Tagata Pasifika: The Hawaiians (1991 documentary)

- In 1991 Tagata Pasifika visited Hawaii to talk to some Kamaʻāina (children of the land) about being Hawaiian in the only Pacific Island state of the United States.
Deprived of their land, culture and language, Foufou Susana Hukui spoke to Native Hawaiians including fearless activist Dr Haunani-Kay Trask.
The Hawaiians is an illuminating look into the history, including the cultural and political renaissance of our brothers and sisters in Hawaii.

I lived in Hawaii for three years...my daughter was born there, but she cannot call herself Hawaiian...unlike Texas (where I'm from), if you were born in Texas, you are a Texan...no matter your race, heritage, or ethnicity...Barry White, Carol Burnett, Steve Martin, Howard Hughes, Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Farah Fawcett, Usher, Vanilla Ice, Gary Busey...need I go further??? Also, If you are born in the U.S....no matter where your parents are from...you are an American...In Japan, you are not Japanese if your parents are from another country... Yes, I know...there are the original Hawaiian people...but what about all this diversity stuff they keep ramming down our throats???? I guess Hawaii gets a pass...because most nations fight wars over what ethnicity, or race, or culture you are...but if they really believed in "Ohana" (family), then they would be more accepting...but they won't...accepting diversity is only to be accepted by a certain race...how sad...
Annexation does not compromise , you're Americans for better or worse . The rest of rhe pacific are states , colonies and territories unto themselves. Enjoy being Americans , after all , Polynesians discovered the west coast from by sea , one could say , we were Americans before Christopher and Vespucci... enjoy ..

@@poppypocket8732 what point are you making regarding Hawaii and Samoa? China is not a foot in the door, Samoa has refused to work with China and declined to not move forward with their development projects because its clearly not neccessary.
@@michaelspencer9605 yeah, that's only just recently Samoa declined to move forward with the project. Samoa doesn't need anymore debt to China.

Hawai'i's current political status is military occupation and its been that way since the illegal overthrow. This video is great and thanks for sharing but this is not accurate.
Hawaii's government was illegally overthrown, but Hawaii as a Soveirn nation was not.
The insurgents called as business men in the video committed high treason and was sentence to death by Queen Lilioukalani but was granted a parting by negotiation with U.S president Cleveland, because there was no authorization by the president to try and overthrow the Hawaiian Kingdom. The negotiation was the insurgents would be parted of high treason and Queen Lilioukalani would be restored as queen which President Cleveland called off the military.
Hawaii was the first non-European power to be accepted into the United Nations and given its Sovereignty as a independent nation. The Hawaiian Kingdom held over 40 treaties with countries in the 1800s they had a constitution before the United States and had electric elevators since the 1800s. The system of Hawaii today is the same since 1893 just the names were changed and never been updated. United States since the overthrow has committed over a 100yrs of international war crimes. There is a Provisional Goverment in Hawaii today. Deoccupy Hawai'i administer Hawaiian Kingdom Laws!
