How sweet to have sung this song to your wife at your wedding! She's such a sweet, well spoken child. I don't really appreciate Rosie's smart ass attitude to our girl either. I love how Angelina's mannerisms have not changed; the way she holds on to the mic stand, the way she tilts her head, etc. She's there to sing, and does not get distracted. I can't remember any child that can sing like she did at such a young age. Her confidence as a child, blows me away. I love my children, but they would absolutely choke and probably mumble. lol Her Family has done an awesome job raising this young lady. I think it is her particular style, how she kind of holds back and slurs. I can identify it in her songs as she ages. It's seems to me, that is how she "feels" it. That is part of the fun, watching her experiment with different tones, styles, curls, fry, and belts. Her timing and breathing is incredible. Great reaction, Dave. Thank you.
Do you imagine to be in an Angelina Jordan's concert ? what would it be your reaction, would you have words to describe your emotions? .We must be grateful to have her in this hardship days and know that we will have her for more years to come. God bless our Bare foot Angel, Now and ever. Thanks,
for the past hour i watched all your reactions to Angelina ( i listen to her for past 6 years) and i love to see you as happy as we are when Angelina touch our hearts and souls like nobody else,,,,once in a lifetime experience we are blessed to have,,,,,we have super stars and far ahead is Angelina,,,,,,,,,
"I don't really like the ... smartass ..." YES YES YES. Rosie's refusal to distinguish a foreign child's American language sensibilities from an American adult audience's is disturbing. Rosie should have long recognized that a good portion of American adults don't appreciate her style either, yet she presses that attitude on an 8-year-old from Norway - ?!! sigh...
What bugged me more is they [TheView crowd] didn’t give her a standing Ovation. It just goes to show that The View’s audience, still to this day, is stupid. Not being able to recognize a great performance from an 8 y/o prodigy.
Of course she has been practicing and putting hours and hours in her passion for singing, but many kids have been doing just that too with no results, because they did not have a musical ear nor the passion, nor the dedication, nor the will, nor the fearlessness, nor the family support. But, in the end, It is more than that: you need the god given gift to transform a special artistic disposition into action, into a mission, a vocation.
Lovely review Dave, you smiled all the way through which is just what Angelina makes us all do. Such a darling child with the most fabulous voice and has grown into a real treasure. Just love her 😃
The reaction by the listeners to your show tell it a lot better than I can , I certainly agree about your smile and feelings they get from your reactions . Keep it coming , it is a lovely world !!!
I definitely know what you mean by that unique vowel formation at the beginning. I also don't know whether or not it's intentional. She does things like this from time to time, partly I think it's because English is not her first language. To me it adds a lot of interest. What is also apparent in this video is just how humble and adorable Angelina is. I think this was the second video of Angelina's I watched after Gloomy Sunday a couple of years ago. It's when I totally fell in love with her as an artist and as a person. Another comment on her interpretation.. notice in the second verse how perfectly she delivers the line Fly/me/to/the/moon in that staccato pacing. That is a detail right from Frank Sinatra. She never misses nuances like this that give songs their character. Keep it up, Dave, enjoying your journey.
Angelina has said that she feels like a part of every song she sings and that is why she closes her eyes and lets her emotions help her to sing the song.
OMG, your reactions during her performance were absolutely priceless, & really made my day a brighter one!!! It is so hard to digest that this young beauty is an actual earthling, when every instinct we have, is to imagine she comes from somewhere out there ⭐️⭐️⭐️ She is definitely one of the rarest gems in our lifetime ❤️
I love how she sings "You are all I long for" just a hair flat, as if she's just "relaxing" the pitch a little. She did it both times on the same line here (the second time not quite as obvious as the first), and also in other early performances of the same song, so it's clearly intentional. I wonder if that's suppsoed to be a nod to how Frank Sinatra often was, shall we say, not robotically on-pitch all the time. [grin] (I don't hear him doing it on that particular line, though, either in the studio recording or a live performance I've seen. Angelina often does that: borrow some aspect of the "original artist's" style [yeah, I know Frank wasn't the first on this one] to sing a song like they _might have_ sung it, but not how they _actually did_ sing it. See, for example, her covers of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, where sometimes little things she does here and there strike you like, "Oh, that's classic Billie" or "That's classic Ella" - and then you check the original recordings and later live recordings, and it turns out, that's not how they sang those parts at all. And yet, it still doesn't sound like she's doing an _impression_ of the artist. It's much more subtle than that.) Another thing about this performance is just how complicated her vocal arrangement is, with little swoops from above or below on almost every note. It's crazy that she can "get away with" that, especially at this age. It could easily sound contrived. I suppose it actually does to some people, who can't look past her age and just take this performance on its own merits. (One particular reacter said it was "cute", but he couldn't take her seriously singing this song at that age. AFAIK, he only did three AJ reactions and then stopped.)
