Beautiful video. I never realized how much the core of Animal Crossing and even my way of playing has changed. I think I unintentionally dropped New Horizons because I never felt like I could do something creative with my island. When I look back on my childhood and my time spent in my town in Wild World, it was mostly going around, talking to the villagers, catching some fish, getting some coffee, listen to K.K. and just enjoy the vibes of the game. Nowadays I feel like I have to be productive every minute of my life and that was kinda reflected in the way I played New Horizons. (Tbf the game itself with its Nook Mileage rewards is more goal-focused now aswell.)

Omg I agree with you wholeheartedly! I used to just turn the game on at my favorite time of day with the best music and walk around, talking to villagers and seeing what crazy stuff they said. Even in New Leaf I'll stay up past 1am because that's my favorite hour theme and just, walk. Enjoy the night sky and the sound of my waterfall.
New Horizons, contrary to what it says it wants to be, doesn't feel like a relaxing island getaway, it feels like chores I'm always avoiding 😭 especially with the tool maintenance... I hate crafting in any game, having it shoehorned into my favorite series is the worst to me.

I loved this video, I feel so blessed of discovering this channel. Today’s the last day of the year and I was more conscious about how I play animal crossing, I decided to celebrate the new year in the game and that made me realiced that I play in a way not many people do. I’ve been playing new horizons since 2 years ago and haven’t time jumped of focus in the aesthetic of my island but play as it is intended. I have only filled the museum with sea cratures and fossils. Today I made my fist snowman and catched a new bug and rebemberd the joy of just playing the game.
Thanks for your video, so insightful ❤

I think that with how frustrating he can be, a key point of Resetti's character is overlooked- that while he is harsh, it is not out of spite but out of concern. Resetti's brother older Don provides a lot of insight- he always comes to say his brother has anger issues, but is well-meaning. Sonny was a resetter himself ("how do you think our family got our name?") and cares enough about players to not let them make the same mistakes. It's also clear when he's off the job he is much friendlier (he apparently has a wife and kids) and by New Horizons he can finally take some time for himself. He didn’t have a "change of heart" like people say, he had a change of temper.

I always tought Resetti was the most creative and funny character of AC, even more iconic than Isabelle and Tom Nook. I understand why some people think he is scary when they are a kid, but growing up is clear to see he really isn't a bad guy.

I remember Mr. Resetti making me cry once as a kid. I always took things too hard, especially while growing up in a somewhat chaotic household. But after that day, I tried to look at him in a different way, and I found he’s just a guy trying to live and teach us a good lesson about life. It breaks my heart that he’s not around to teach that anymore.

    “He ruins the wholesome vibes!”
Bruh, game one you’re immediately met with near-homelessness and then are promptly put into a debt that seems impossible to get yourself out of as Nook playfully threatens to send his goons after you if you don’t repay your loan. Resetti scared the crap out of me, but so did a lot of things in that game.

Fun Fact, a rumor went around in the early 2010s that in the European version of Animal Crossing City Folk (aka Let's Go To The City) after you reset 50 times Resetti would actually erase your data for real. In case anyone reading this comment was like me and believed it for a long time, I just wanna say that the rumor has been proven false. Felt like this fun fact was appropriate to say, considering the topic of the vid.

I can appreciate him now as an adult, but as a kid who hated being shouted at and not being able to explain my side of an argument, i hated that mole with a passion. I don't hate him as a character but I hated dealing with him as a kid and he made me angry and once I was forced to reset my town cause I was stuck in that apology loop and was so mad. I am glad he's not a forced interaction cause I can appreciate him more without getting reprimanded for small mistakes and concious decision to try to undo mistakes and I do appreciate this sentiment a lot. I like to save my hard work and the customization but sometimes I can't come up with enough ideas to finish an idea with a town

I used to be absolutely terrified of Mr Resetti because I usually saw him thanks to my older sister not being willing to let me get back home before saving and would shut the gamecube off to get her turn.
This came to a head when she decided to do that when I was visiting another town.

I had gone back to play the original version of AC on the GC and had a fun time with it. The difference in dialogue was so crazy that to me, the series went from being part of a community to owning said community. Everything feels so shallow now because the newest entry prioritizes customization way too much that the Villagers have no agency to the point where you can just call them in the middle of the night and have them come over to the Resident Services building in their PJ's and they'll be like "ok!!! you can change my house location/redecorate my room!!".
If it were the GC version, the villagers would be FURIOUS if you did that.

I don't even remember what exactly I did to get him to show up, other than you know, resetting my copy of Animal Crossing: Wild World without saving. I think needless to say, that little mole scared me into remembering to save from there on out.

I didn't expect this video to get so existential all a sudden, damn. "We blink and our childhoods are over. We breath and suddenly we're adults." As someone who's turning 20 next year, sentences like that have never rung truer. How I desperately want to go back, want to do it all over again but... Yeah. Resetti's right. 5:55 YES, finally someone else says it. I hate when people that have never played animal crossing until New Horizons, which is a lot of people, are like, Finally I understand Animal crossing. No you don't. That game is so insanely far off from every animal crossing besides New Leaf. At least if your first was New Leaf, you kinda get the point. I hear people throwing around, "Oh well, Animal Crossing is better now because they have gone down the cozy route", or "Animal Crossing should be this way, It's the original cozy game. No,No,No. Old Animal Crossing had such charm and was at times disturbing. I genuinely think Animal Crossing teaches children how to live life, and prepares them for some of the challenges whilst also providing an escape. Mr. Resseti was a key part of this and a key part of the humour of this game.

