I think it was mainly because she knew Sue was genuinely sorry for how she treated her, she probably figured out that Sue was the one who asked Tommy to ask her to the prom and she realised that by doing that that she was trying to make things up to Carrie. Carrie probably realised that Sue had nothing to do with the pigs blood prank and never really hated her, that it was really Chris who was the bitch here.

This is not a bad remake at all (unnecessary perhaps, the original 1976 movie was fantastic--but still, this remake isn't bad). I especially love this scene--Moriez in particular blows you away with the kaleidoscopic emotional beats--rage ("look what you turned me into"), despair ("I killed my mother"), grief ("I want her back"), compassion (telling Sue to get out of there and PUSHING her out--gently) and joy ("it's a girl"). Really, she's terrific here. I quite like the remake even if it's not perfect (and even if Moretz is just a little too beautiful to be Carrie--she's such a good actor it doesn't matter). Moore is also excellent.

In the original Novel she didnt just had Telekinesis, but also Telephatie and other Psychic Powers. Thats how she knew it in the Novel, and thats why she spared Sue at the end. Sue purposefully opened her Mind to show carry that she really was sorry, and just wanted her to have a good time at the Prom, and carry could read that.

This is one of the most emotional and heartwrenching scenes I’ve seen in my life.
It’s a masterpiece. The actresses are amazing.
What I find especially heartening is the expression of female solidarity. Sue knew that Carrie was on a rampage, that she had superpowers that could kill her easily if she wanted to, & that Carrie probably thought that Sue was in on the prank…yet she went to go try to help Carrie anyway, and risked her life doing it.
You also notice that both actresses are fresh out of the shower/bath, “cleansed”, no makeup. It’s equality between women - no competition.
And Carrie realizes that Sue is pregnant with another innocent girl & then uses her superpowers to save Sue’s, and Sue’s daughter’s, lives. Carrie also seemed happy about the pregnancy, and didn’t judge Sue for being a “slut” for getting pregnant as a teenager out of wedlock. This is particularly telling, since she was raised in a household where even developing breasts was a sign of being a slut; yet Carrie managed to rise above this misogynistic social conditioning & not judge Sue for her sexuality.
I like to interpret it as Carrie seeing a chance to reincarnate into a new life…but a large part of that is because it is much more heartbreaking otherwise.
Props to Kimberly Peirce, Chloe Moretz, and Gabriella Wilde. ♥

Actually, there was a scene cut from the movie when Carrie was younger. She was in the backyard talking to a neighbor when her movie comes and takes her inside. As she is being taken inside she is crying, which causes stones (smaller than ones seen here) to fall onto the house. Here rocks are used to fall instead.
I don't know why they cut that seen as many people were confused to why rocks fell on the house.

    • @Blast2224
      @Blast2224 9 років тому +102

I wish they had used the novel's ending instead. *Spoilers*
In the novel, the death of Margaret happens BEFORE Chris and Billy. After the knife fight, Carrie stops her mother's heart, and stumbles away from the house. She finds the roadhouse where her mother was raped (and she was conceived, rather than giving in to a date rape), and sees Chris and Billy making love inside as victory for the prank (not aware that the school and town had been partially destroyed). Billy and Chris attempt to run her over but Carrie (like with the gas station) sends the car into the building and kills them both. Sue finds Carrie as she collapses and bleeds out, and lets Carrie scan her brain to see that she never intended to hurt her. Crying for her mother to come back, Carrie dies in Sues arms as they have a brief telepathic link.
In the aftermath, Chaimberlain is a ghost town. Sue later writes a book about her experience with Carrie to prevent bullying. The novel ends sort of like how this movie does, implying Carrie is still alive, but instead implying that Carrie reincarnated herself into another child with a better family in Tennessee. Sue receives a letter from the child's mother asking for guidance to raise her with her amazing (not frightening) psychic abilities.

    • @jennad71
      @jennad71 9 років тому +48

Blast22 I'm so glad that someone else also noticed the reincarnation implication in the book.
But the 2013 movie also implies a reincarnation, at least in the 1st version of the ending (the movie theatre version) wherein the tombstone breaks.
Notice Carrie is about to kill Sue, but then she reads Sue and, look at how Carrie's face lights up for a split second when she says "it's a girl"??? That's when Carrie decides to push Sue out of the house so that Sue can live, & decides to kill herself by letting the house kill her (she could have easily run out of the house).
Notice that Sue holds her hand over her pregnant belly after the house )the place of Carrie's oppression) is destroyed.
After this scene, there are 2 endings to the movie - the ending that was shown in theatres, and the ending that you probably saw (the one released on DVD). Each of these endings suggested one possibility of what will happen after she dies. SPOILERS FROM HERE.
The first ending was a voice-over of Sue admitting that her & her classmates had pushed her to that breaking point. Sue leaves a flower at Carrie’s grave, and as she starts walking away, Carrie’s defaced tombstone breaks apart. With that, Carrie the Fetus (lol) destroys the last remnant of hatred bestowed upon her by society. Carrie wins.
Then there was the second ending. Sue is in the hospital giving birth, & Carrie’s bloody arm is what comes out of Sue’s uterus (any doubts now that Carrie was the fetus? lol). When it shoots to the scene where it’s revealed Sue was having a nightmare, we see that there’s a big cross above the crib. In this movie, the cross is obviously representative of the oppression of Carrie. Thus, this ending is representative of what will happen if Sue treats Carrie the same way that Carrie's mother treated her - Carrie will continue to fight back, no matter what, until she is blessed with a non-oppressive family.

