What I loved the most about this song is the moment when it plays. You just got kicked out of the place you called home, witnessed by many people, and now you have nowhere to go. And then this song, with its nostalgic aura, comes in to offer warmth in the uncertainty that’s coming because the world is literally in your hands. A masterpiece. Simply amazing.
@@cornyshubOmg that’s such a huge compliment, thank you so much! All is going well, very excited waiting for the next Legends game where I hope they grace us with more masterpieces like this one 😃 How about you?
I mean, almost the same circumstances. You get exiled from your home due to a misunderstanding and you end up in a smaller area that you have to reside in due to that
The first note of this song is so threatening and the constant steady clangs of that instrument make the place feel like it truly is in the middle of nowhere, locked away from society, unwelcoming. Yet as the song progresses, and you learn the area it feels more welcoming and understanding, but with a hint of mystery and an ever present feeling of uneasiness
This music has an amazingly mystical and lonely quality to it. It fits in perfectly with when it takes place in the story, as well as it's location in the world. It feels like it's jumped straight of the NieR series, and that is just about the highest praise I can give.
i think I've narrowed down how to articulate my feelings for this song. When i heard this song, I didn't get a sense that I was welcome in the Ancient Retreat. the constant tolling of the bell as well as the ticking percussion made it feel as if I was running out of time. That the Space-Time Rift was going to grow more and more unstable, and it couldn't be stopped. And then I couldn't help but think of this song's relationship to Cogita, an elderly(?) woman who is among the last of her race, begrudging the responsibility her ancestors placed on her in her youth, trying to live out the rest of her life in solitude until the main character comes stumbling into her home. She's given a chance to finally fulfill the responsibilities her ancestors forced on her, a hope to relieve herself of that burden. The tolling of the bell is a classical symbol for not only the march of time, but also for the END OF A LIFE, and i can't help but wonder how much time does Cogita have left? We don't get to learn terribly much about Cogita, but the most striking impression I was given of her, her home, and this song is that of terrible loneliness, lingering regret, and the approach of death. And that is heartbreaking.
This song makes me sad. It reminds me that Volo acted like he wanted to help, but ended up using the player all along. When he took the player to the Ancient Retreat, he was just doing it to ensure the player could collect the Plates. I haven't cried over a song since N's Farewell from Black and White.
You really are alone at this point in the game. Someone with villanous intentions takes you somewhere to "help". And the new person you meet is a potential friend but already living in their own grim fate.
So, Cogita just told me that, not only does she use Enamorus to fly around Hisui, but also hinted that, although the player can care for Enamorus "for now", she plans on picking Enamorus back up when the player dies... She then also hinted that she may be the author of the Old Verses buried in the dirt, or at least personally know that author. Never ask a lady her age...but just how old is she? Is she some sort of immortal wizard?
isn’t she and volo also one of the last of the ancient sinnoh people or whatever? when everyone else died? istg there is no way she isn’t immortal and idc what Anyone says
@@josefujosta The only immortal characters I know of in this series is AZ, who gained immortality through the radiation of the ultimate weapon. If Cogita is immortal, perhaps she’s from Kalos or went to Kalos for her to get exposed to the ultimate weapon’s energy. The only other method I can think of is if Arceus themself blessed her with immortality.
If she really is immortal, then I hope that they find a way to work her into the inevitable Unova remakes. Like, after you beat Cynthia in Undella Town, maybe she calls her "grandma" and tells her that you might be a Trainer strong enough to help Enamorus quell her rampaging brothers (which activates their roaming across Unova). And then once you've caught them, Enamorus takes an interest in your strength as a Trainer, so Cogita decides to "loan" her to you like in PLA. (Hell, that might even be the reason why we've never seen Enamorus before. We haven't had the chance to catch her in the modern-day Pokémon games because she's been with Cogita all this time.)
This song is a beautiful mix of nostalgia, sadness, and fondness...but with a touch of something being off. Almost like visiting a place once called home.
Due to unfortunately circumstances, I had to leave my parents' place around the time this game came out. I found comfort in this soundtrack when the main character was banished from the tribe and offered to reside in the ancient retreat .. the feeling of living with someone else, disconnected from the people who raised you, is bittersweet.
I cried when I first heard this them when visiting the Ancient Retreat. It felt good to have a place to go, friends to help guide you and come up with a plan even when all seems lost. This song sounds like hope to say the very least.
