers or just anyone with a personality, majority of players are just so bland, there’s some good casting choices but so many bores
Everyone on the show is a survivor nerd with a sob story and a huge progressive liberal. No more alpha males or big personalities. They don't cast guys like Russell or Tony anymore they hate casting white men unless the white man is a very weak petite man and usually LGBT as well. Completely agree. Born in 1999, my family watched weekly from 1 up through 40. Now, not the same game, not the same show. Now I’m 25, haven’t watched since 2020. Tried seasons 41-44, NOT any bit enjoyable compared to the actual game. Ditched the rest of the new seasons. CBS, hope you care about ratings - Best thing for 50, the only thing that will get me & my family & my wife to watch: 39 days, eliminate half of these “advantages” and bring back ACTUAL game changers or heroes & villains. Russel Hantz is top of the list. From 51 and on, stick to the original formula, and bring back players who want to win, backstab, and have fun. I’m not here at Survivor to watch a soap opera of different life stories and to see the good in humanity. I’m a youth pastor at a church for crying out loud, I go to church to see the good. I watch Survivor to see a social experiment where people play a game. Sure some moments can be lighthearted and good just like previous seasons. But I want to see people play for real. Make survivor great again.

As far as 'making the game harder' I don't think the difficulty of the game should be the act of surviving but instead the social maneuvering to A) get to the end while B) putting the right jurors on jury who will still vote for you. Yes, starving/suffering will affect your social game but for the most part the environment affects everyone to an equal amount just not to an equal extent, its all about how the individual responds. Some people show up ready to backstab, and others won't do it even when pushed. It really revolves around casting but as long as picks like Rome get eyeballs/interactions on social media, they won't change it up. Keep the content coming! If you disagree then now is the time to be even louder. Sunlight is the best disinfectant

Youre not alone Russ. I watched since i was in 5th grade. 2000 until roughly 2021ish. I had an account on Survivorsucks. Talked constantly about it with family and friends. But I cant watch anymore. Its not Survivor anymore. It was hard "breaking up" with the show. But it is not the same anymore, i have no clue whats been going on since 2022. Its going to take something big for me to tune in again.

As a long time fan for years and years, I still love it. I just think Probst is sometimes a little messed up in the head, where he likes to have all the power with the control of the game. I understand he loves the game but he needs to take a step back as producer and do the hosting to which he does best. His producer role is just hurting the show and what made it great. The last episode of Survivor I watched (besides rewatching older seasons) was Season 41 episode 1. They lost me there. Sure, I have kept loose tabs on things here or there, but I haven’t watched an entire new episode since then. Sad what it has come to. Season 50 really seems like the very last chance. If 50 fails, it’s over.
I have so much to say, but I'll try to condense it. I've watched every season and every episode since season 1, I absolutely despise what Survivor has turned into, it's been horrible from season 41 on. I'm fed-up with this new woke version, what I call the psychiatric couch version. Villains are necessary to compliment heroes. People don't remember the likable characters who have little-no real competition unless your name is Tom Westman (who still had Coby until early merge and a rivalry with Ian) or Terry Deitz (but his competition was the whole other tribe in an underdog story). I don't care if a villain gets eliminated in the early-mid merge as long as they were THERE and not overly annoying. Rome is a bad villain because he was insufferable, and not in an entertaining way. Shan, Ricard, and Omar were good villains...and then the villains practically completely disappeared from the new era if they didn't get voted out early. Everyone is so worried about how they will look on social media that they don't want to be a villain, Jeff is so worried about casting people that "he'd want to hang out with" that it's heavily curated who can make it on the show. The show now has far, far too many superfans and on top of that is so overly focused on racial diversity to the point where it isn't diverse in jobs/ways of life. This has caused production to try to curate entertainment. When the bulk of the players were either cast or didn't go much past understanding the show, the fun moments came naturally. You can't curate situations like Big Tom's "He's a Jew and he can't eat the ham" auction or Cao Boi's wild antics. You can't curate someone like Tony Vlachos going full llama-speaking Tony.
The last time I've watched Survivor was when Cochran won. After that, I kinda lost interest in the show. And btw Russell, you were the greatest to ever appear in the Show.