When she auditioned for Norway's Got Talent she sang Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday. The judges sat there with their mouths open. When she was finished, one judge said "Did you hear that rasp in her voice? It's like she's been drinking whiskey since she was born". Her second audition she sang I'm a Fool To Love You in acapello with perfect pitch. I think her best performance on Norway's GT was Summertime. Her audition on NGT has English subtitles. She was so cute. She had one tooth in the front.
8 year old Angelina creating her own arrangement, teaching the guitarist how she wants to sing the song. Nothing but 100% confidence on stage performing the song just as she had intended. PLEASE find me another 8 year old who can come close.
I always look forward to her new stuff but I still love watching her norway's got talent and younger days. It still puts me in awe after all these years
Angelina doesn't cover a song like everyone else. She makes every song her own. That is what makes her special. Most adults couldn't have done this any better. She has taken original songs that I wouldn't listen to the second time and makes me love them.
I think Rosie was talking too fast for Angelina, who knew English and spoke it but still didn't master it. Angelina's performance was just beautiful! And the hug she gives Rosie at the end was so endearing 💖 So unaware of her talent, so humble!
At some point you need to watch her performances on Norway’s Got Talent. Her first two songs (Gloomy Sunday and I’m a Fool to Want You) she’s channeling Billie Holiday. To understand how incredibly talented she is, I’m a Fool to Want you is a capella. A 7 year old, in front of judges, just knocks that off with perfect pitch, vibrato, and incredible soul. Her next two, Summertime and Bang, Bang, she’s not channeling anybody. We get Angelina’s versions, and they’re stunning. Her own arrangements-and a child singing impossibly well. It’s easy to understand why Angelina won that show. You need to see how it started.
Her version of this song, performed with the Simbla orchestra for Quincy Jones 85 birthday bash at the O2 Arena in London, is a masterclass. She was 12 at the time.
Angelina has been doing it her way for so long that it seems there is only the Angelina way. I am very thankful for her personality, voice, and versatility, she is never boring and seemingly unafraid IMHO. Thumbs up Dave, your reactions are super.
Dave, your smile is ever so present when you listen to Angelina sing "to you". That's the feeling we all get, she's singing straight to us.Oh, definitely, the beginning of the song was intentional. She was already improvising at 7 years old. Dave you have a big heart and people who are like you are extremely vulnerable to what Angelina brings to the table. "We" are easy prey. We receive the love our princess is sending our way and our hearts are locking her in never to leave us. She brings us love, happiness, hope, inspiration and did I leave anything out? Dave, continue to enjoy her and I really like watching your reactions. Thanks.
Legend Quincy Jones invited Angelina to perform at his 85th birthday celebration at the 02 Arena in London in 2018, were she performed his Frank Sinatra arrangement of "Fly Me To The Moon" Mr. Jones compared Angelina to "a young Michael Jackson." It's really worth a reaction. The video (w/enhanced audio) is the rehearsal with full orchestra. I'd post a link but my comments disappear when I do, sorry.
The version she sang for Quincy Jones on his 85th birthday is the one Quincy arranged for Frank Sinatra, Quincy personally asked to com sing it for him.
Angelina did not take the bait of Rosie's leading questions. It was obvious that Angelina was not fed the questions in advance. She came across as innocent and honest.
@@DonaldLancon Rosie asked about the show she saw on TV. Rosie expected "Norway's Got Talent", Angelina said "The View". Rosie asked Angelina about her first song. Rosie expected something like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", Angelina said that she stared with jazz. The bait (or leading questions) are questions asked where the questioner expected either a specific answer or similar; usually to set the stage for follow-up question(s).
