10:08 Man I think the most important thing a parent can do to overcome that is to just be willing to admit it to their kids when they’re wrong or make a mistake. Simple enough.
27:21 By this point, they've witnessed an old man getting beaten to death by Granddad (and then coming back from Hell as an evil spirit possessing one of their friends), a woman killing herself with a grenade at the "advice" of her toxic friend, several gunfights between groups of people, a woman nearly dying from a heart attack, Ruckus getting struck by lightning, Bushido getting decapitated by the Hateocracy, a psychotic kid who commits several acts of crime, prison inmates starting a riot, the fried chicken flu pandemic, etc... by the time Mister accidentally killed himself, they're so desensitized by violence that a guy snapping his own neck seems mundane to them.
"break the cycle" is something I've been having to do in my family, being at that my family comes from criminals and drug addicts, I've had quite the uphill battle. You are 100% on point, and I really appreciated hearing your perspective. Great video! Keep em' coming!
Generational trauma. Complex PTSD. Generations of coping mechanisms. Unloading stress on other people because everyone in this story is emotionally and developmentally stunted and knows no other way of dealing with stress. The messed up thing is that I think his mom did more damage to him trying to comfort him then his dad did because of her own shame. It's a powerful story. To justify a dumb character. I love it Please don't hit or yell at your kids. And don't project and lie to them. You're an adult, be patient and act like it, let kids be kids.
Negative reinforcement has it's place and time. Just like there is no one size fits all parenting, some kids will respond to physical punishment better then to other stuff. Not because they are bad, meaner or whatever, but because some people are honestly that type of physical learners. Finding out what works with your kid is one of the outmost important duty of a parent.
I love DC Curry. Just hearing his voice makes me think "you look like you're about to go tell on somebody right damn now." I can't tell you how funny it is hearing Ruckus compare his revitaligo to Venom. But most importantly, I love hearing you talking about how we're all responsible for our own lives. It's easy to forget that sometimes. I just want to add, if someone works hard all their life, it doesn't matter what they have. They should never be dumped on for being a hard working poor person, much less by their parent.
Honestly, it's kind of funny they mentioned Eli Whitney - his invention of the Cotton Gin was *meant* as a means to reduce how much labor was needed, thus lowering the demand for slavery - he just kinda forgot the fact that plantation owners could now just put those slaves towards harvesting the cotton instead of plucking the seeds out of it.
The invention of the cotton gin greatly increase the demand for slavery. Actually the demand to buy more land and enslave more people increase greatly because of the gin.
At the end Riley said: "Why you ain't laughin' Huey" made me realize I've heard Riley laugh a bunch of times as kids do.... but I have never once, looking back at it, heard Huey laugh at anything.
I love how at the ending, the Freemans finally meet a family more fucked up than theirs 🤣 Life lesson: Someone else has it worse out there, so be grateful!
