Who else wants to see Wes Ball make Mouse Guard?
God, yes.
I don't think his problem is he "can't" make the film as much as it is a bigger risk for him to do it without big studio backing.
@@enigmawstudios4130 well something to level they were doing it there would probably be a decent amount
@@FrameVoyager yes. I believe people will take lesser quality aesthetic for good story and immersive world building.
Hell yes
Mate, he is Lucky to be working in Hollywood. There are so many creatives who are struggling to survive.
Oh I don't disagree, it's not a hit piece on him 😅 More just highlighting the great work he's been doing and the opportunities that would have been awesome to see like Mouse Guard.
@@FrameVoyager Thank you for clarifying, sir. Your content is always great through. I'm a regular here 😊
@@dreadfuldeadlinesessaytuto3892 Yeah but, It’s still probably a little soul crushing to be stuck in that situation in his career though.
@@bookswithabel how is it clickbait? We use this theme as the main thesis 😅
I agree, 100%!
He is literally working in Hollywood consistently, making hit movies and living his dream as a director. How is that hell? LOL He is no Scorcese or Spielberg but he is doing pretty damn well, more than 99% of aspiring filmmakers. No disrespect to you, but hell to me is chasing views on UA-cam.
It's not that he's not doing well or that he's not getting great opportunities, but it's that thing for every artist who has a vision of what they want to make get snatched away from them and settle for something that exists already. Personally, I feel this too. For contract workers or even people in this industry, you have a vision of doing this one thing but in the end you take what comes available to you. You know it's something 99% of people would die to have, but you still wish you could work on that passion project and Everytime you do, it just doesn't pan out. So while you're successful, you still have that itch. If that makes sense.
Sometimes success can be hell, because it keeps you from what you really want to achieve. But that's why it's posed as a question in the title. Is he in franchise film hell?
Totally fine if you think it's still chasing for views, it is, but it's also not a title we didn't thematically think through how it pertains to his career.
I am not a huge fan of Wes Ball but I gotta give him credit for finishing his YA trilogy from start to finish which is kinda rare these days to see a YA trilogy being finished by the same filmmaker. Despite that The Maze Runner movies weren't really all that good (I do like the first one tho), I still appreciate Ball's effort. I'm curious to see what he will do for Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes
0:18 Rise was directed by Rupert Wyatt and released in 2011
Yeah I meant Dawn just get them mixed up 😅
@@FrameVoyager easily done!
@@goldengoatfilms98 I've always thought it makes ZERO sense in naming convention 😂 why does "Dawn" come after "rise"?
I do love that every single time he’s had a chance to make a movie he’s like “but what if it’s like Avatar?” Not even a knock on the guy lol, just kind of funny
It's awesome 😅 I'd be the same way. "Gotta make this shot like Greig Fraser"
Love the deep dives on directors and others in the film industry I know little about! Thanks for all the research you put into this one.
Appreciate it! Yeah, I really like covering some of these guys that don't get enough exposure for their work. Wes Ball is a pretty interesting director, would have LOVED to see that Mouse Guard film. Planning on doing a lot of these director videos in the future
I'm a massive fan of the entire Maze Runner trilogy, and look forward to seeing more from him. Kingdom was flawed but still had a great second half.
We have high hopes for wes ball to do so many movies in the future
So happy to find your channel. Keep it up mate you got this ❤🎉
Appreciate it!
I'm a new fan cuz he knows how to talk about his movies in interviews, I think he knows what he's gonna do with his career, he is a Miyazaki and James Cameron fan, I just hope his politics are similarly revolutionary
As long as he isnt a communist he is cool in my book
I’m over rich elitist trying to tell the real world how to feel, it’s condescending.
We badly need a Director who can manage the complexity of modern VFX-heavy production without this subsuming story and character development, e.g. Cameron is arguably weak in these areas, to the detriment of his films. Hopefully Wes Ball's career arc means he will ultimately become a Director who can successfully bring all of this together.
This videos really good, the quality is crazy bro
Appreciate it!
These are cool videos! Thanks for making them
Appreciate it! Trying to make more of these director focused videos with an angle to them.
Love the video! And I love that more people are starting to recognize how talented he is as a director. Especially with his background VFX. He’s always passionate about the movies he’s making. Wes may have not loved the story of the last two maze runner books but I love that he stuck with it. He took it and made it his own. As a huge fan of the books, I can easily say that I also love the movies despite how different they are. Wes really knew the books and the fanbase. He understood what made the books so great and beloved by the fans and expanded on those things. The things the books didn’t do well he changed. So maybe The Maze Runner wasn’t his dream job as a director but I appreciate that he worked so hard on them regardless. He gave the fans a film adaptation that we always dreamed of and still love to this day. For that I will always support any project he works on. The way he still engages with fans and talks about the movies also shows how much he loves the movies and the fanbase. And we love him back. Can’t wait to watch Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes!
Glad you liked it! Some people automatically assume I'm blasting him in this video haha
relationships that’s where I fell short. I don’t have enough of those and the ones I have and had were bad and I don’t want go back to. seems in this business you’re always proving yourself constantly if you understand that you’ll be OK.
This is a phenomenal video. It got me to care about someone I otherwise would have never heard of. Congratulations!
Appreciate it! You'll like this channel, we do a lot of deep dives like this often.
Video Note: I meant "Dawn" of the planet of the Apes. My bad!
More like the entire movie industry is stuck in franchise hell.
0:14 it is absolutely mind-boggling to consider that no one had heard of any of these filmmakers before 2014. I've loved Slither, Cloverfield and Monsters since their respective releases.
I wouldn't say "no one" but you really do have to be a film person to know about all of them
Would like to say Matt Reeves did Dawn of the Planet of the Apes the Sequel to Rise of the planet apes but these Title are a bit confusing that watched Dawn before Rise. Love the video though.
Did I say rise? Damn it I did. Honestly, I get them mixed up because I always think Dawn of the planet of the apes sounds more like it should be the name of the first one haha.
My bad!
I really wish mouse guard was made, everything I saw about it was awesome
Do you think Wes a LITTLE obsessed with Avatar?
15 years strong! haha
One thing I noticed about his directing style is that, he often make character feel aggressive toward a villians. Same goes to maze runner and kingdom, not sure it was Fox idea or he’s.
What I know so far, when Fox use to make hit movies back in the days, seems like every villains temp to make the hero feel pissed and aggressive towards them.
this was a great video. I reckon if the Zelda movie is good, especially if it's great, he may well get to direct an Avatar sequel as Cameron has said that he is not wedded to the idea of directing every single one
This is a great breakdown of Wes Ball. He clearly has talent with an ensemble cast. Should Disney give him a shot at X-Men?
He'd probably do better than most 😅
Audio is low 4:37
I admire him greatly. One day, I too will make a Legend of Zelda movie.
You should make a video on Yorgos Lanthimos
Ooooh, that would be fun! He has that new movie coming out this year with Emma stone again. I'll definitely cover him then
@@FrameVoyager he has many great things coming up and a very interesting past, he definitely deserves more attention!
Poor guy. Must be torture lol
haha not torture, still a great opportunity to work on that scale of production. But I think every creative or contractor gets the sting of not getting to work on "your" thing of your project. In client work and in stuff like this. That's more of the point
Is he?
More like Hollywood in general.
Endless fantasy yawners!
Awful movie
This is hardly that interesting of a story to base an essay on. He got to make his debut feature a big studio movie, complete the trilogy, and if it’s only been a few movies canceled, he’s doing just fine
This videos is pointless....
Lmao how so?