@@djs2006 Oh, OK. But the phrase "take the bait" has connotations that I don't think apply here. Almost certainly, the questions were based on a pre-interview done by a segment producer (or whomever), so Rosie knew the answers she could expect to get. That's why Rosie reacted the way she did to Angelina's "The View?" answer. Everything else looks like it went the way she expected.
Angelina was asked about "scattered" (I hope I spelled it correctly 6:34) on the TV show "Littel BIG SHOTS UK". Angelina gave the impression that it is absolutely not her style. I know a lot of their versions of this song, but Angelina's always sings it a little differently. It is always an experience. ✌️😎✌️💯 *AJ* 💯👣
Dave, great reaction and insight to this lovely rendition of Fly Me to the Moon by Angelina. You are right, it would have been awesome to hear her scat which we haven't really heard her do yet in any of her performances. Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Anita Baker are the masters and I'm sure Sarah and Ella are big influences on Angelina so hopefully we'll hear some scatting from Angelina soon and it will be beautiful!!!
Would love to see your reaction to her recent release '7th Heaven'. Some are calling it jazzy pop. To me it has a Peggy Lee's 'Fever' vibe to it. I love jazz and what she is doing with it. My hope is that she can bring the genre back. I also love classical music and love seeing what artist's like David Garrett and the 2 Cellos are doing for classical music (combining classical and rock). There's hope in my heart.
In Rosie's defense, her comedy style is sarcasm. I don't believe she was trying to be condescending; she was just doing her kind of humor. A more accurate criticism of her would be that she didn't know how to talk to an eight-year-old (it's almost certain she had never interviewed anyone so young), and she didn't appreciate or allow for the fact that the interview was in a second language for Angelina (English rather than Norwegian). In any event Angelina handled it perfectly, like the the professional she somehow always is.
I agree Rosey was a little annoying in the pre-interview, but at least at the end you dont show, she brings out a bunch of Disney stuffed characters, which Angelina absolutely loved.
Didn't much enjoy Rosie either but I think she realized she was dealing with a very shy little girl and needed to take control. Angelina is fluent in English but but still not comfortable conversant.
Again, right there with you. Was thinking the same thing about Rosie.. But like a boss that she is. Angelina was not bothered by it and just nailed the performance.
No matter how old she is she can sing anything she’s so adorable and I have to say I like Jazz but I hate scat and Angelina has never done that and I hope she never will great reaction love 💕 from Denise in Yorkshire England 🏴💖👼👼👸🏻👸🏻🦶🦶👏👏👋😘
I'm glad you said something about wanting to hear Angelina scat. I imaging she has probably heard everything Ella Fitzgerald ever sang, so I'm sure she could do it. I would like to hear her do vocalese like Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. She would kill that too. BTW - Angelina was accompanied here by Steve Conte, one of the premier guitarists in bands and studios in NYC.
There isn't much "normal girl" with this sweet doll, as she claims herself. Think of your self being interviewed on tv in something like her third language.. She handles Rosy quite well.. 😋🤗
Angelina did handle the ribbing quite well. As for those whom are annoyed by Rosie, IMO, 95% of her comments were tongue in cheek. She knows 8 year olds normally don't sing like Ella but that bit was more for the older folks than it was for Angelina. I think she cleaned up any rudeness with the Disney gifts. Besides, anybody that pisses off Donald Trump as much as Rosie does is a stand up citizen in my book 😃.
No American can sing like Angelina Jordan. She is not going into Hollywood or that dirty music industry. Her music is international & so is her fan base. She re-arranged the song I Put a Spell on You.
