You need to run it through all the gears first and find the temperature first because the level range changes dramatically with the trans temp by about 10mm and you really want to get that right. This is probably close if you're at full operating temperature after driving a while, but if you're just a bit warmed up, that level will be towards the top of the curve in the dipstick much lower. Last thing you want is to overfill and make the fluid foam up which this advice out of context could cause someone to do. There's a chart you download and refer to.