I watched the show religiously from 2000-2023. Then I finally quit. Never thought it would happen. I always loved survivor. It was always my favorite show. I remember going to spoiler sites in the early 2000s to find out where the next season would be. It was always captivating trying to figure out where it would be. They’ve now been on the same island for how many years now? Clearly they don’t care anymore. And the show really isn’t the same with the shortened season. It makes a huge difference in how the players play the game. Then there’s all the special Olympics casting going on and all the storytelling of how much all of these contestants have suffered we have to hear their back stories. It’s pretty much an awful show now if it was like this when it first started, I wouldn’t even have watched it for one year. It’s hard for me to imagine the show will ever come back as long as Probst is at the helm because I think he’s completely out of touch with the original survivor audience

Survivor is unwatchable anymore. Russell definitely has compelling points. NBC is slowly taking over the reality TV genre with shows like The Traitors and Deal or No Deal Island.
It really depends on the season. Some seasons are good, some aren't. It was a little better in the past, but not nearly as different as some make it out to be. Keep in mind, Russell is biased. Don't listen to these people online crying about politics. Neither party has any idea about reality. Just think about the show outside of the crying and the dorks talking about politics. If you look at it realistically then I doubt you'd see major differences. The problems are basically the change in rules, not the crying about woke, or whatever the heck that is. Russell would be on in two seconds if they called. Thy aren't calling him regardless of his politics. He could turn woke or whatever that stupid things is, and they would still laugh at him.

Where are the people you love to hate? or the people you just love? or people who just flip the game upside down? They need to go back to the basics which got people hooked on the game.
@@steviem5279 That’s why I’ve been watching SurvivorAU, SurvivorSA, SurvivorUK and SurvivorNZ….which all stuck with ‘traditional’ Survivor. To me things started to go downhill just when they started shooting all episodes in Fiji. The game play was still tough and the interesting characters were still being found…but loved seeing parts of the world one would never get to experience on their own. Then they started regurgitating the same contestants like Boston Rob. Seemed like Jeff kept bringing him back until he finally won. Then we had to see him and Sandra back….and then they lost Lynn Spillman…..and Jeff became Mr Hollywood. Then came “New Era”….a version of Survivor that warrants being on Nickelodeon. I too have seen every episode…many 2 or 3 times. I applied for the show a dozen times on line and at casting calls. I loved this show….I wanted to experience the life changing experience but it wasn’t to be. I’m currently in the age group of Rudy and FBI Joe and probably would be more competitive than they were but I could never think of being with a bunch of whiny kids. My only bucket list items that won’t be fulfilled.

some of my favorite times, were sitting on the couch with my daughter watching the show each week. She was between 12 and 15 back then .. She love Keith from Louisianna (passed now) .. called him the cat man, because of his mustache. "Stick to the plan" became something we used in general conversation. Season 19 & 20 we were absolutely rolling with Russell's antics.. Couldn't wait to watch each week! And Tony's Llama talk, had my daughter & I teared up with laughter. Didn't realize such a great show, put together masterfully, could selfdestruct so quickly... Good memories though..

You’re right about Jeff running the show to the ground. He has said he doesn’t care if people think the show is too woke now. He just adds twists to entertain HIMSELF. He is the one that prefers 3 tribes, he does CASTING, he likes twists like the HOURGLASS twist. They need to demote Jeff back to host and only host.

They got a new casting director in season 41, and that is the single biggest change they've made which is causing the game to tank. The shorter game, the lack of a live show... those changes hurt, but it's the new casting director which is tanking the show. Everyone looks different, but there is zero diversity in the cast. I've watched the first episode of the last few seasons, but haven't finished ANY of them.
interesting i didnt know about the casting director but tbh the show has just pivoted to a different style, more about the "society" and interrelationships of players nowadays.
Fr tho I feel respectfully like you not given the seasons a fair chance, ngl a lot of them the first episode nearly got me to quit watching but i stuck with it and some of the seasons were genuinely the best ive seen in a loooong time. (like 45 was memorable and whichever season with ricard, this one rn after premerge heats up)
This season I kept forgetting that Wednesday was Survivor day. I'd remember when my friends would comment on the episode, and I'd tell myself that I needed to get caught up. But I never did; and I realized that I simply had no desire to continue watching... I used to LOVE that show.

I’ve given up on US Survivor and starting watching Survivor Australia. 10 TIMES BETTER! They don’t care about all this DEI stuff and just allow for an awesome watch experience! It’s a show I can’t wait to watch every year!

41 is easily the worst season. 42 has moments, 43 is pretty good, 44 is okay but this audience probably wouldn't like it. 45 and 46 are fun but start off slow. 47 is so far pretty meh.
But yeah, new era is just missing something. Jeff has gotten too soft. The moments where the show shines now are the moments where he IS NOT soft.