Rosey is no longer on that show......Love your reaction and comments. Angelina is amazing at never singing the same song the same way, there are always different. Amazing performer. Looking forward to more Angelina from you. : )
Great reaction and comments. The old 78 rpm records were limited to about 3 minutes at the maximum, preferably a littlte less. This will be important to know when you eventually get to Angelina’s original “7th Heaven”... 😉
As you said, there are many many versions of this one. This is kind of a staple song for Angelina. It's one of the only ones that I have seen her sing year after year. One of the other versions of this song that you really need to check out at some point is when she was invited by Quincy Jones to perform this at O2 arena in London for his 85th birthday celebration. Angelina later described this as the high point of her life so far. The video you want for that is titled: "Angelina Jordan - Fly Me To The Moon - Quincy Jones - 2018 (rehearsal video/best concert sound)" You have many, many more to see, but this is a "can't miss" video, so you should swing back to it sometime down the road.
Amazing part of Angelina's singing at this age is not just her voice quality but her use of phrasing, timing, and negative space. She phrases the song just like Sinatra. How does she know how to do that at 8 years old? 8-year-olds tend to sing pretty monotone. Regard to that holding back issue you mentioned, or nasally sounding a bit, you have to remember that at 8 years old she did not have the power yet. When she got to nine and especially 10, things changed dramatically in terms of her power and ability to project. That is evident in I Put A Spell on You.
You can revisited her singing this song when she is older practicing with the orchestra for quincy jones concert which is more jazzy. Would be great full if you react to it.
I believe scat is something that has to come naturally in order to be authentic. At this age that may be too much to ask. She still doesn't do scat but has developed so many other stylistic options it never happen or even need to happen.
The infant Angelina's physiology forced her to contort herself all kinds of ways to achieve the sound she wanted. It was soon totally effortless as she grew into her voice.
Oh, so do you think that's why she tilted her head back? Hmm… I hadn't considered that possibility… that she was trying to hit the right notes or get the right "sound". Hmmmmmm… [grin]
@@DonaldLancon I'm thinking more of her mouth and jaw, which, at 8-ish, she had to contort much more to get vowel sounds she now achieves effortlessly. I used to think she sounded like an adult until I played one of her old songs in my car and a young passenger immediately said: "That sounds like a kid singing." So, while her voice was unusually deep as a 7 - 10-year-old, I believe her vocal maturity was as much to do with her using techniques that kids her age don't tend to even notice as her distinctive tone.
@@alanoakley3242 Ah… OK (re at 1½). About the sounding older or not: yeah, you can definitely hear that she was young in all her early stuff. Just maybe not _that_ young. (I played a selection of songs "blind" for my parents, who only knew she was still young, but not _how_ young, and they estimated her age, just from the audio, to be anywhere from 12 to 15, I think it was, for "I Put a Spell on You", to her late teens to mid 20s for "Born to Die". [They knew she wasn't that old, but I asked how old she sounded.])
There is actually an opening to this song, (a song intro - which was a popular thing to write way back in the day) that no one but Tony Bennett sings anymore, that sort of explains the concept of the song. The first time I heard this version I was a little unsure about the vocal fry she uses on 'stars'. Now that I have heard it at least 20 times, I def would not want it any other way! LOL
Angelina said in an interview that, when she was learning English, she would "mumble" at first until she got the pronunciation down. I too don't like Rose's temperament she speaks to Angelina as if she was born and raised speaking English. (English is actually her third language, after Norse, And Farsi.) Angelina is also quite shy when it comes to public speaking. You will see that when you watch some of her Norway's Got Talent interactions. She often can be seen in her videos, reading the lyrics while she performs.
I agree that Rosie rubbed me the wrong way too. Maybe Rosie didn't realize that she could actually hold an intelligent adult conversation with Angelina. Her voice changes depending on the song and even on her many videos of this song it is different each time. Check out the Quincy Jones Bday rehearsal video with a 50+ member orchestra in London where she sang Quincy's arrangement he did for Frank Sinatra, at 12 yo. You need to watch "What A Difference A Day Makes" Allsang pa Grensen 2014 at 8 years old onstage with a band and back up singers at an outdoor venue in Norway. Mind boggling. Thanks Dave! Cheers from Florida
Kids learn to speak at a certain age...Angelina was grooving on Jazz when she learned her words. She aint singing as much as she is having a conversation in her native language.
Great reaction. I feel at that age, Angelina was more "true" to the songs she covered. It's first a couple of years later, that she starts to put her own spin to them =) Btw, anyone know the name of the guitarist that accompanied her on The View?
