Moong masoor dal is a delicious and nutritious dish made from a combination of two types of lentils: moong dal (split yellow mung beans) and masoor dal (red lentils). It's a popular dish in Indian cuisine and is often cooked with various spices and herbs to create a flavorful and aromatic meal. The lentils are typically boiled until soft and then seasoned with ingredients like onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and a blend of spices. Moong masoor dal is not only tasty but also rich in protein, fiber, and essential nutrients, making it a wholesome choice for a balanced diet.
Here's a simple recipe for Moong Masoor Dal (Mixed Lentil Curry):
    Ingredients:
    - 1/2 cup split yellow moong dal (lentils)
    - 1/2 cup split red masoor dal (lentils)
    - 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
    - 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    - 1 onion, finely chopped
    - 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
    - 1 teaspoon ginger paste
    - 1 teaspoon garlic paste
    - 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    - 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
    - 1 teaspoon garam masala
    - Salt, to taste
    - Chopped cilantro (coriander leaves), for garnish
    Instructions:
    1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for about 30 minutes.
    2. In a pressure cooker or pot, heat oil or ghee. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
    3. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
    4. Add ginger and garlic paste. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
    5. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and the oil starts to separate.
    6. Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pot. Mix well with the tomato mixture.
    7. Add water (about 3 cups) and mix. Close the pressure cooker lid or cover the pot. If using a pressure cooker, cook for about 3-4 whistles, and if using a pot, cook until the lentils are soft and fully cooked (about 20-25 minutes on medium heat).
    8. Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and give the dal a good stir. If it's too thick, you can add more water to achieve the desired consistency.
    9. Add garam masala and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    10. Garnish with chopped cilantro (coriander leaves).
    11. Serve the Moong Masoor Dal hot with steamed rice or roti (Indian bread).
Enjoy your homemade Moong Masoor Dal!