In addition to what you’re saying, I want them to bring back players. Whether it be the newer players past 40 whatever. When they bring back past players it builds up the show. It builds up reps. Maybe they don’t want the big time players anymore. Idk. But I enjoy the past players coming back.

The game has turned into a dumpster fire since COVID started in 2020 and going to 26 days. The "new era" is a joke and it's all thanks to Jeff Probst.
The show went extremely woke they cast everyone with the same personality and same strategy they are all superfans and they are all there to tell their sob story of their struggles.
They no longer cast diverse personality types everyone is super progressive and they only cast different skin colors and sexualities. They hate casting white men and if they do they always have to either be very geeky and petite or they are usually LGBT because CBS and Survivor hate strong white heterosexual men like Russell and Tony.

I believe they realized during covid that they can cut a lot of costs by keeping it shorter and removing the live show and family visits etc. Basically the show is now all about saving as much money as possible and it shows.

I think there’s too many survivor nerds on the show, they need people who understand the game but aren’t huge fans, not gamebots who can recite every contestant alphabetically. Also we need more diverse professions, bring back ice cream men and construction workers or just anyone with a personality, majority of players are just so bland, there’s some good casting choices but so many bores

Everyone on the show is a survivor nerd with a sob story and a huge progressive liberal. No more alpha males or big personalities. They don't cast guys like Russell or Tony anymore they hate casting white men unless the white man is a very weak petite man and usually LGBT as well. Not saying to not cast those types but that is all they cast and they don't cast the strong alpha males who made the show so interesting in the past.

Completely agree. Born in 1999, my family watched weekly from 1 up through 40. Now, not the same game, not the same show. Now I’m 25, haven’t watched since 2020. Tried seasons 41-44, NOT any bit enjoyable compared to the actual game. Ditched the rest of the new seasons.
CBS, hope you care about ratings - Best thing for 50, the only thing that will get me & my family & my wife to watch: 39 days, eliminate half of these “advantages” and bring back ACTUAL game changers or heroes & villains. Russel Hantz is top of the list.
From 51 and on, stick to the original formula, and bring back players who want to win, backstab, and have fun. I’m not here at Survivor to watch a soap opera of different life stories and to see the good in humanity. I’m a youth pastor at a church for crying out loud, I go to church to see the good. I watch Survivor to see a social experiment where people play a game. Sure some moments can be lighthearted and good just like previous seasons. But I want to see people play for real. Make survivor great again.

If you ever listen to his podcast On Fire, you see he talks about kids as young as 6 yrs old watching. Since when is this a show for for kids that young? That's part of the problem in my opinion. Bring back some villains, bring back some anger. We need it.
Russell, love the content and appreciate your insights on the game! As far as 'making the game harder' I don't think the difficulty of the game should be the act of surviving but instead the social maneuvering to A) get to the end while B) putting the right jurors on jury who will still vote for you. Yes, starving/suffering will affect your social game but for the most part the environment affects everyone to an equal amount just not to an equal extent, its all about how the individual responds. Some people show up ready to backstab, and others won't do it even when pushed. It really revolves around casting but as long as picks like Rome get eyeballs/interactions on social media, they won't change it up.

Youre not alone Russ. I watched since i was in 5th grade. 2000 until roughly 2021ish. I had an account on Survivorsucks. Talked constantly about it with family and friends. But I cant watch anymore. Its not Survivor anymore. It was hard "breaking up" with the show. But it is not the same anymore, i have no clue whats been going on since 2022. Its going to take something big for me to tune in again.

The last few seasons have had some brutal blindsides and lots of backstabbing. It's very unpredictable which makes it fun to watch. Would love to see you come back Russell.
I haven't watched a full season of Survivor since Winners at War, or watched an episode since episode 3 or 4 of Season 41. That's how much the whole push for "the new era" disinterested me.
I literally haven't watched a survivor season since Heroes vs Villains. Best season put with the best people to ever play the game.
As a long time fan for years and years, I still love it. I just think Probst is sometimes a little messed up in the head, where he likes to have all the power with the control of the game. I understand he loves the game but he needs to take a step back as producer and do the hosting to which he does best. His producer role is just hurting the show and what made it great. Reality TV on CBS is going soft a dying breed. MTV and specifically The Challenge is the kind of drama/entertainment we deserve on Survivor but don't often get anymore
The last episode of Survivor I watched (besides rewatching older seasons) was Season 41 episode 1. They lost me there. Sure, I have kept loose tabs on things here or there, but I haven’t watched an entire new episode since then. Sad what it has come to. Season 50 really seems like the very last chance. If 50 fails, it’s over.

