Watching this video now compared to today and it’s crazy who much your production quality has improved, you sound a lot more unprepared and loose in this one versus now. Awesome
If you look at MO's and Jake stride in the great northern run, (4:10 to 4:56) they are both heel / midfoot striking. Mo's right legs heel strikes on an angle and his left leg alternates between the the two foot strikes. It's interesting because they are both wearing the same high cushioned shoes, 4%, but when Mo is on the track, (5:35 to 6:00) his foot strike changes and he is wearing, what looks like the streak 6, which isn't very cushioned at all. So I have found that with my own stride. I strike on the angle, but if I wear something like a hoka cliftons or an Altra Olympus I strike the heel to midfoot more like MO does, but if I wear the saucony Kinvara's or a Hoka tracer I land more forefoot to midfoot due to less cushioning. Granted I'm nowhere near mo's speed, but does anyone else out there have the same result with foot strike?
“Battling with some Kenyans... and Galen Rupp too.” Learn and say the names of the Kenyan runners. They are individual world-class athletes with their own paths to get to this race.
I would enjoy seeing an analysis of Mohammed Ahmed of Canada. He is an inspiration for me and also recently broke the Canadian national 5000m record with 12.47.20 which I think is on the top ten all time for 5000m.
good to see that someone is interested in those great runners, their analysis is a great idea, but honestly, this is very poor. You dont really get deep into technique. Stride length, very important is cadence. Why dont you compare him to guys running right next to him? You can use blue dots to mark feet touching the ground, while use red dots on other runner to see the difference in lenght. His stride looks to be longer than others, also he looks to be more hopping up and down, while others "fly" on one horizontal level trying to avoid hopping up and down. Why dont you try to count cadence, and compare it. what about other aspects of his running, hip rotation, shoulders rotation (which i find to be more visible than on other athletes who tend to run pretty streightforward) what about his feet layout (pronation, supination) where his foot land for a new stride, is it below body or more to front? angain compare to guy running next to him. etc etc. There so many thing we can look for. I am only beginner in running but i seem to know more aspoects of running which we should focus on those really great runners.
This is some really good feedback! I appreciate your comments, and honestly, I should look at cadence, at it does drastically change from runner to runner. And yes, Farah does appear to have a much longer stride when compared to other runners. As far as marking stride lengths on the screen with red and blue dots, I would need a steady camera angle to do that, and the problem is that these shots are full of motion. Pronation is also another unique aspect of Mo Farah, as his feet appear to land much on the outside just before impact, potentially affecting push off. These are all great things to look at for Mr. Mo Farah, however, please realize I wasn't doing this video to completely analyze every single detailed aspect of his running stride. I actually explain at the beginning of the video what I'm looking at, IE - championship races, tactical awareness, running economy, etc. I appreciate your comment, but if I were to go into the extreme detail you're referring to here on each of the 7 characteristics, the video would be an hour long. If I were to make a technique video, I'd title it, "Mo Farah's running technique", which would be much different than an analysis video on him as an overall runner. Keep the comments coming, but also give the overall video a contextual understanding before grading it as "poor." Happy running to you sir!
ok i understand and dont take me wrong, i liked what you did on Prefontain and Lasse Virén. And when i asked you for dots marking Mos steps, i didnt realize you are not a TV sport studio and you probably dont have the software for such analysis. Dumb me :)))
how many steps you make per minute. Mo Farah has very low cadence, yet he manage to be fastest. that means he has very long stride. which is against all theoretical advices for proper running
You should do a combo series of middle distance and long distance runners and compare them based their scores of your 70 system. Next do David Rudisha. Even though he is an 800m runner, go in depth with his racing tactics etc.
The trail runner with the most similar stride is Walmsley, who has dominated his sport: long and loping, looks effortless. Might be interesting to see you rate that. Sure, trail running is quite different, and the kick doesn't matter because the races aren't as competitive. But for beauty of stride, that may be the closest you will find to Farah.
@@shandytorok259 your time Doesnt always exactly Display suscess and Potential. There's so much that goes into each single marathon that you can't simply rank by time.

