Yo, your dad looks mesmerized and shocked :-D To be fair, thats what the series is all about - brutally honest, sterotypical but yet anti-racist. It's just that the last bit is not as obvious as the others. In Germany me and my friends loved this show. It was the first show that broke the barrier between "high-class-wokeism" and youth-talk who didnt give a shit about what word is inappropriate to say and what not. In short: A open minded, woke message with a damn dirty mouth.

@@ghostbravo7127 Because you have people who reinforced the idea in the african american community that they have to be uneducated, success is commercialism, tribalism and hedonism, they destroyed the parts of african american culture that promoted intelligence and called it "acting caucasian" the people who did this were in the rap industry and they were not african americans, they were jewish people surprisingly. They made african americans identify with helplessness violence and stupidity. People need to realize that just because you are african american, you don't have to act like a gangster, it doesn't make one caucasian to speak correctly, to have a wide vocabulary and to philosophize. Doing this is to have the same people who actually oppress you and make you helpless, giving them control over your life and the appearance of being on your side, when they really caused all of this, by their own toxic reinforcement of what they wanted for you to become like. The are the ultimate narcissistic psychopaths who want people to be mindless drone consumers who listen to noise for people with brain damage, they want you to not succeed, to not think, to not question the system as it is, but to reinforce it and just degrade into hedonistic, animalistic, and selfish materialism.

I can't think of any show where episode #1 told you exactly who the characters were, who the writers were, and what the show was about (satire, dark humour, etc) in a more well executed way. This was the first show where I had to pause scenes multiple times because of how much I was laughing. It's good to hear this from your pop's perspective, since I was a teenager when this came out. Hell yeah, Boondocks! I always felt as if that was the point in history when racial issues were at a low point. You had great comedians like Dave Chappell, breaking down walls making everyone bust out laughing while at the same time acknowledging issues. (Historical as well as present ones) There was no way of knowing that free expression like that would erode like it did in the 17 years to come. Boondocks in 2022 is a shock to the system, revealing how much censorship of free expression has narrowed the creative avenues artists / writers can pursue. It's a great show that could never be brought back in its true former glory nowadays.

I remember as a kid, I watched the 1st few episodes with my Grama. She was like a teen in the 1940s-50s so she went through some things. But watching this first episode?…She was messed up! 😂 but she kept watching along with me. She was a good sport. I miss my lady, she’s my ancestor now 🕊️💕

Though I watched a lot of cartoons as a kid, I never saw Boondocks and I think that's 'cause I'm Australian so it was probably on an exclusive channel I didn't have. For some reason, I've seen clips on YT over the past 2-3 years tho. Can't say I understand all of it because it's a different culture, but the core of its message still hits is the same due to the similar start of our countries. Real interesting to hear some American perspective and past experience from your Dad there; that's what makes this more special as a react video instead of just being 2 guys giggling at a cartoon and calling it a day.

Gary Anthony Williams voices Uncle Ruckus and with a little hair and makeup he actually looks very similar and dresses up in cosplay and would attend events, it's pretty funny. He also would call in to one of the radio stations around Atlanta I think? and do some jokes with them. All pretty funny stuff you should check out sometime if you can find it.
Can't wait for pops to see more Boondocks. He looked really impressed with the premier episode and in my opinion they get 10 times better later on!! 🔥 🔥 🔥

I’m 26 from Australia and watched this with my (mostly white) friends and family growing up and always wondered about black American culture afterwards, I know it’s a weird place to start but I didn’t have any black American friends so I got curious from watching this and it’s pretty much the only reason I know anything about black culture over there, not that I know that much really. This show to you guys is what “the big lez show” only found on UA-cam, is to Australians.

From my perspective, this show is the generation born from the 70's through the 80's version of self reflection in a comedy format. Lot's of "familiar characters" to those from that era. The parent/guardian that pines for the 60's. Kids raised by grandparents. The "Gangsta/Hustle" culture. Etc. Its bridges into later generations, but the focus is on that 70-80's kids view of the world. It is a little more race focused than actual day to day life would be in reality, but its entertainment which exaggerates for effect.
However, in terms of social commentary, its a very poignant series for when it came out. Hugely popular when it came out.. Even to the point it was bootlegged.
