Waldo | A Slowly Dying City In Florida

- Waldo, Florida is looking pretty bad. This area has been on a severe decline for many decades and it really doesn't look as if its going to get better any time soon. Once a flourishing area full of hotel resorts, cigar businesses, and other factories, now mostly abandoned and forgotten. With a population of just 809 people, there's over a 4% decline each year. Poverty is hovering around 21%, and median household income is only 24,139 dollars. This is for educational purposes. Let's take a drive and see what it looks like.
I'm German, but I often fly to the USA on vacation. I drive through your beautiful country in a rental car and just stay where I want. Sometimes I pass through beautiful areas but with run-down houses of little value. But what I will never understand is that every now and then there are cars worth $30,000 parked outside the door...how does that work????
I guess we know where Waldo is now
I lived near Waldo in the late 80s, first in Melrose then Gainesville. All I remember about Waldo is the Flea Market and that dang speed trap.
Thanks for the ride. Florida is a very expensive state to live in and usually spend state money on "tourist" towns and cities !!!
They Looted Lots Of Not familiar Passing By Travelers with Their Unlawful Speed Limit Laws.....Specially Kids Traveling Through Of University Of Florida!!! I Call it BAD KARMA!!!!
Notorious speed trap.
It got to a point where their only income was speed traps !
Can't say it don't look peaceful.
Nice trip! Thank you for the tour.
Awesome video man
Pretty area with a cool flea market but the speed traps there are insane
Good Saturday morning Hoods N Hollers, appreciate the videos!
So much green! 💚💚💚
Such a shame - bet it was nice at one time. Didn't see a single person in the video!
I love going to the Antique Shop there at the Flea Market. We also like shopping at the store right down from the Antique Shop. The people there are so friendly.
I used to drive my Father from Jacksonville to the VA in Gainesville and drove through there so many times. Drive the speed limit!!!
Never heard of this part of Florida before
Taxes highest in Florida!!
Love those cyphrus & moss trees, so beautiful. I could live in these backwoods.
Just want to say I appreciate all the content you upload but I just wanted to let you know that stay safe when you do these videos. Especially when you drive through sketchy neighbourhoods slowly. Cause you never know with some people, they can run up to your car and open it.
I like it the peace and quiet and natural beauty.
I just love it. So quiet and unassuming
So much green
Lovely
Thanks!
Thank you!
Too crowded for me !!
It is a really pretty spot, though.
Great video
Thanks for watching!
The speed trap town
Awesome!! Love this channel! 👍👍
Kinda looks like a Centralia with houses
That looks like the most dampest place to live.
Waldo had a revenue problem so they decided to turn it into a speed trap. So people stopped going through there making it worse.
I remember when,, I always slowed to 25 mph before city limits on Hwy 301,,😅
I’m from Florida and I never heard of this city
I think this was filmed right after Milton
No it was before all of that
Looks like all of Florida really.
How sad to see another city go to ruins.
This would be the rich area if it were in Brazil
Nice rain-washed puddles.
If you hadn't said this was in Florida, I would have sworn it was in Missouri.
Beautiful
If I lived in a place like that I would have to get a group together clean the place up, there is no way I could stand that mess, unbelievable, sad it is just left like that, doesn’t paint a pretty picture, it is as if no one cares.
Didn't Rod Serling of Twilight Zone film an episode here ?
It's in Florida, so I can picture rich investors buying up the land and turning it into an upscale retirement town.
Looks way better than Dade City.
"Sit down, Waldo!" - D. Lee Roth
What do the residents do there?"
My god bless America ❤
Gotta say it looks bad in some areas but not terrible in many parts.