The real story that inspired King is even more depressing. He based it on 2 girls that were bullied in his high school. Probably one girl more than the other, because she was teased for wearing the same outfit every day. One year she finally showed up with a cute new outfit and the bullying got worse. As King basically put it, "She made a break for the fences to be accepted/normal and they punished her for it." After he sold Carrie to a publisher, he went looking for this girl/grown woman and found that she'd never really left the small town where she grew up and she lived in a trailer park. But he was too late - she'd committed suicide the year before.

compared to the original movie, this scene has one big advantage: the audio.
the noises while the house collapses, sounding like a giant, wounded animal and the viewer knowing what / who caused it to , this asociating those sounds of pain to the inner pain of carrie white, this scene was just beautifully done.

It wouldn't make sense to put her in Guardians since it doesn't take place on earth, though it would be funny -and possibly cute- if there was a scene where Carrie was grooming/ trimming baby Groot.)

the touching her stomach-scene was, in my own opinion, just her reaction on the pregnant with a baby girl part of carries last words to her.
plus the deleted scene of sue giving birth to the baby and seeing carrie in one of the nurses wasnt added for a reason, its not in the book and it didnt fit the movie at all.

    2) Sue making it into the house and trying to help Carrie was a great expansion of her character. It must've been comforting for Carrie to realize someone did truly want her to be happy and safe

I really wish they had used the ending in the book though. It appeared more tragic and sad, and I think this is what the movie aims to be. A tragic story about a girl who is ostracized at school, learns that she has telekinesis and gets pushed too far. And I think it would have a more emotional impact if it used the books ending. It showed how much people died and how Chamberlain became a ghost town. Also there's also that small part at the end of the novel where(Spoiler Alert to those who haven't read the novel, or this part of the novel) An auntie sent a letter to(i think to a friend of hers?) talking about how she saw her niece(named Annie) moving her toys around using her mind. If they added that as an ending I think the movie would have a potential sequel. Maybe this girl will grow up and eventually learn she too has psychic powers and is afraid to tell everybody else, maybe because of the destruction of the town. Then she'll help clear Carrie's name or something idk.

In the novel, Sue met her during her dying moments, outside the house, and through telepathy Carrie knew that Sue did not intend to harm her nor Tommy Ross .. Carrie loved her mother very much, and after she killed her and killed Chris and Billy, she realized that (things got out of control), and returned Again a weak child, calling her dead mother, collapsing and begging .. The miserable lost everything and could not stand up after everything that happened. Death was the perfect ending for her.

I kinda wish Carrie survived, moved to a different state, met a nice guy. But I know why it’s like this.

That's the thing. Carrie had so much potential to be such a good person with her power and just her heart, the world just made her that way with the torment and abuse. which brings up the fact that that's the most admirable thing about Carrie White, her love for her mother was too great.
Carrie White is the living embodiment of what we all should be. Brave enough to face our monsters and mistakes...

And the mother is shown to love Carrie too...the way she sometimes strokes her in a maternal way and calls Carrie "my little girl". Its just that the mother's mental issues won out in the end and she tried to kill Carrie

We need a TV show based on Carrie. I know that there was supposed to be one in 2002, but honestly, we need one now.

I haven't watched the movie but seem really interested to. I'm just pointing out.
It's kind of unrealistic that nobody wants to be her friend. You have many people commenting 'I'll be her friend', yet out of a thousand (or more) students ignore her. There are many kind, generous and thoughtful students who will pity the girl so it's unrealistic if she has NO friends. And cause she's seen as the weird girl, she must have at least 1 or 2 friends who help her.

+TheDazzlingJ3D It's not only Carrie. It's her mother too.

      "Unrealistic"
See how "nerds" was treated in 80's or 90's.
It's not totally unrealistic after all, if you consider the stereotypes people had gaven to "nerdy students" and the reactions towards that [if not tragic ones in real life]

This scene was actually in the original script for the 1976 film, but was cut. Interesting to see it adapted into the remake.
