Chord progression:
II: Dm7 I G7 I Cmaj7 I Cmaj7 :II
In theory, the C major scale works throughout!
C major scale - C D E F G A B
Next up, I'd try outlining the chord tones/arpeggios:
Cmaj7 arpeggio = c e g b
Dmin7 arpeggio = d f a c
G7 arpeggio = g b d f
Playing C Major scale will result in C Ionian (Cmaj7 chords), D Dorian (Dm7 chords) and G Mixolydian (G7 chords) - all the same 7 notes!
Next up, I'd recommend trying out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (G7/G13) by using the
G diminished 1/2-1 tone scale = G Ab Bb B C# D E F (G)

Thank you ! Is it possible to have tab notation for the drum loop on this video.....somethig you can see as its playing ?... who could do that for me, if not available ...thanks again
Quist thank you for sharing bro. the tracking is really cool 😎 man, specially the way you play the 2-5-1, on C Major. I'm telling you bro. you're sound great, I mean like a professional. keep up the good work. I just got interested in playing jazz 2-years ago, but this year I learned a few jazz guitar chords. Just passing time I'm 73 years, but away love the jazz music since I was very young
Can you teach me your scale that you used. Hehe
I'm old...I've been playing guitar for 30 years. I have bad arthritis and about 3 months ago I fell over a wall onto a two foot slab of concrete. I broke my right wrist badly and crushed thye ball that holds your arm in the socket at the shoulder. I'm ready to go...clean bill of health. First and foremost I am a drummer, singer, songwriter. I have excellent fretboard knowledge and theory. Circle of 5th etc. so why am I doing this considering your post is three years old. I want to be a better guitar player...unlearn bad habits.
C D E F G A Bdim C
w w h w w w h
1st 3rd and the 5th make a C chord. C,E,G
I really know stuff but I'm slow...I need to learn to compensate.
sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the account password. I love any help you can give me!
Nothing beats practicing jazz licks at 5am when everyone is asleep. Great track. Cheers.
…On a saxophone 😳
True
I can agree with that.
100%
doing it rn but 3 am :D
Dude I cannot even describe how helpful this is to me. I am a jazz piano player, and often times I can't find anything to practice with because everything in Jazz seems to have piano in it and I cant focus on what I'm playing compared to them. This is a common 2-5-1 chord progression and it helps me brainstorm stuff to do for soloing, and I can actually hear my own piano chords so that is making me a much better player. Thanks so much!
200,000 views already! Thanks for tuning in to work on your jazz chops ya'll - HAPPY JAMMING! #jazz #playalong #twofiveone #backingtracks #mediumswing #jazzpractice #jamtrack
Jamming with my son to this one an almost daily basis now dude - damn you = addictive :)
Draxtor Despres duuuude, that is so fr***in cool man! Have you had a go at the one in all 12 keys yet? #challenge 2-5-1 Jazz Practice Backing Track - 12 Keys in 30 minutes!
QuistJam my son is forced to do Suzuki on the violin by his mean teacher [just kidding. she great!] so for REWARD purposes we JAM JAM JAM and yes = should do 12 keys next!!! THANK YOU!!
+Draxtor Despres Awesome Draxtor! Sounds like a balanced approach to learning the violin and music in general :-)
Hi
For the jazzers out there.. more swinging 2-5-1 tracks are on the way! Bb next... any specific keys you want?
How about A major? :) Thank you for these backing tracks.
QuistJam Luca carboni
Eb...Ab...Gb...Db. It's time to get serious.
2-5-1 in all keys, but instead of moving in fourths, have the major I turn into the ii of the next key (Like the bridge in wave) Thanks!
@@jacobloreant1580 you got it, that's a great way to do it
Sometimes when improvising i just close my eyes and before i know it im not even playing the "right" scale anymore but it still sounds awesome. I love jazz.
Dude I used this track to learn jazz guitar, walking bass, jazz piano and jazz drum set. Absolutely perfect
The best way to learn to improvise this type of stuff is
1) create a line , stolen or inspired mostly from a hero you love, who touches your heart and soul. For me me, it Clint Strong.
2) learn the line slowly, in one position.
By learning, this means repeating it perhaps a couple of hundred times. Stop whenever your hand hurts!!
3)resist the temptation to practice anything else, just focus on this one thing, for hours, days ,weeks, however long it takes to achieve total mastery over this one lick.
4) repeat over the backing track, and as it burns into your subconcious, watch in awe how you'll naturally add little of your own decorations and variations of rythm onto the line.
5) repeat the process, for the exact same line, in as many positions on the neck as possible, at least half a dozen.
Don't put a time frame on your practice, just focus on this one thing, and enjoy it, loose yourself in the music.
If you practice too many different things, you'll master nothing, instread focus on mastering one thing, and your playing will elavate.
Damn.. I read that while the backing track was playin. That speech touched my heart. lol. Great information though, man.
thanks for the advice
Fantastic advice. Thanks for taking the time!
jerry levy ok

