He did not walk underneath the Stab. The Aileron doesn't go far enough down to have to worry about it. You would have to be nearly 7 ft tall to get hit. Nothing unsafe about it.
I didnt know the backseater had flight controls. I always assumed they were a non-pilot. This is good to see that if your pilot becomes incapacitated, that punching out and loosing the jet is not your only option
WSOs aren't pilots. There are controls in the rear seat because the F-15E was developed from the two-seat F-15D which had controls in the rear for training purposes. Obviously WSOs are familiar with how to use the controls and could fly the airplane temporarily if needed, but they are not trained to do so.
@Switch Just the military doing military things. Like when the British Air Force wouldn't issue parachutes to their pilots in WW1 because they thought that it would make the pilots bail instead of fighting to the death in case of damage.
@CannedCoochie I can confirm the only reason the E model has a backseat is because the D model did. At the time the contract came down to make an air to ground combat aircraft Boeing was putting in a bid for it. The F-15A/B/C had all been, per company motto, "Not a pound for air to ground" but now that the USAF wanted air to ground they wanted to bid. The req didn't actually require a backseat, but it was easier and cheaper with a production line already rolling for the E model to come along if it used the same cockpit set up as the D model. I'm not sure if there is a documentary about it, but this story is relatively well known and can be looked up if you'd like to get finer details of it. Fun fact: The F-4 is technically part of Boeing history as well since it was made by McDonnell Douglas which was later absorbed into Boeing. The F-15 was also originally a MD jet, of course. As for the F-15E and all other variants that come after it, the backseat is now realized for its potential so it's here to stay, but it was never part of the original requirement for the contract it was competing for.
Great walk around, although at 2:15 the max Mach of the F15e with CFTs fitted is around Mach 1.8 in the perfect scenario (clean, low fuel, weather), Mach 1.5 is more realistic.
i have seen clips of F-15 pilots and WSO as if their seats SEEMS lifted upwards from a lower level to their normal flight control height but have seen much more pilots just climb in from outside.... what is the difference ??? what causes me to see like the seats as if lifted upwards from a lower level or seats could sink downwards for some purposes then resume back to normal height???

He’s talking about getting the fighter jet that you want after pilot training. Does the F-15 have more slots to those who want this aircraft is what he’s asking.
I retired from the AF in ‘94 and back then the top 10 percent of the graduates in each class got to choose the aircraft they wanted to fly and the others were given specific aircraft depending on mission requirements. Not sure how aircraft assignments are done today. My youngest son has been in for 11 years and his son is named Jett Landon……and I’m hoping he will get to land some jets in the future to help keep us free!!
He is talking about the various BRU's on the jet which stands for bomb rack unit. Some can mount smart munitions like the JDAM, SDB, etc and some cannot with the non smart racks being limited to LGBs, dumb bombs, unguided clusterbombs, etc.
i figured the only time this Airforce pilot's ego got humbled was when he had to explain what the tailhook was for.. obviously evaded the "no we can't land on the boat" answer by telling us "it's fully capable of doing a ground arrested landings" lmao

Hi Jamie. Do you maybe have a view of the F-15E Rear cockpit controls. i am needing it for my book research. to write how a rear passenger has to take over for the unconscious pilot with another F-15E giving him guidance.

First, China has no intention to fight with US, second, J20 is 5th generation stealth air superiority fighter while F15 series is 4th generation no matter how to upgrade. F22 is much more capable in dealing with J20.