that guy your talking bad about who was running against mo farah in the 10 k is jefferey kamorer he is one of the best kenyan runners to ever live. He ran a 13.05 5 k in the last part of a half marathon in the world championships. He also has totally dominated the cross country championships for the last 5 years. His resume goes on and on. So u might want to rethink your comment. He also blew mo farah away at cardiff a year ago as kamorer fell at the staring line and still pulled away at the end of the race in 59.07 for half marathon. mo farah was a distant 3rd in 59.40....
I definitely know about Geoffrey Kamworor, I made a video about him winning the world half marathon championships last year after he fell at the start - one of the most incredible performances I had ever seen. I think he's an incredible athlete, but in a sprint finish, there's absolutely no contest as Mo is one of the best sprint finishers of all time. My comments on "the guy in 2nd place" had nothing to do with his lack of talent or running experience, rather the differences in sprinting ability. Sorry if you misinterpreted my comment about Kamworor, I'll do my best to keep negative comments neutral in the future.
Do some middling guys. It’s more inteeesting when doing a medium guy like Ryan Hill or Garrett Heath or Chris OHare or Callum Hawkins or maybe Bob Kennedy or Abdi Abdiraham
gary marasigan I’d say Rashid Ramzi from Bahrain (3:29 1500) is pretty great. And also Suguru Osako from Japan is quite impressive (just ran 2:05 marathon in Chicago). There’s obviously loads more but those 2 just jumped into my head. Thanks for watching!
Dude a 1:40:00 is a very good target time for the half. It's around 4:50 minutes per km for 21 km. That's a pretty good pace for runners doing it for personal fitness and improving their times.
Hey man, just keep working hard for it. It’s all in the training. To break any barrier, you need to train hard, but know when to take it easy. I’ve made the mistake of always going hard and have made great advances in short periods of time, but detrimentally fell apart in the long term. I have done two half marathons and even with my foolishly hard training still gone under 1:40 both times. With that said, you should know that if I can run a 1:35 while broken, you can go faster with smart preparation. Go for it!
maybe you could mention mo farah and bekele flexiblity that should go on your list that is why i think he kicks his butt when he runs every stride the same with bekele the other runners dont have that flexiblity although those other runners have great engines.
You got the whole thing wrong, just because he was given citizenship of Britain it doesn't make him British. Mohammed Farah is a Somalian and he is also one among the many terrific East African Distance runners.
I’m big fan of him but, he doesn’t get not even close to the world records in 10k and 5k!! I think that he holds the 29th best time on the 5k, its pretty disapointing!!
Farah never did a 50 second last lap. Please do your research. He never did a 51 sec last lap either. In fact he never did a 52 sec last lap either. Sloppy research. Bekele was much faster and a better kicker, but his best is over 52 secs. Elgerouge did actually run a sub 51 sec last lap in a 5000 metre race. And of course Kipchoge out sprinted elgerouge and Bekele in Paris 2003.
Farah's 1500 metre time is very suspicious. No serious runner or athletics fan takes it seriously. Why? Because at the age of 30, Mo improved his 1500 metre time by over 5 seconds. Yes, 5 seconds. Where does one find that huge amount at the tail end of a career. I saw the interview after that race, and he seemed embarassed when told the time. The fact that Mo keeps training with banned athletes and others is very concerning. The fact that Mo in 2012 and other championship years kept missing drug testing is concerning. Mo has a big whiff of being suspect.
Mo has a strong whiff of banned drugs about him. A stunning improvement at the age of 28. Hmmm. He was a second rate international till he met Salazar, who by his own admission used to travel to meets with packets of testosterone.
I'd like to see an analysis of the Ingebrigstens, they're all similar in terms of strategy/form. 3 in 1?
No doubt in my mind THE VEGAN RUNNER would get 70, please do this man next.
whos that

I like it that you bring up his arm movements. I never thought that would be detrimental to his performance, but i guess you are right.
If you look at MO's and Jake stride in the great northern run, (4:10 to 4:56) they are both heel / midfoot striking.
