Many thanks for the video, very well explained (as a beginner ’m still in the get into a bonsai pot ASAP at the moment, I’ll grow out it hopefully), I take on board your comments regarding patience. With regard to the first tree which will be Shohin in the future, typically the sacrificial branch is removed in one go. My question is in order to strengthen lower branches, thicken the trunk etc. would it be ‘better’ to reduce the sacrifice branch in stages?
@@Dofusplayr01 yes I use it for all air layers. And maples are another species that air layers very easily. You can air layer them without rooting hormone. The success rate might be slightly higher
6:50 Amazing Material, i wish i could find such nice driftwood here :D
Yes this was an amazing find indeed. And the sun and saltwater had already done all the cleaning up for me.

Great it was useful to you. You can certainly reduce the sacrificial branch(es) in stages, I have also done that in the past.
Great video its good getting NZ information, you mentioned you had some branches being air layered at 9:27. Which rooting hormone do you use? Thanks.
Thanks for reaching out. Junipers are super easy to air layer and work without rooting hormone as well. But I usually use Yates Clonex Purple for it.
@@everydaybonsai thanks for the reply, do you use the same for your maple air layers?

… when you use rooting hormone but I have never done a comparison.
Starting to get a bit late in the season but would love to see an air laying video from start to finish shoeing the process you go through 👍
