Another neat little detail about the Moon Formation simulation is that a second, even larger blob of collision debris formed from the impact at the same time as the proto-Moon blob, only to fall back into the proto-Earth and re-merge, and as it did so its gravity slung the proto-Moon out into a stable orbit.
It probably took longer to create the computer animation than it took for the moon to actually form.
As excitable as the "waking up AND FINDING A WHOLE MOON THERE" was (especially at increased playback speed), I don't think it really quite captured how most of us would have reacted. 😆
A* for effort though.
Most of us would have probably used some words that would take their family friendly status away
The moon formation being fast doesn't surprise me considering it formed from something hitting the earth and that collision threw a chunk of debris into earth's orbit. It would be easy to assume that there was a single chunk that was very large that became the main satellite going around the earth, and it would have been incredibly hot. It would have pulled in other chunks in that orbital path pretty quickly, or pulled them into that orbital path for later collision or pushed objects out of that path as its gravitational force became larger.
Hey maybe in a take on God we can say that body that crashed into Earth was the hand of God because without it life would have been very different or may have been wiped out after it started. It could be that without that chunk the earth's core wouldn't have had the energy to keep the mantle going the way it has or large enough to stay hot.
So thanks God for throwing that big chunk at the earth :-)
This makes me wonder... how does a planet getting hit by, y'know, asteroids or comets or whatever, affect the other objects in the solar system, if at all? Like, did the Chicxulub asteroid impact only affect Earth?
Very very little because things in the solar system are so far apart. For example a comet hit Jupiter just 20 or so years ago but we only knew because people were watching with telescopes.
Okay but. I need to know where to get the dinosaur t-shirt.
savannah speaks so clearly despite how fast they talk, please have them host more videos!! they’re really becoming one of my favourite hosts

@@bushmg1061 Savannah IDs as They/Them if i remember correctly
super cool T-shirt !!!!
Omg I LOVE that shirt and whish I could have it as well 😍😍
I wanted to make a joke of intentionally misinterpreting what they meant by JWST
Only to find out that there aren't really any other uses of JWST
Off topic, but I love that shirt!
Alien "I will keep watching after I get some sleep.
Alien: *wakes up 3 hours later and sees a moon* Huh?
Yet another top-notch video, SciShow! Here's a like and comment for the Almighty Algorithm, in return.
❤️❤️
Cool.
Milky Way: *_has a central bulge_*
Furries: "OwO what's this?"
The moon forming in a few hours bit sound crazy
That would be like me waking up, no moon
After 3/4 of my day, still no moon
Then looking at the sky before going to bed, there is a moon
That image is oddly terrifying.
Unfortunately not entirely realistic, since the impact of Theia would've literally melted Earth's crust all over again, and the whole planet would be shaking so violently that you'd break all your bones just standing on the surface, assuming you didn't already burn to ash before then. But, if you were on Venus or Mars at the time, then you'd definitely be enjoying the show (since it's possible they had earth-like conditions in the distant past)
Wait! I’m confused. When you say “remnant” of a supernova, do you mean the core object or the stuff that it ejected? Are you talking about the distribution of cores, or the interactions of the clouds of ejecta?
The whole thing.
It can be either depending on the context, but in this case "remnant" means the former core of the star which is now either a neutron star or a black hole.
Naw the host ain't it I'm afraid :(
You talk fast
......how do you do that???
...that's what she said 😏
You mean that's what "they" said you gender πaz!.
Oh brother
@@PaintedMoonBlue you mean "sibling". So much hate speech. I can't believe this channel has so many... Is nowhere safe? It's bad enough Twitter has become the hate capital of the internet. Now it's starting here... The horror!
They/them*
Completely ejected? Imagine running into a rogue black hole in intergalactic space and just having no heads up because there’s nothing around for it to screw with except you.
Galactic Underworld!?!?!?
Pretty webb space pics.......
Hi Savannah!
I like all the presenters, but Savannah has their own special blend of enthusiasm and clarity. Really enjoyed this!
Wow, Savannah is awesome. They're talking fast, but also quite clearly, so they're easy to understand. Hank is just one among several excellent hosts.
savannah uses they/them :) and i agree!
@@kaitlynoddie9649 OOPS Yes you're absolutely right. That's my mistake. Thank you for pointing that out. It's a measure of respect.
@@_andrewvia not really. To not challenge people on their delusions is to treat them like children.
@@bushmg1061 delusion? more of a cultural habit due to lack of presence of mind. I am glad Kaitlyn woke me up.
@@bushmg1061 do you go around everywhere actung like a outdated bigot?
Is keeping the same cadence for all the presenters a choice?
I love Savannah's dino bones with flowers shirt!
Right! I came here looking for a link lol
Talk a bit slower please x
You can change the playback speed.
Lol I had it on x1.25 cause I was in a rush
I bet, all computer model did not account for Jupiter and Saturn.
The theory that the moon formed in only a few hours is about twenty years old. The first computer simulations of the Earth/Theia impact had the Moon forming in less than 24 hours. This was *TWENTY* years ago, mind you.
Warp drive wouldn't fit on a ship instead they'd be huge space stations fling ship long gravitational Waves of warped space time

Does this include the discovery of nuclear fusion?
That's not at all what happened with the recent fusion news. I highly suggest you look up some expert explaining it.
@@SECONDQUEST They literally created more energy than they used. It worked. I didn't claim that it's VIABLE yet, or that we're going to have nuclear fusion plants tomorrow. But they did discover nuclear fusion.
The first successful nuclear fusion experiment not from a nuclear bomb was in 1958.
@@SECONDQUEST condescend down from that high horse much?
Wow. Sorry to say, but please slow down a bit.
Change your playback speed
@@SECONDQUEST is just at 100%.