There's something so comforting about this theme and Cogita that it's impossible to describe. It's like that feeling you get when you greet an old friend after not seeing them for so long or visiting your grandma who lives far away. Cogita is that to us, as she comforts us in our time of confusion and expected us to arrive and be greetes by her mysterious but elegant presence.
so many tracks from the PLA soundtrack are unbelievably emotional... but without being necessarily dramatic or over-the-top at the same time?! no idea how the composers come up with them so perfectly but i love it
Its been along time since I felt defeated in a game, like my boy! Imma try to put in words how I felt.... "Arceus teleported me, this black kid in unknown lands but I faintly know my way around cause I've been here before but it's not the before I know. But I'm here, I'm literally cleaning up his mess. I'm just a regular Pokemon trainer, did I think I was special? No , Do I think I'm a chosen one? No... I just care enough to get it done. I care enough to know that these people here aren't blessed with the knowledge about Pokemon like me, so what do I do I help, like mom's taught me..... But all in all.... I'm here, kicked out this new place I guess I'm calling home, with this awful walk of shame, and all I can think of is my Mareep I left sleeping on my bed wondering when I'm coming back, the last he saw was me going to the bathroom checking my phone.... But I never came back.... I wished I could have told my mom I loved her one last time.... But I'm here, being humiliated, and when I look the people who I thought were against me was really next to me my whole time, Cyllene, Irida, and Adaman.... They pick me up and dust me off, and tell me to keep going..... So what I do I can't stay down. I look at my Typhlosion wishing my original was here, but I know this new buddy of mines got my back, so we take off to finish this fight! And prove to everyone this isn't my fault, but.... But..... I know once I close this portal..... I'm never going back home..... I hope Arceus has something planned for me..... I never thought I was a chosen one...... I just wished I could tell my family I love them one last time......"
I cried at the banishment and now reading this I’m shedding a tear again. I’m not religious but it gives me very much Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane vibes. That feeling of knowing your fate but also a responsibility that must be carried out before that fate and it’s all in your hands - no turning back.
Hmm... Having not played the game for myself yet, this track seems to give off a sense of hopelessness and loneliness. With the echoing at some points representing the loss we feel when sent off on our own. How everything else just reverberates in your head, every instrument just bellowing the impact and pushing you away. But there's a path, rough and distorted but a path only you walk (as the protagonist.) Despite the hopelessness and loneliness, one can feel a warmth in the reverberating tones, a call to return home, just one final mission. I can see calming blues and determined reds intertwining here, not fighting, but driving, leading on, guiding. But the blackness of uncertainty is all around you, it's suffocating at times, when it goes quiet. The darkness peers into our sightlines. But ever onward we look, to go about our journey, to do what's right no matter who's in our way. Our minds are set. (I, as mentioned prior, haven't played this for myself so the context of when certain tracks play is lost to me but this is just what I see and feel from hearing this. It's a lovely song and just exemplifies my love for this ever growing series. It's more than just a kids game, it's an inspiration. One I'm glad to see still going strong after all this time. It's been a part of my life and I am happy to still see new and interesting things in each new region they make.)
Honestly now that I hear this theme I think it's my new favorite theme from Legends Arceus. It was the Eterna Forest theme, but this song just sounds better and gives me more of that nostalgic sound but it also gives me a sense of grief, like I just lost someone or something important which of course makes sense since it plays right after you get kicked out of your home.
Although I think the theories of Cogita actually being a time-travelled-Cynthia are interesting, I don't agree. Her character and Volo were obviously designed to help the player base understand that they're both related to Cynthia. That being said, either her or Volo (or both) had to have had a child at some point, for Cynthia to exist. There's no evidence that Cogita exists in the present games so far so I don't think she was immortal, moreso that she lived for an unrealistic amount of time to "fulfill her duty", as she was the last of her people, only to die when she completed her mission. I personally think because of her wardrobe and color scheme, she most likely is a direct ancestor of Cynthia, who also lives in Celestic Town. I think Volo might have been the lineage that died out, along with his evil intentions.
Here's the thing, though: take a good, long look around Cogita's home, and then compare it to homes in Jubilife Village and even the lil Pearl & Diamond clan tents--anything look different? That's right--hers is MUCH more modern, from the bedding to other things. I think that is very telling. Additionally, Cogita's name could be a form of, "incognito," or going under disguise. Could be why she lives mostly alone. Maybe she even wanted to positively influence Volo? 🤷♀️

Oh the happiness I felt from the wild pokemon, not a care in the world, no fear of being captured, or forced in battle... To live free as they choose fit, I only wish I'd free my pokemon if I'd known I'd be spirited away...)