Another great reaction to the Barefoot Princess Dave. Had to chuckle myself and always do when Rosie says "we love 8 year old girls who can sing", really?? You have never seen an 8 year old like Angelina in your lifetime. Enjoying your journey Dave...keep it going please. BTW, a little mispronunciation of words when she was very young was a common trait from Angelina, whether intentional or the fact that English is her third language. Good catch though.
This is my least favorite, but Angelina still shines. A good video to find out about her bare feet is, Angelina Jordan interview by Anne Lindmo NRKTV. 14/11/2015. Angelina talks about her book (she's 9) and why she is barefoot on stage. Very good, but you will need subtitles..
Contrary to popular belief Frank was not the first to record this. Kay Ballard released the first on a 45 rpm and Johnny Mathis added it to his song set. But Angelina most resembles Julie London's version. Check out both Kay and Julie's versions to more appreciate this gem from Angelina.
Rosie using sarcasm with an 8 year old who's being raised tenderly by her parents & grandparents. Sarcasm is not a form of humor most young children understand. Your instincts are correct Dave.
Ahhh.....the reason why i love American music . Jazz and Frank Sinatra . Lets not forget that we all got that hillbilly bones inside us (home free) get it Dave?? 🤣🤣🤣
I think you misunderstood what Rosie was saying....I think she was astonished that Angelina was singing jazz at 1 and a half years old....and made a joke about her baby studying all the classic artists of jazz....like Ella Fitzgerald.
How sweet to have sung this song to your wife at your wedding! She's such a sweet, well spoken child. I don't really appreciate Rosie's smart ass attitude to our girl either. You are right to feel that way Angelina has done more at age 7 than old bag rose will ever do
What a cute child, and such a haunting performance🥰
Angelina's singing shut Rosie up. Rosie's shock and awe pleased me so much.
Every morning I look for your shining face and great smile because I know Angelina is first up! Thanks Dave.
I really love watching her sing! She goes into to her world then when she’s done she becomes a child again!
I absolutely love your reactions to Angelina. She always makes me smile and so do your reactions. Thank you.
Thank you Dave, 👍. It's a little bit of Angelina's sweetness, I can't believe she's only 8. Be safe 👍💞
"I don't really like the ... smartass ..." YES YES YES. Rosie's refusal to distinguish a foreign child's American language sensibilities from an American adult audience's is disturbing. But Angelina handled it gracefully, though...
Angelina 8 years old says i started singing when i was very young, gets me giggling every time 😂
So true 🤣 Totally unaware of her talent!
Great thought. Yes, been there often.
I know right !😂
Rosie rubbed me the wrong way. Smart mouth and talked over Angelina. Angelina is a godsend.
What bugged me more is they [TheView crowd] didn’t give her a standing Ovation. It just goes to show that The View’s audience, still to this day, is stupid. Not being able to recognize a great performance from an 8 y/o prodigy.

Brilliant.
Angelina has said that she feels like a part of every song she sings and that is why she closes her eyes and lets her emotions help her to sing the song.
That comment was fun, brilliant and imaginary deep (for the lack of a better word)...

And you can catch some of her singing on Angelina Jordan Fanclub channel on utube too , she did a concert for her North Pole fans a week ago!😊

You must do her "Every Time I say Goodbye", rooftop at 10, 2016.
I agree Dave with your comments re Rosie whoever. Angelina’s a professional treat her with the respect she deserves.

Dave, do this suggestion. You'll hear the jazziness and maturity in Angelina's voice. Thanks for posting this, Rotorhead.
Even if you don’t react to the Quincy Jones rehearsal video at least listen to it Dave so you can hear her more mature voice sing this song.

Es la mejor vocalista que he escuchado en mucho tiempo y ahora está empezando a descubrir su verdadero potencial.... Esta maravillosa criatura va á cambiar muchos conceptos musicales , és adorable.
The version she sang for Quincy Jones on his 85th birthday is the one Quincy arranged for Frank Sinatra, Quincy personally asked to com sing it for him.
Another great enthusiastic expressive reaction good work looking forward to more
Angelina did not take the bait of Rosie's leading questions. It was obvious that Angelina was not fed the questions in advance. She came across as innocent and honest.