I have so much to say, but I'll try to condense it. I've watched every season and every episode since season 1, I absolutely despise what Survivor has turned into, it's been horrible from season 41 on. I'm fed-up with this new woke version, what I call the psychiatric couch version. I'm tired of the crying and the emotion, I want to see the old Survivor where the players were tough, where Jeff called players out as opposed to smiling and feeding into the psychosis of players, where he says come on in guys. MSGA Make Survivor Great Again.
The most loved players in all of survivor history have all been Villains. Jeff just doesn't get it and its killing the show, and if things dont change I don't see it lasting much longer.

In Russell’s first season, my wife and I quickly came to hate him, mostly because of his dog lie. That being said, he almost as quickly became 1 of our favorite players, if not my favorite player of all time

Villains are necessary to compliment heroes. People don't remember the likable characters who have little-no real competition unless your name is Tom Westman (who still had Coby until early merge and a rivalry with Ian) or Terry Deitz (but his competition was the whole other tribe in an underdog story). I don't care if a villain gets eliminated in the early-mid merge as long as they were THERE and not overly annoying. Rome is a bad villain because he was insufferable, and not in an entertaining way. Shan, Ricard, and Omar were good villains...and then the villains practically completely disappeared from the new era if they didn't get voted out early. Everyone is so worried about how they will look on social media that they don't want to be a villain, Jeff is so worried about casting people that "he'd want to hang out with" that it's heavily curated who can make it on the show.
The show now has far, far too many superfans and on top of that is so overly focused on racial diversity to the point where it isn't diverse in jobs/ways of life. This has caused production to try to curate entertainment. When the bulk of the players were either cast or didn't go much past understanding the show, the fun moments came naturally. You can't curate situations like Big Tom's "He's a Jew and he can't eat the ham" auction or Cao Boi's wild antics. You can't curate someone like Tony Vlachos going full llama-speaking Tony.

I watched the show religiously from 2000-2023. Then I finally quit. Never thought it would happen. I always loved survivor. It was always my favorite show. I remember going to spoiler sites in the early 2000s to find out where the next season would be. It was always captivating trying to figure out where it would be. They’ve now been on the same island for how many years now? Clearly they don’t care anymore. And the show really isn’t the same with the shortened season. It makes a huge difference in how the players play the game. Then there’s all the special Olympics casting going on and all the storytelling of how much all of these contestants have suffered we have to hear their back stories. It’s pretty much an awful show now if it was like this when it first started, I wouldn’t even have watched it for one year. It’s hard for me to imagine the show will ever come back as long as Probst is at the helm because I think he’s completely out of touch with the original survivor audience
Jeff said years ago that they were eventually gonna have to find a permanent home for the show and that's why Fiji is here for the foreseeable future
The show went woke they don't cast anyone who isn't extremely progressive and they barely cast white people anymore unless you are a liberal woman or LGBT white man. Diversity of lifestyles and personalities is always what made the show interesting but they no longer have that.
The show used to be interesting because of all the different walks of life coming together to work together. There were blue collar guys, white collar business men, strong alpha male types, nerdy types , big ego types, and so on. Now there are just progressive liberals who all use the same strategy because they are superfans.

New Era ruined Survivor
I don’t hate the new show. I’m watching Sn 47 with my wife. HOWEVER! I’d LOVE to see the return of people from seasons 40 on down . I miss the shelter building and food hunting . The omission of ‘Come on in, guys’ is BS, as well as ‘Let’s get it own !!!!! Is that a bit pretension or what? Still, I like the show!
Survivor is unwatchable anymore. Russell definitely has compelling points. NBC is slowly taking over the reality TV genre with shows like The Traitors and Deal or No Deal Island.
It really depends on the season. Some seasons are good, some aren't. It was a little better in the past, but not nearly as different as some make it out to be. Keep in mind, Russell is biased. Don't listen to these people online crying about politics. Neither party has any idea about reality. Just think about the show outside of the crying and the dorks talking about politics. If you look at it realistically then I doubt you'd see major differences. The problems are basically the change in rules, not the crying about woke, or whatever the heck that is. Russell would be on in two seconds if they called. Thy aren't calling him regardless of his politics. He could turn woke or whatever that stupid things is, and they would still laugh at him.
