Till is a genius. Most of his lyrics can have multiple interpretations, that's why he doesn't like talking about it. He did talked about Klavier though: ”Klavier” is my favorite song on the CD. It’s about the passion and madness of a killer. I’ve been working on the text for two years. It began as a harmless romantic love poem to a piano teacher and then evolved into the grotesque and surreal.”.

Still love this song and the arrangement. That was the first song that really shows Till's real ability as a singer.
It's always interesting what you get out of the lyrics and the song. I haven't thought of an abuse. It's so great how many different interpretations one single song can offer.

I view this as the lyrical "I" being a stalker. He was fascinated/obsessed by her playing, thinking she was playing solely for him. He kills her because he discovers that he means nothing to her. Her body was kept at the piano The woman's father and mother bang on the door to discover that he's killed her.

most likely, he suffocated her. .... "And when MY play began, SHE 'held her breath'"

It's about a relationship with a woman, and she diidn't play for him alone, means she has somebody else. And he took revenge.

My interpretation is that the ‘klavier’ or ‘piano’ is a metaphor for the relationship of the singer and the woman, she ‘plays’ for another man (cheating on him) so he locks her up (also could be a metaphor for cutting her off from other people) but she dies in this prison as the singer is now insane (presumably because of the emotional torment of discovering her cheating) which eventually gets the singer discovered to be a murderer which causes the parents to find out and he is arrested. Now he tells them his side but they know he’s either not being rational or that he is not telling the truth.
Perfect song from meaning to sound. It’s easily one of my favourites.

Thank you for the evaluation of your thoughts! I was also twisted around a couple of times when I heard this song first.

Man, you must check the lyrics in German. I think the translation is misleading. He says "Doch es hatte nur den Schein sie spielt für mich allein" => "It only seems that she played for me alone", or more literally, "there was only the appearance that she played only for me" -> but she also played for someone else. Also, he says "wenn ihr Spiel begann..." => "when her performance began...", but he says: "Als mein Spiel begann..." - "als" instead of "wenn", for "when". This interesting because "wenn" in the past is used for events that happened several times, whereas "als" is used for events that can only happen once. So her performance was to play the piano - it happened several times, and his performance was to murder her - only once. I may be wrong, but my interpretation is that it is a guy who killed his girlfriend because she cheated on him, or he thought she did. Remember that he says "Sie sagte zu mir, ich bleib immer bei dir" ("She said to me, 'I will always be with you'").

ya boi keep on the good work, reaction channels are usually just cheap attempts at capitalizing on a popular video, but you actually offer a valuable opinion and point of view

I begin to love your reactions. As a native German speaker I never came across the idea of an abuse in this song :D
lol, You also can "hold your breath" (figuratively) when you`re in awe. So he "loved" her and loved listening to her playing.
Plus, there`s a tiny but important flaw in translation I think, the other line rather is : It merely has the appearance she`s playing for me only, (to please only him, and it`s in present, right now before his eyes in his memory), means she played for others too and he became jealous. He turns the tables and performed his play, he killed her. When his play begun, she helt her breath (literally).
The parents look for her. When they see him killing her they scream, then he hears the mother pleading him to stop, the father is hammering at him. (Also vivid in his memory)
That he`s delusional is no question, did he do it out of real jealousy and was she his lover or was he a stalker and was she a piano teacher, is. (at least for me)
Till likes to write his poetry in mysterious ways and old fashion manners like Kant, Goethe, Schiller did or even Shakespeare`s style bc his old English still was much more aligned to German than English is today.
    👌👍

I think, it's a love story. He was fascinated by her and she swore her love for him, but she cheated on him (its only seemed, she loved only him). He killed her in anger. He hold his breath by fascination and she because she was dead.

They all had a good relationship with their parents but Till and Richard, mostly Till though who was indeed abused by his father (and at the swimming school). His mother was against corporal punishment but she always made excuses for his father. His relationship with his mother is better today.

      That sounds very made up.
Do you have a source for the fact that Till was abused?
Till lived alone with his father for almost a year at the age of 19. With his history, he probably wouldn't have done it.

@@tosa2522 A specific source no, but he talked about it in a few interviews, notably that he still has nightmares about him and can't forgive him. If you read his father's book you can see the abuse in it too and there's an interview with Till at the end where he explain that a lot of things in the book are sugar coated by his father. His reason for leaving at the end? Because his father started to beat him once again, Werner told him "I will finish you off" and "you can't beat me anymore" was Till's answer. Very interesting book, even more so with Till's interview about it. He also talk about some things that happened to the swimming school in an interview with Metal Hammer. He also said in an interview with Lagerfield about repressing memories from his childhood. And then, Paul's quote about Till from Rolling Stone, 2001: "We’re lucky to have a man with life experience at the front. He went through things that none of us want to experience. Very bad things, but they are of use to us now.”

another interesting tidbit: Recently in Germany, the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung came out with a special application, where 10 writers, musicians, and artists turned to their dead fathers, wrote letters to them. My mom gave me a read. And I always come back to this thought, I think, what would I say if I could write a letter to him now.
Very interesting project. Quite unexpectedly, he made a serious daily socio-political newspaper. To write a letter to your father, with whom you will never be able to talk, is, of course, a story about forgiveness, about memory. Can you forgive? Can your inner child grow up, accept and release? Very interesting stuff. And I, of course, it caused a special interest for me. I honestly asked myself if I could take part in this project, and honestly answered that I was not ready. I would refuse. I can’t even start this conversation with my father.

hhhhhmppffff - I´ve got a tip via youtube for this fucking, amazing album "Klavier" - not available in Germany or in Europe - only in Argentinia. There are classical Rammstein Songs played on piano. The ending sequence from Deutschland should be from this album 🤔
