I know this is a few years old , but you have the most concise and easy lesson out there on this song. Iv'e checked out at least 5 other lessons on this and found only a couple that play it correctly , but you break it down very nicely and easy to follow. Thank you!\m/
The second 'note' is A string at the 5th and D open together, with the fretted D bent slightly sharp to make it honk a bit! Jimmy himself has explained this :-) Good video
Good job. Thanks Andy. I used to play 20 years ago for about 10 years. Sold all my gear but am looking to get back into playing again. Keep up the good work!!!!
Disappointing that not a lot of people bother to demonstrate the dissonant bend on that 2nd D note of the intro. While playing that D note, bend it up toward the low E while striking the open D of the 4th string at the same time. It creates a cool dissonance that is released when you go up the E power chord.
just came across your channel now - first one I watched - subscribed to check out more - add "Pro" on the end of your Standard and we have pretty much the exact guitar - Honeyburst is my favorite
Hi Andy, I am loving your guitar lessons, I want to learn this riff, I have just bought a Blackstar ID Core AMP :) Can you help me with the settings for the amp for this ? I presume it is on the clean setting, but does it need any effect I have on my amp ? Many Thanks Richard
This was awesome. I broke down this song that I've been wanting to play for quite some time! Thanks to you... Do you know how to do Prince "Lets Go Crazy"? I'm subscribing to your title and Channel right now
Ok, so basically, just practice. You might not get it the first time, and that's fine. Practicing makes you better, and getting better at this makes it easier.
Trying, not easy when u work 45 hours a week and go gym everyday and have 100 different things that need to be done... believe me if I had more time I would.
Ya, if you're too busy, it's not the right hobby to take up. Guitar takes LOTS of dedication. LOTS of repeats. Those guitar masters have spent THOUSANDS of hours (no way around this no matter how genius savant you are). It really is a young kid's sport where you can dedicate your "huge free time" teens ramping up to a proper level. As a working adult, it's too slow going and most give up from lack of proper time/frustration. If you want to give it a "cheap go" for shits & giggles, get Rocksmith 2014 for the Xbox/PC/Playstation and buy a highly rated $100 Strat from Monoprice. It's by far the easiest, fastest way to fully learn some cool riff songs. It's really an amazing piece of technology that I use every day--so much fun for this working adult (check out the 14 Day Rocksmith Challenge here on YT--it's no joke & not a toy like that other game with the plastic guitar).
+Pop Ryan I'm greatfull for the incourigment and funny thing is my dad's being playing guitar for 20 years, trouble is he's still pretty shit at it xD... and plus we don't even like each other never mind sit down together and let him try to teach me...ahh it was a good thought but I'll think I'll stick to guitar hero :)
Wrong, my friend It's a lot tougher than that That second note, the D is doubled, he bends up to it and doubles the D I did it this way for twenty years till I learned the right way
Bend the a string up - in a way that you aren't muting the D string - so that you have "D is doubled". Tbh you can play it however you want, most people believe you're better off doubling the D rather than just going from the 7th on the E string to the 5th on the A string. But jimmy has played the riff in various ways live. I reckon he does double D on the album
I know he uses a wah on the solo but more as a filter than a wah wah sound, like he doesn't move the pedal up and down its just held at a certain position.

Nice comment
Thanks for showing us the beginning of Whole Lotta Love, you’re really good on teaching guitar. 😊🎸
Brilliant this for an absolute beginner as you always breakdown which strings to strum as quite a few other UA-camrs don’t ! Thanks!
never thought of this riff andy its quite easy once you get it started thanks for the vid
Good job. Thanks Andy. I used to play 20 years ago for about 10 years. Sold all my gear but am looking to get back into playing again. Keep up the good work!!!!

Another great lesson - thanks Andy
everything looks so difficult utill you break it down. then I try and it's not that easy lol
Story of my fricking guitarist life right there lol 😂😂😂
Das geht ja ab, du kannst super spielen. Ich liebe Oldies.

Jimmy page plays the a and d with one finger at the 5th, he bends the a string a little sharpe.
Yes, absolutely right, Chris. It's precisely these little, but crucial details that made Jimmy Page an all time great, instead of a good guitarist.
Excellent lesson. Thanks Andy.
Hi Andy,

It helps me a whole lot
This was awesome. I broke down this song that I've been wanting to play for quite some time! Thanks to you... Do you know how to do Prince "Lets Go Crazy"? I'm subscribing to your title and Channel right now
I'm so tired of people telling me things are "easy", when they're patently not. "Easy" is subjective.
+jacko717 True. This is fairly hard to play fast, but slow it down and it is fairly easy
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Awesome!
must be awesome to be able to play guitar...

ben brewer he's sick at gutair
Wrong, my friend
It's a lot tougher than that
That second note, the D is doubled, he bends up to it and doubles the D
I did it this way for twenty years till I learned the right way
bent from where?

I think it sounds fine either way, besides, this is still a channel to get people on their feet
Good enough.
thx m8
Is it use a special tune ?
What are you strings are you power-chording???
What amp are you using Andy? It has a nice growl to it.

tysm I wish I could subscribe harder!
which effect are you using for this song?
He's using overdrive
Is he using any pedals for this? I just started guitar and can't tell if he is.
I know he uses a wah on the solo but more as a filter than a wah wah sound, like he doesn't move the pedal up and down its just held at a certain position.
'Excellent....-:))