I love it, I can play random notes over the top and it sounds like Jazz

Thanks for 1 million views on this!!!
anytime man, anytime
been practicing with this track for about a week as a warm up before lessons. the freedom I experiencilize, with no worries, no high expectations (it's only a warm up, I say to myself), is so great. Thank you.
experiencilize? 😂👍
Thank you sir! for such a wonderful track.....This has become my daily chop builder.
🙏🙌
You can add the VI chord (A7) to the mix with this new jazz jam track: Medium Swing Jazz Backing Track (2-5-1-6 in C) :)
Why A7 ? Am7 is VI of C
trestresbrel true. Making the VI into a 7th chord is a common thing in jazz, as you will see it leads towards the IIm that way (Dm7) in an even stronger way... the "expensive" word for it is Secondary Dominant.... I hope that helps :)
the amount of hours ive looped this....... So helpful and fun!!!!!
I've been listening to this into for a few years and I can't get over it... your solo was just too perfect and it's time I learn it
im a begginer on piano, and since a 2-5-1 is easy too keep up with in the left hand, this made a great solo track.
hellya ... I knew, you played good intros on your Blues Tracks ... but this is another dimension .... killing it ...
So good to be able to quote "I've got you under my skin" in this
+Alain Potier great!!
That was the jazziest jam ive had so far
So cool that over 3 million people have jammed to this 😏
these tracks are so fun to play with! also it is awesome to watch over the solos you do over the beats! keep it up.
+Sheridan Wrz thank you - have fun!!
Haha😂 Am I the only Saxophonist here?
This is perfect for slow improvisation!
Me too man
Haha I thought I was the only one. There are no specific sax backing tracks so I use all kinds of blues guitar backing tracks.
Your wonderful tracks have made the transition into Jazz soloing much smoother than I anticipated, and you have my immense gratitude.
Great to hear!!!
These are great, Quist. I love them for myself and my students. We watch (and listen to) them a lot!
Thank you! So great to hear 🙏🙌
perfect track for improvising on pennywhistle in C
C major is so cool and easy, I love it
There’s nothing like making you feel like shit before you improvise
It's not necessary to play fast, just start with simple melody
There’s nothing like quitting because you don’t get it quick, like you get everything else in life. It takes years. If you don’t have a love of guitar and patience it’s not for you.
😂
That basa was really helpfull. The Best backing 251 tracks i've found.
Thanks for the video - you make the GREAT job! YOUR VIDEO HELPS A LOT !
We're completely spoiled with your amazing backing tracks, thank you.!
As a request ,how about a ii v i track going through all the keys?
GREAT idea Jerry!! I will def make that.. I'm about to go on tour though, will see if I can get it together asap, if not b4 the tour, it'll def be first on the list when I'm back!!
Thanks for that! Only just started getting into Jazz, and the example that you played at the beginning really helped me to find a few similar licks of my own.
Excellent!!
Your. Jazz is awesome, I find it very inspiring.
Sometimes people will alter the ii from minor to half diminished. If you look at it as d locrian, you can alter it further by playing Ab lydian. From here you can also alter the G7 with a b9 before resolving to C major. Alternately, you can alter all three chords from C harmonic major (c major scale with b6) making the d locrian the same besides no lowered second. Altering the scale on the two by using Ab as mode of F jazz melodic minor works just as well as using Ab as a mode from C harmonic major.
harmonic minor half step above the G7 chord sounds great either (G# harmonic minor=G superlocrian)
Thank you brother! You give us wings to go higher. God bless.
It's easily to jam for anyscale , nice lick
After a long day of school this put me to sleep so easily lol!
Thank you most wonderful and powerful Quist. I'm better than all my friends cause of these jams.
God loves you!!! Keep playing

Sounds great with pentatonics going Amin/Bb min/Bmin
(learned that from Jules Guitar)
Excellent
And a BIG THANK YOU for the Bass-less version
Thank you Thank you
YES SOMETHING I CAN DO BASS SOLO OVER FOR JAZZ BAND PRACTICE :))
A7 is a secondary dominant functional, and is formed in the 5th grade of Dm7
indeed..
I don't know what that means
@@losermcgee1318 I understand all the words, but when putting it together it feel like language from outer space lol.
Like what is secondary dominant
@@Floydandsome the dominant of the dominant
A7-D7-G is an example if the secondary dominant resolving to the dominant that resolves to the tonic
Had the greatest time playing to this, cheers
awesome :))
ty very much for this---so dang helpful. godspeed to u and urs

Great playing.
I'm using it to study arpegios, just playing notes of the triad.
Absolutely brilliant to jam over.
nice music... from QUITO, ECUADOR....
very good for practice
Excellent backing track! I've just started studying Jazz like 1 month and a half ago. I've been playing for looong time...but now, I really want to play and enjoy it! But, obviously, I find it really difficult...but that's the point! (I don't know even what I can do with this 2-5-1...apart of playing 1-3-5-7 arpeggios!) Anyway, thanks!. Regards!
great stuff.... it's a BIG puzzle.. lots of pieces to complete the full puzzle that is "jazz improvisation"... :)
Very nice! Thanks!
Thank you Michelangelo Togni - enjoy :)
