Rhetoric = 3 things = 1. Ethos (authenticity) + Pathos (emotion) + Logos (Logic), authenticity = say the truth, emotion = say story, Logic = say research, good video Alex
I know Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the password. I love any tricks you can offer me
@Drew Thomas Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
i am a kid and i am in year 8 i love watching your videsos because in class we where learning ethos pathos and logos u exaplained and gave me more idea thanks a lot
I love the incorporation of these philosophical principles. Learned about and used it first for persuasive essays and now im just loving how it parallels into public speaking!
As a person who struggles to get their point across, I genuinely feel like this video was a great description of how to invoke these three rhetorical devices into essay writing and public speaking. I hope to excel at my current English 3 class (critical thinking and argumentative writing). Thank you for this short but effective way of explaining ethos, pathos and logos.
Thanks a lot I learnt that ETHOS , PATHOS AND LOGOS : are three principles to persuade and convince listeners, as well as to influence others . Ethos :refers to personal credibility as speaker, as a speaker u should establish yourself as a credible and trustworthy speaker. Pathos: refers to emotional proofs or reasons to believe in something...as a speaker u should use stories, vivid language to influence them by feelings , passions and personal values .... Logos: is a rational and logical proofs , serve to provide clear and logical reasoning to support your arguments....
Thanks for making this video it was really helpful. My teacher send us a powerpoint and there were notes but I kind of understood it but not exactly. With this video it actually helped me out a lot and you made it so simple :)
I enjoyed your Presentation on Ethos Pathos and Logos. I have to do a 8 minute persuasive speech, my first one. My class is Presentation Skills: Advocating for Change. You made it sound so simple
You're a life saver. At first i dont know how to make a speech with those 3 (ethos, pathos, logos). I have an assesstment coming in this week and you really helped me. Thanks for this great video.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm actually using this to help me write an essay for my English class haha. also I love your bass in the background :)
After going through rereading my topic and rereading my notes, this video has been the best understandable teaching I was able to comprehend. Thank you! Now I don't feel so anxious about getting a better grade on my next assignment this coming week..
Thank you, searched and found your channel. This means so much, I’m a new Life insurance agent and finding that my ethos and logos marketing and advertising only are missing the mark ,but included with pathos ,which is the only way, sadly, I came to see the importance of what I promote and how I can engage people. Regards!
Your explanation was very simple and much more understanable. Good work. Could you please kind enough to mention a short speach that I can found all of these ethos, pathos and logos included.
Almost every speech out there would demonstrate elements of all three of these. Some speeches might succeed more than others but these concepts can be used to analyze most speeches.
Recall from the video, Alex. Aristotle said 3 things about presentation and communication. Ethos, Pathos and Logos. Ethos = your credibility as a speaker, why should people listen to you! Pathos = touching listeners' heart, by telling stories. Logos = evidence, you show this by telling facts, research etc.
Thats great. But do we have ethos in health bruchores and videos for example where the writer or the speaker do express their credibility. How ethos is represented? I can find pathos and logos but what about ethos?
Very informative video. Suggest how can we practice ( writing or in oral thought exchange) ethos, pathos, and logos in a non-friendly environment(or on our own without any second person). Love from INDIA🇮🇳
Those are good ideas. But, I think it would be best if you made those connections for yourself since they are rather specific. And, hello from New York state!
Hi...Love this video. Thank you. I am a comms professional and agree with everything you have said. However, in a recent post on LinkedIn, a person posted that " ❌ Don’t begin by telling them how important you are, citing your experience, qualifications and certifications. We’re often tempted to justify why we’re there by outlining our invisible badges and ribbons. This rarely works." followed by " I emphasise the pathos element because the academic and technical people I work with often focus on ethos. I agree, though, all of Aristotle's three elements are required. Sometimes we can *show* ethos without having to *tell* people our CV.". I was looking to see what your thoughts are as a communications professional/practitioner/presenter/Phd Candidate who has done many presentations, I'm not sure how you establish credibility through pathos. Your thoughts?
Hi, Kate. I'll do my best to answer this. Different people give different advice. That doesn't make it wrong either way. Still, I think I'd have to see the post in context to really know how to respond. I don't advocate beginning by telling people how important I am (nor do I recommend it). I always start with an attention-grabbing story, statistic, series of questions, etc. Still, somewhere in the introduction, speakers have to answer these questions that is in my minds of listers, "Who is this person? Why are THEY the person talking about this? Why should I listen to them?" Those are legitimate questions the audience wants answered to reduce their uncertainty and put into context what a speaker is saying. The idea of telling people our entire CV sounds very boring to me. I personally cover my own background in about 3 sentences in the middle of my introduction. It goes by very quickly and it never sounds like a justification for begin there. I share the 2 or 3 most relevant aspects of my background as it relates to the specific talk I'm giving and my audience. I've seen people get stuck in their intro telling their whole life story, CV, every award they've ever won, the fact that they were the class president in high school, etc. and that's too much. As far as using Pathos to establish credibility, I have no advice on that. Ethos is the only part of ethos, pathos, logos that I've ever heard associated with credibility. That's just my point of view. If I'd been able to read the entire original post, maybe the information would make more sense to me.
Hi Alex, Thank you for this wonderful video. I was wondering that a speech should have these 3 pillars, however, there could be speeches e.g. informational ( fact based) where story may not be always feasible, what so you suggest to have emotional connection with audience
I think short stories enhance informative speeches a lot. They can be great ways to illustrate ideas clearly even if you're not trying to persuade people. You still want to be memorable and stories are memorable.
Credentials are not the only ethos and actual a poor substitute. Your experience and accomplishments are your ethos. Just having a degree does not make you qualified.

@Drew Thomas it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account !
What are your thoughts on enhancing your ethos, pathos, and logos in your own presentations?
I need to make sure I speak the truth, present my facts and have plenty of supporting details to back my claim
White people should enlist it to moralize their existence

Good presentation sir
Thanks....best explanation.....
Glad it helped.
Very informative presentation. Do you have a presentation on creating a speaking platform from a motivational book?
Sir what is one of best in ethos, pathos and logos for a presenter
You need all three to be persuasive, really. Strive to develop each of the three areas of your presentation.

I have a question in my communication paper, the question is that,(According to you ,which one is most important to employ in speech?)
You should go by what your teacher or the book says. I don't have a "right" answer for you for that. Sorry. I think they are all important.
ty for the info. I learned more stuff than from school.
Glad it was helpful, Alex.
