The boys were contestants in Tawag Ng Tanghalan--the Call of the Theater in English (TNT). After the show was over and winners were declared, 4 of them were invited to a show. One, the champion, didn't make it to the show but the 3 did. The host challenged them to sing and they were so good together so the TNT Boys were formed. Imagine if the champion made it to the show!!
If I remember correctly, all four of them including the champion were able to be on the show (called Gandang Gabi Vice). Unfortunately though, the champion is not in the best state (I think he had sore throat or a slight cold), so when Vice Ganda (the host) challenged them to do at impromptu sing off, only the three boys were able to participate, and they did it brilliantly. That clip went *viral*, and that's how TNT boys started.

There is a so called, inborn music hearing talent. Where you can identify sounds and make another sound to blend with the original sound and so on and so forth. Hard to explain, how? But, that is inborn talent. That is not necessarily thought in the school. But, a talent that is in you and can also be improve for the better. Not everyone has it. ❤

9:58 omg experienced it first-hand. i went to the philippines with a filipino friend whose family is still living there and one weekend they had this outdoor karaoke with relatives and other people from the neighborhood and i thought i'm not a bad singer, i've held concerts in the shower so i was feeling pretty show-off-y, but while the adults were drinking and storing liquid courage, the children were having a go and boy! can they sing! children singing beyonce, rihanna and chris brown and they were reaching the notes and doing the runs, i felt like i was watching The Voice. The adults are no different, maybe around 15 people had their turn and 13 can sing like magic. You might guess the talent must run in the family, but no, most of them are unrelated, just neighbors and friends. I'm starting to believe in the conspiracy that there must be something in the Philippine water.
In the philippine they have a tv show for the kids ,singing contest ,and they joint ,but if you fail need to practice well, and everybody's could sing on caraoke..to practice the voice.
They are actually in the same batch as Dimash in The World’s Best! They’ve become even better as they grew up. They have a better version of this already! The harmonies are even smoother. I don’t know anymore how to describe them but as musicians, I’m sure you’ll understand when I say that my stank face is always on during that performance. It’s that good! I hope they get more opportunities now though. It was hard during the pandemic since they were minors.
it's not just karaoke bars you guys. karaoke bars only got really famous and common for like just a couple of years back. what filipinos have are literally karaoke machines at their homes and that's why a lot of filipinos get to practice their singing because they don't even need to go out. if you visit, a lot of filipino households got their own karaoke lol

In the Phil aside of having karaoke everywhere every parties theres a lot of singing contest local, national in different categories kids, teens, adults. Starts singing at an early age. After winning in a national competition they were sent to compete international. Singing contest is the training field of most professional singers here. Try to watch Philippine Kids Nailing English Songs ( The Voice Kids). Darren is one of them.
By the way, I hope you guys have been advised to bring lightweight and light-colored clothing when you go to the Philippines. If you’re going in March it’s the start of summer there so hot and humid will be the norm weather-wise. If you have any handheld battery operated or rechargeable fans, bring them too. Bring extra face masks, not just because of COVID but the pollution. Drink lots of (bottled) water while you’re there to avoid dehydration (you’ll likely sweat a lot. Again, hot and humid). Try to bring a small face towel with you (did I forget to mention it gets hot and humid and STICKY?), especially if you’ll be outside air-conditioned areas. Pre-pandemic, I used to go to Manila every year in December to spend the holidays with my mom. I’d get there, take a (lukewarm, nearly cold) shower and sometimes not want to get out of the shower coz I could already start to feel the sweat forming. And that was during one of the cooler months of the year there!

They are actually rivals from a singing contest. You know whats funny? It started as a joke, they were once interviewed and the host put them on an on-the-spot performance where they would sing a line whenever the host POints at them. It went viral and they started to sing as a group since then.
Most singers in the Philippines doesn’t have vocal training…😢 coz it’s expensive. What they have is they karaoke most of the time.

The raw talents are there but there are composers with formal education who scout for these talents.
We normally grew up mimicking what we see and hear, not everybody can afford to be trained vocally 😅
