Jacob u Egharevba was a Yoruba man, who was only representing the Yoruba interests, and the only printing press then was in Ibadan in Yoruba tertiary, and would not want the Benin to undermine their history, because they joined forces with the British to destroy Benin kingdom.

    As many people have pointed out, the pronunciation of Oba Ewuare was wrong. Dr Catel made a mistake by calling him Oba Ewure... but to be fair there is a disclaimer in the description of the video that states pronunciation may differ due to accent.
    Furthermore the origin stories Dr Catel choses to share in these videos are LEGENDS (or in some cases pure MYTH) and it's therefore entirely possible that they contain falsehoods or are untrue. This is because there are no written records of the true origins. Various different origin stories were transmitted orally by different peoples and Dr Catel is simply choosing to share the ones that he finds most interesting.
    Also bibliography and sources can be found in the description.

    I am yoruba and the history we know was that Oduduwa came from Mecca after his father was murdered. Using the magical powers passed down to him from his father, crown and staff he commanded the whirl wind to take him to a land to rule. He dropped down with a chain from the sky in Ile Ife at the time when Ife warriors were loosing a war and were being taken as captives by their Enemies. Oduduwa helped in winning the war and was later chosen as king by the oracle. He went back to rescue his brothers and cousins in mecca and brought them to ile Ife after he dreamt they were in trouble. After they stayed for a while in ile Ife they were given materials to go and create other kingdoms. According to the history Benin kingdom is one of them which explains why there is a form of similarity between Ife bronze and Benin Bronze.
    It also explains why the king of Benin is Called Oba which is the Yoruba word for king
    This is what I was taught and heard From my elders

    • @davlid100
      @davlid100 3 роки тому +7

      Yea the mecca is actually Benin empire. We understand why they change the story..but they cannot change the DNA ".most yoruba kings today have Benin origin including ooni of ife. DNA cannot lie.

    • @steppen3838
      @steppen3838 3 роки тому +5

      That is very wrong story you learned. I would like you to ask your elders in yoruba land if there was any word like ' OBA' as resent as 1960s. Oba is an Edo language and never yoruba. There is a yoruba term or name for kings and chiefs. The term oba was simply copied from Benin, Edo because of the kingdom popularity.
      In addition to that the word 'Eba' the food made from garri is also a Benin, Edo language term introduced to into yoruba language through Lagos in the late 70s. The yorubas never used to eat EBA all they used to eat was Amala. From origin EBA has been a the major food the Benins Edos. Ask the elderly people at home, they will confirm what i am telling you today.
