Now for the ultimate challenge, build a PC in a PS2 Slim chassis
That's impossible. Any cooler will be too large to fit. It could not get better than a micro ITX Intel Atom with like 2GB of ram and Intel HD Graphics, with some wierd external PSU.
@@Tom2404 I mean, Alienware and Zotac have gotten some insanely small form factor gaming PCs to work, admittedly using laptop hardware. Though it's crazy that Sony got the PS2 to work in that small of a form factor. Though what you said about any cooler being too big, if I remember correctly the Nintendo Switch, as small as it is, actually has fans, of course that's going into the realm of custom hardware, but there are some insanely small CPU coolers.
@@Tyler-Kearney the switch has a single heatpipe made out of copper and the fan is almost as wide as the switch itself. This thing is only made to cool an arm processor, not a powerful x86 chip. But you are right, it could be possible if you use an old laptop motherboard, if you can find one that is small enought and can be modified so it actually works outside the laptop. Maybe you could use one of those small pcs you mentioned. But it would habe to be a slow pc not made for gaming.
@@Tom2404 there are also more powerful gaming focused alternatives to the Raspberry Pi. But to modify a PS2 Slim case to fit one of those would probably be more trouble than it's worth, and would basically be a Linux based PC that is only good for emulating maybe up to a PS2. At that point it's probably be easier and more worth the money to softmod a PS3.

I remember when I was about 7 or 8 years old, the original xbox had just come out and I wanted it so bad. We didn't have much money, so I didn't get one until quite a few years later, but I still remember seeing them in the stores and the feeling of how cool it would be to have one. It's amazing how fast time goes, but nothing can replace the wonder and amazement I felt back then. Im still team xbox to this day lol.

@420Ranger_Exile no. look up pcie x16 riser. Its something that goes into the pcie slot with a ribbon cable which, on the other side, has another pcie slot so the location is adjustable.

As a sheetmetal worker and fabricator I say good job. The only thing that Mads me go "nah" was the blue dye. It's easy to see the scribe marks. If you can't see them just use a fine marker.

The more time goes on, the more I like a simple and readable config file over a graphical menu for game settings. You have much more granular control over the settings, and I have an oddball set up with a 4:3 CRT monitor using a display port to svga converter, so I have to go into config files quite a bit.
You know what I enjoy even more than config files? A proper in game benchmark that loads quickly so that I can dial in my settings before the game starts. Oh, and launcher menus so that I can fix settings if crap breaks.

PrestonLK Ya, fired mine up for the first time in forever over the weekend and the fan was LOUD. Ended up repasting the CPU + GPU and swapped the fan for the "Nexus 70mm Real Silent Case Fan" that is $10 on Amazon. Now it is nice and quiet, well, a lot more quiet at least.

Mine I think the HDD was far louder than the fan (but its not the original HDD so can't blame Microsoft), but the clock capacitor leaked so it refuses to boot at all now. :(
@@reedernick Definitely check out that fan in my comment above, just copy and paste the quoted part into amazon. and put new thermal paste on the cpu and gpu. Those two things will cut the noise in half or more.

You guys have totally gotten me back into PCs and tech in general I use to build PCs all the time when I was younger I believe the last one I built was in like 2006 and that was with all second hand parts nothing fast nothing crazy I just did it for the fun but as I got older it got harder to afford to keep building and I lost my way while I still can't afford to start building again this brings back that part of me. No idea why they didn't just buy a bending bar, but a sheet metal bender can be used on other projects in the future, so I don't think it was the worst decision. Also, 800$ isn't bad for that machine.

The controller ports on the Original Xbox are actually just funny-shaped USB 1.1 ports, so in theory you should be able to wire them up to a USB 2.0 header and use them as actual functioning controller ports.
