That old sub station was a big crack dealers house in the mid to late 80s. The city seized it n built that sub station. The park across the street was crack central for mt.view in the 80s.
It seems like no matter what city in what place, the east side always is where the hood is! lol Same with Las Vegas accept it is east, north, south and most of the west that is bad. I advise visitors to stay in groups in well light areas, this place is no joke. Sad that it used to be a great place but in last few years it has gone way wrong and extremely bad.
Nice video. So many memories. I see the places I grew up in are boarded up. Surprised to see the rocket at Lions park is still there. I was there when I was a kid in the early 90s. Sad to see Brewsters gone. Red Apple, I remember when it was Foodland. Also surprised to see Red Apple stores in Seattle area.
I am enjoying your videos. I grew up at 2908 Wendy's Way in 5he 70s. Earthquake Park was my playground and a bike ride over to Lake Spenard on the Schwinn 10 speed is how we killed a Saturday. We went to Lake Spenard church which my buddy told me is now an arts center. keep the great videos coming.
That's funny because East Anchorage is so less hoody than West Anchorage. Better cars and buildings. West Anchorage is pretty much like folks waiting for buses or waiting for other sketchy folks. The sketchiest alleys in Anchorage are in Fairview in the Ghetto Carrs neighborhood. Around the sex traffic-y motels like the Black Angus and Anchorage Suites.
@@mtbikemike1 Ahhh ok. Way before my time. I didn't know the View had a safeway before. Nice. Woolworth's I miss also, for their toys and their little restaurant. Long's Drugs before it eventually became Barnes & Noble.
Most of usa is like this. Once i moved to Mexico I see people are out and about everyday. Seems homey life has become more common in the usa and people don't believe in interaction anymore
I used to live in that white apartment building that's in front of the green one back then it was blue until the new landlord bought it and evicted us for no reason because he wanted the three-bedroom place that we were in but yeah he painted the whole building White that was back in 2011 before turn into 2012
Bro idk u was on my street hoyt st I was the standing outside in the black jacket when you was looking at the boarded up house and the land cruiser across the street
No, the buds are just showing up on trees now. It stays light now till around 10 pm. It was 50 F today on May 1st, which is average for Anchorage in mid Spring.
Why doesn’t the city clean up all that junk sitting by the abandoned apartments? If there were government jobs to clean up the city I’d take it in a heartbeat ( don’t live in anchorage though)

Wow! Did not know that!
@@NuttyNu ...it was a crazy time in the 80s, 90s There was probably a crack house on every other block back then.

The Bronx is castle hill and mott Haven. Although the most of the Bronx sucks lol

Coke, weed must be expensive up there
Red Apple was a Safeway years ago. Notorious fights took place behind it with Clark J.H.S. students.
When was it a Safeway? I thought it was only ever a Red Apple after it bought out Foodland. This was I think 90 or 91 when it used to be Foodland.
@@JoeKerrAnomaly I went to Clark from 1966 to 1968. It was Safeway then.

@@mtbikemike1 no, this is a variation of joker, as in joker from Batman. Sometimes he goes by joe kerr. Say it out loud, joe kerr joker.
I used to live on that side and dang the streets really look so empty

a lot of philosophical truths on this one , Nu.
Very interesting but that bell is deafening lol
I moved out of Alaska in 1972 and Mountainview was a dump back then.
This is summertime? 🤣🤣🤣

The blooming season will come in fast in May, come back in 2 weeks, and you'll start seeing leaves on trees.

Yes
It is not. Summer in Alaska is May to September

Where do lower income Alaskans in Anchorage typically work? I wouldn't imagine they work in service, as I don't see a lot of hotels around.
Lots of jobs
