A little add-on to the first question: when my husband and I were dating, I hyper-fixated on being 'equally yoked' with him. I was so worried that one of us would be above or below the other in our relationships with Christ. So much so, that I actually sat him down and told him that I needed him to 'step up' in his faith or we'd have to break up. That obviously made him very upset and embarrassed. So we talked about it some more and long story short, I think I was full of pride in that moment. Turned out I was pretty ignorant of my own faith maturity. While I believe being equally yoked is so important, I do think there's ample room for valleys, growth points, and highs in that. Just some food for thought on an opposing side from Jaclyn's. :)
I definitely agree! I think it’s more about same values and path. We are yoked together to support one another regardless of who is “pulling the weight”. There are seasons over my 8 years of marriage where I’ve had stronger faith, and seasons where my husband’s faith was stronger. We carry each other and lift one another up as we travel this path of life! ❤
Yes girl, I just did this the other day and I recognize how my partner is stronger in his faith in more subtle ways like trusting in the lord with job and hoping to be a home owner. Whereas I might “know” the Bible he trusts the lords timing more.
i'm literally an atheist and i love your videos lol. you have such great content and i love hearing things from a different perspective. love the advice & how mature you are for your age! keep it up 🤍🤍🤍
Hey Jaclyn! On the topic of reading before bed/books - will you do a video of books you read in 2023? You did one for your 2022 reads and I would love to see one for the books you read last year! 📖
This was amazing! I love your advice and I can see how biblically based your answers and opinions are. This really helped me in the season of life I am in right now.
I’ve never been in a relationship but a piece of advice that I heard a pastor say that really stuck with me is that if you are in a dating relationship, you do not have to submit to the person you are dating or trust him to lead because you are not married and that is not either of your roles at that point. I think this is a good idea so that if you ever break up or have something happen, you didn’t cross any boundaries or add anymore drama.
Love this so, so much Jaclyn! And always love the book recs from you -- I'd love to see more book videos. :) Two I would highly recommend are Powerless by Lauren Roberts and The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware. Based off your book tastes, I think you'd love them!
Loved that this video felt like a life advice podcast! Would love to see more videos like it🩷 You are wise beyond your years & it doesn’t go unnoticed!
StoryGraph might be slightly more helpful with finding out what’s in a book before you read it! It’s not as widely used as goodreads so it may not have every book you’re looking for but there’s like an option to take like TW and other things!
Would love to see more of these! Especially as a newly married couple. My husband and I got married September 2023 and it feels as though we've just been beaten down financially (many major repairs on our home, job issues, etc.) and emotionally (deaths in the family) to the point where its causing some strain on our relationship. We also have his brother living with us and has been for the last month or two which has added an additional layer of strain to the relationship. I know that once everything settles down life will be easier but it's getting through this period that is so hard. Did you and Sam experience this? If so, how did you get through it? Always love your videos and seeing how you and Sam live your life! Thank you for sharing!
Just a friendly reminder that complimentarianism/a wife submitting to her husband as the leader of the family isn’t the only option for a Christian marriage. Egalitarianism/a marriage of equality where there is no leader over the other is a valid way of going about a marriage. And some would even say it is healthier and more biblical and Christ-like than complimentarianism. To each their own. I just thought I’d add another Christian perspective.
on my IG I have a highlight for books I loved. here's a few off the top of my head: the nightingale good girls guide to murder (series) Inheritance games selection series rock paper scissors the house maid (series)
you do need to be careful with self-proclaimed "christian romance" books. I started this book on wattpad (lol) ages ago and it said it was a Christian romance but it had cheating, explicit scenes etc in it
I’m currently in a marriage where I’m not priority in my husband’s life. He allows his older brother physically abuse me and my husband doesn’t even tell his brother to stop hurting me. I don’t want to be in a marriage that I’m going to always be the victim and be treated like I don’t matter to my husband. I’m under a lot of stress, anxiety, and want to give up on this marriage. Besides my husband and I have never had any time together alone because of his brother living here.☹️☹️☹️☹️
I’m praying for you, sweet sister! You are so loved and treasured by God and He desires joy, safety and abundant life for you! I believe that God wants to rescue you from that situation and show you that there is still something better for you in this lifetime! If that feels hard for you to believe right now, I pray that your faith will be strengthened and you will see yourself the way that God sees you❤ I would look into nearby centers that support women experiencing domestic abuse and see how they can help you find freedom.
What are some books you would recommend that are not explicit? I used to be a reader when I was younger and now that I’m a mom I want to get back into it.
This is golden!!! I genuinely thought it was a shot in the dark to submit a question, but clearly God wanted to answer me, soooo I’m going to reveal and say that I asked one you answered. I have already made forward steps, but the fact that everything you said was all that happened and all that I paid attention to is beyond crazy to me. God works in such amazing ways!! He showed me that trusting in Him is so much better and, honestly, watching this video has made my confidence in my decisions increase in the best way! Thank you so much, Jaclyn!! 🫶👏
This feels like a podcast and I am HERE for a Jaclyn Brooke podcast 🩷🩷🩷

that's a great point too! I think keeping in mind that we all fall short, and that we have our weak spots is important!