I remember I got resseti come up relatively often but I hated him because I never meant to reset or turn of the power I just travelled a lot as a kid and its hard to keep a DS charged while travelling if there wasn't the right moment to save I couldn't so it was annoying to get yelled at for something that was really low on my priority list. Plus the amount of times my parents turn the thing off not realising that I hadn't saved. I didn't realise that there might be kids who wanted to erase their mistakes mainly cause I don't think there are any mistakes you can make in animal crossing that are bad enough to warrant trying to get rid of them. Rather then mellowing him and the other characters down I just wished that they would listen to our side of the story.

Honestly, I have trouble making every minute of my days count, even when there are things I *have* to do. That's just kind of how life is, and how difficult it will be to manage your time, and do something valuable (and what you find to be valuable) ultimately depends on where you are in life and your background.
Video games tend to not be like that. They often don't move on without people playing them. Unless they're regularly updated or are online multiplayer, generally single-player experiences are adjusted to how the player does, and only what the player does while playing. Usually, when I reset a game, it's only if I've managed to beat the game and have reached a point where I can't go back and try anything else again or find anything I missed. Otherwise, in certain games like those made in RPG Maker, I would instead resolve to create multiple save files (and try to remember where I was at each one) to spare myself the time to replay the whole game to see what would happen if I made a different choice. And while games have tried to make choices matter in more recent years, if you can save and make multiple files before making certain choices, they don't matter THAT much, do they?
And this reflects on your point about Resetti. People play games for various reasons, but regardless of the reasons, video games are but a work of fiction, much like television shows, movies, books, and such. They may have some insight into our world, or provide us some creative inspiration OR teach us something we want to try... But a lot of games don't try to do that. They can only make the time pass by, and they are only of value if we see them that way. And time passes by, whether we want it to or not. So going through all that playtime when every choice does matter, especially if the in-game world moves on without you constantly affecting things as the real world does, do they still have value if we reset it all and try again? We can't do that in real life.
And to think Resetti was on Hated Characters lists for nearly a decade on UA-cam, when I was growing up.

Mr. Resetti & Tom Nook are unsung heroes that teach younger people responsibilities in a very reasonable way. It's an ironic shame they are so hated. Everytime I have reset a Animal Crossing save, I have regretted it. It leaves me unable to pick up the game again for years, so I have just stopped resetting.
Then again, I take these games real slow. I am in no rush to unlock everything, I just open the game up sometimes and go through the routine, maybe do a few changes here and there.
People should stop comparing themselves to other people on the internet, its such a massive waste of time. Hell, social media is a massive time waster and it is why I don't use TikTok, Facebook etc... UA-cam is the closest thing to social media that I use, but here I have mich netter control over what I watch.
Besides that massive tangent, people should learn to slow down a little. Animal Crossing ain't a design contest, its a relaxing, casual life sim

I think one of the nice things about acnh is that it’s taught some of the same lessons in a different way. Now we’re learning the hard way haha. It definitely encourages the mistakes of perfectionism, control, comparison, and fixating on productivity but at least we can make them in a fairly safe environment! Thankfully the game still has a lot of that slow-paced, appreciative way of living within it. I’ve been hearing more youtubers talk about how they are trying to let go of some of the stress and pressure and appreciate those parts of the game more. Some of the challenges people have made more recently include aspects that clearly reintroduce the values of the older games, like appreciating the people around you and not judging on first impressions. It’s interesting that many people are still learning the same lessons from this game even though it’s changed to reflect different priorities now! But I do think it’s a shame that they’re lessons that have to be dug up over several years rather than ones that shape the entirety of the game. There’s plenty of decorating games, the style of the original games is more unique imo and I’d love it if they revisited it!

    • @EmL-kg5gn
      @EmL-kg5gn 9 місяців тому +1

Actually I disagree with myself a bit. It’s easy to criticise the new games as having flaws and superficiality that make it harder to learn the core lessons but I think the old games taught us lessons the hard way too. You didn’t learn to appreciate some of your neighbours without lots of time and effort and here we all are years later just beginning to understand Mr Resetti. Also the anxiety I felt about playing every day so I didn’t lose my favourite villager was no joke 😅 I still haven’t learnt to let people go!!
Maybe we’re just learning different lessons. It’s not like they didn’t know they could include bulk crafting or make items line up and colours match better, I wonder if they chose not to. Or maybe they didn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ but either way it does force you to give up on efficiency and “perfection” in a way that most decorating games don’t. And sure it’d be good if the villagers had more dialogue, but it’s arguably harder to make meaningful friendships these days (not to mention during the pandemic) and it’s good to practice appreciating the interactions we do have! It’s not just close friendships that are important to our wellbeing, acquaintances are actually crucial too!!

I remember when Animal Crossing released. I was 9 at the time and accidentally turned off the gamecube before the save completed. Went to play it later on and got Resettied.
He scared the absolute scat out of me. Not only were his words harsh and the music disturbing, but right as I was about to reset the console again to avoid him I had hit A and he said his line about "Don't you dare think about resetting again, cause I'll be back." or whatever.
The fact that he looked at US instead of our character, and said that convinced me that the game knew what I was thinking and doing. I couldn't sleep for a week and forced my mum to return the game for something else. Didn't play it again until I was about 12 or 13. God, that was awful.

This video is absoloutely incredible. So in-depth to a franchise that is so loved. So well explained and so weirdly touching. ❤

this was such a great video! it definitely relates with my feelings about new horizons. the only earlier ac games I’ve played are new leaf and a bit of wild world, but i feel that new horizons lacks the charm and original feel of the older games, you know? and this is also a great way to look at resetti, just really enjoyed this video all around :)
