boss: **complains to me about having to teach a 19 year old how to mop a floor** me: lol pfft that's pathetic boss: yeah ikr, anyway, would you mind mopping the floor after your break? me: sure thing... Hello from during my break
I get anxious about the seemingly most ridiculous things. Im glad that there are videos out there that show how to properly do just about everything. Love this video. Thank you!
I’m 62yrs old. I’m glad to learn to do this right. I’ve swifferedmost of my life but now as a caregiver have to mop for my new clients this week. I was panicked. Thank you!!!
@@sgtplhcb671 Basically the same technique: to around and under things first, then figure 8 with your rag/sponge. If you keep the heel of your hand ever so slightly higher and rock back and forth in your fingertips, it'll help push larger dirt particles ahead of where you're wiping.
I remember my manager training me to sweep/mop. No need to sweep or scrub, just swirl the visible debris out of the way and when it reached the back door, make sure to fling that shit into the grass, LOL. Was it correct? Hell no! Did I get home in time to watch Robot Chicken? Absolutely! Priorities folks!
dg8708, I just started doing that same mopping technique. Mop only and fling the dirt up against hallway wall and return to vacuum it up later. Going from room to room is way to much fuk’n work. It’s also a lot faster and you won’t be there and extra 2-3 hours vacuuming every damn room. Thus far 10 months no complaints. ✅✅🍻
yeah lol one of the cooks at the diner i work p.t. at saw me mopping the way the uploader did the first time, he stopped me and said i was going to throw out my whole arm doing that, showed me the zigzag manuever.. i work at a desk most of the time so f me for not knowing better
Don't feel too bad, I'm 41 and look this up too! I've always got down on my knees to scrub the floor but that's such a hassle so I didn't do very often.
I just inherited an 18,000 square foot building working for my friends janitorial service. About 11,000 requires mopping. I divided three areas into zones. I will tackle one zone per weekend while doing the other regular maintenance on the building. Your video helped me get through the bigger, open areas. The last zone I have to move chairs out my way. But again, your tutorial helped me get it done faster. It helps to have a well-made mop head, not some cheapo version. Anywho. Thank you
Just started a new Job and i had never used one of the flat mops before (we have one of the circular ones at home) so i was really confused and didn't know how to do it properly. Plus its in a Butchers so there is like chunks of meat and big blobs of blood which are really difficult to clean. But this video really helped.
I usually hit the baseboards first so as you mop you are removing the dirt off of the corners …So while your mopping it doesn’t interfere with building dirt on the sides or splashing anything on the walls. Then from there as you mop ,you turn the mop over every 4to 5 strokes so the side that was used can dry off ,while the other side can be used😉 Then dip and rinse til you have change the water if you have too
I used to mop all the time at a job many years ago, and I got a new job at a pizzeria yesterday. They had me mop the floors at the end of the night and when I was doing it similar to this they told me to do it “the right way”… now I know they were wrong about going up and down like you showed as the wrong way
13 years ago someone gave me a massive lecture and berating about how I couldn't mop, and it destroyed my confidence in it and I avoided it, and now here I am, haha, master time
Good times that I worked as a janitor, I miss it a lot, even more that I enjoyed the job, unfortunately I walked away from professional cleaning but I'm thinking about returning.
Pinch a 3M Scotch-Brite Scouring Pad in between the mop and the handle where it screws down on to it. That way if you have to scrub out a stubborn part, all you need to do is push the pad down on to it. Learned that trick working as a janitor as a HS during graduate school.
I have been overthinking mopping and sweeping at my job since I started yesterday, I'm always afraid that I look really stupid. Thank you for this lol :)
Thanks, really useful vid. What I'm not sure about is whether to squeeze out the mop then soak it again then squeeze it out again before resuming mopping? Sometimes we get puddles of dirty water left behind. Thanks again.
I do both motions because I admittedly don't mop as often as I should. I do a back n forth "scrub" first for any dried-on sticky mess that may or may not be visible; then the side to side sweeping motion to "wipe" it all up. And of course I change the water and redo this at least once or twice. I know... If I mopped more often this wouldn't be necessary. 😅
Being a supervisor for a long time now for a cleaning company I’ve trained so many people and i think one of the funniest way i see a new worker mop stairs is they start from the bottom and mop each step going up stepping over there already mopped one🤦♂️
i feel like i'm a good mopper/cleaner but i started a new job and my boss said i need to be more harder and faster when i mop.. does mopping require that much effort? he said "take your madness out on the mop" like umm.. ok
Thank you so much for your video 😊 I use your way to do my part time cleaning job, it is so helpful. Since I need to mop a very big area of the floor with limited timing ( because I also need clean toilets, bins..etc) do you have any faster way to mop? Thanks.
When the mop head gets dirty after a few days, do you wash them and reuse or just replace them? I’m a janitor and we don’t have replacement mop heads, we just wash them and reuse. I’m wondering if that’s not the proper thing to do though.
I usually used my sink in my garage. To clean mop as I go. And I have a separate bucket with soap mix. So I don't use dirty water. the left and right motion. Is helpful. I do add drops of Clorox. And powder tide. To my mix of Lysol.
Thank God I’m not the only one who doesn’t know how to mop properly. I work at Albertsons and I used to work in the Starbucks department and I mopped every night the manager would say I didn’t. Which is so frustrated
I know it is a very rare chance for me to get a reply 7 years later but…one issue I have is that I don’t have a vacuum to use prior to the mopping. Any tips?