What would have been an example of "taking the bait"?
@@DonaldLancon Accepted. No negative connotations implied.
I was so looking forward to your next AJ reaction, ,,, I like the video one myself, she sings the whole song. She is adorable
When she sang at Quincy Jones 85th Birthday she used Quincy's arrangement for Sinatra
Great reaction!
May be next should be Feeling good. It’s impressive!!
Angel.ina😇🙏❤️
Angelina is just fanstastic. Check out Hailey Tuck, Tip "Cry to Me", also. Similar jazzy voice with great color.
Another fan commented there are 41 different variations of this song sung by Angelina
Again, right there with you. Was thinking the same thing about Rosie.. But like a boss that she is. Angelina was not bothered by it and just nailed the performance.
Actually, she said she was 1-1/2. There is a record of this out there and is
the most remarkable thing I've ever seen in the area of singing.
She do some scat at the end of yellow brick Roar 😁
I agree with you about Rosy. Angelina is always changing up a song. It does sound different. It's her tone and arrangement. Love it.
There's a rehearsal of this for a Quincy Jones birthday concert which is pretty awesome and shows her collaboration with the band.
Well, yes. Her first language is jazz.
@@jamil2447 yeah. You are right.. I sit here in Norway and feel sorry for you guys who must cope with a primium narsisist..
@@jamil2447, Rosie and Trump are cut from the same cloth. New Yorkers, that refuse to concede anything to others.
@@gertwestblad9052 Sorry enough to send a crew of Vikings to help really make America great again? 😢
Omg homies it are boy dave get it
No American can sing like Angelina Jordan. She is not going into Hollywood or that dirty music industry. Her music is international & so is her fan base. She re-arranged the song I Put a Spell on You.
Thank you, I only watched this because of you and Angelina 😊! I don't waste my attention to shows that has people like Rosie O on it! 🤪
The reason for 3.5 minute songs is that radio station execs wouldn't allow anything longer to play as it cut into their advertising revenue.
??? Reactions done ✅ 100 and ??? To go I look forward to sharing your experience with you. 😁
Check out Angelina this same song rehearsal for Quincy Jones 85thBirthday in London. It’s a 40 piece orchestra.
LOL
I thought Rosie was being sarcastic because Angelina could sing so well and she was so young. Listen to unchained melody or Valerie.
That’s very possible. It’s just rubbed me the wrong way. Felt like she was being condescending instead of sarcastic.
CONNIE TALBOT was a great young singer! Still is !
You can tell which one had the brains in that interview.... :-)
Wow amazing ❤️
I agree with you 💯. Rosie is also rubbing me the wrong way. A little sarcastic i think...... listening from Cape Town South Africa.
Angelina Jordan Astar is MUSIC!
Stay save with distance! Wir sind mit ABSTAND die Besten! 😷😷 Bernd 🙂
FYI, English is Angelina's third or fourth language.
To compare this with the rehearsal at age 12 for Quincy Jones is also mind-blowing...just sayin’...thanks for your reaction!
Here her sing feeling good and summertime Angelina Jordan and gloomy Sunday
Nice reaction.. again.. chk also same song in quincy jones birthday rehearsal.. it is different ..
i really dont see much wrong with her Angelina did just awesome
I would have loved views of the people in the audience....with their jaws opened.😉
Imagine, backstage. The guitarist. I’m gonna accompany an 8 year old??!!
the way she says DREAM or DREAMS in 7th heaven.. you should appreciate the formation it.
Contrary to popular belief Frank was not the first to record this. Kay Ballard released the first on a 45 rpm and Johnny Mathis added it to his song set. But Angelina most resembles Julie London's version. Check out both Kay and Julie's versions to more appreciate this gem from Angelina.
Wow, Daniel, I would've guessed Kay Ballard predated 45's and was more in the 78 generation. Just a thought.
Rosie using sarcasm with an 8 year old who's being raised tenderly by her parents & grandparents. Sarcasm is not a form of humor most young children understand. Your instincts are correct Dave.
There are 3 more version. The acustic one is soooooo good
She does some scat in summertime and it’s a mans world maybe also in cheek to cheek
