- 1080p details test of 3MOS panasonic CMOS Pro sensor. Details test. This sensor is main sensor of Pro-Handycam series 900, 800, 700 and other bigger product of Panasonic Camcorders. Lots of Details, one big minus is a 4 blades iris - it produces not good looking bokech and "iris stars" - this is only present in low cost camcorders, handycams. In Pro-Broadcast we've 6blades, i whish to have 8 or more blades to reproduce awesome bokech.
We're using this great camcorders as add cameras on rally stages ;)
Beautiful work! But I freaked out when I saw that rock almost hit the camera ha ha!
I really like this video!
Under the influence of this work, I bought a Panasonic camcorder 920 :)
OMG- what kind of colours and sharpness-amazing !!! Hot clip tx for sharing !
On picture adjust I set sharpness at +3 , colour +1, exposure at -2 . I feel the camera default 0 for exposure is so you see more things in the shadow making it brighter, but it does not help in overall picture quality, it washes it out. Select MANUAL mode to do this. And for smooth picture quality I use 100th of a second, high shutter causes a more robotic jumpy less fluid result Try it , it works for me.
Thanks! Sweet :] Gonna love this little camera! Keep on the good work ;D
Nice to hear that, you like our work - on this small cams, we often use Polarizing filters and half-ND filters...
great footage, I cant wait to pick up a 900
This looks amazing. Congratulations
Panasonic should have used your video to promote this camera, I know we're six years down the line, would you mind sharing what video camera kit you use today.
Your video is wonderful, it's the main reason I've kept mine and picked up a second one too, tried the DSLR route. Show me a DSLR that could keep up with the SD 900 just on auto focus. Main reasons here in my Amazon review:
Camcorder kills DSLR
I started with one of these, now have two. I have tried the dslr video route, once you have tried this you will realise how wonderful the 900 series cameras really are. If in doubt check out the video link below, the only extras I would recommend wold be screw on circular ND and Polarising filter.
It can do what any dslr can, including depth of field, accurate follow and screen touch focus and you won't have to cart a tripod around wherever you go just to get a steady shot. You are limited to 1080 but it will shoot at 1080/50, if you need 4k Panasonic covers that base too, but remember not many viewers have monitors/TV's that can view this. If I want 4K footage I'll use my drone.
The SD 900 comes with both headphone and mic jack and features on board 5.1 audio, even if I use it as and audio recorder (which I can and do) it's worth the money just for that, pick up the SD900 up on auction site for £200 upwards, no moving parts nothing to go wrong as long as the Leica lens is in good condition, which is protected by an inbuilt automatic lens cover.
They come on various incarnations 900 800 all three chip just try to get the one with manual controls, White balance, Focus ring, Shutter speed and Apature.
Hope this helps cheers Tony
the video link wonderful SD900 1080 footage... ua-cam.com/video/2dlVBYj-LkY/v-deo.html
Now that's a render!
Great demonstration of howt knowing your kit and how to use it is more important than the kit itself. Quite apart from the capture, you've mananged to render at a quality that is rare on UA-cam.
You mentioned you also took an HMC151. How does that compare? I'm considering a 2nd hand one, but wondering if technology advances have made it redundant.
In sports events we use only camcorders, without matteboxes, rigs (only tripod). The small cams we're using only for static shots. Our settings are always fully manual. Iris, shutterspeed etc. We also shot in 50FPS and we set DigitalCinema. We often use only a circular polarizer with this small cams. Some shots were colour-blanced (mastered) to fit with our A (bigger) Cams (HMC150/170 and AC160).
Fantastic footage! I have a question: which camera was used for the shot at 2:21 with the mountain scenery? The effective resolution is fantastic! I hope it's the x900 because that's on my xmass wishlist ;]
@khyrofilms thanks! I usually use mp4 compression with h264 codec for 720p and bitrate about 6-7Mbit
you are indeed fortunate !
Can't wait for the new HC-X920 to come out in February 2013 in the UK.
There is no gold rule for settings... it's depend for footage what you need to compress (if more dynamic, then you need increase bitrate, if more "static" then you can lower bitrate) - this is not a forum, try to register to some editor's forums, there will be lots of examples and tutorials...
Super !
@khyrofilms DigitalCinema... interesting =D You make very professional shots! =)
2013 MY FAVORITE CAMERA ! ANTONIO ! ARMANDO !
Fantastic. I've been shooting DSLR's for a while and mostly accompany with a Canon. I started using my Panasonic LX5 more and more for video and love the results I've seen from theTM900 and X900. Can you describe your rig (matteboxes, filtration, stabilization, etc)? I'm guessing that you filtered most of those shots. The dynamic range looks quite good and I mean National Geographic good!
Great video and awesome colors, i'm looking into buying the HC-X900M. How close to the camera was the rock that bounced off @ 0:47?
@ETR524 fully manual, DigitalCinema mode on.
thank you!!
fajny film
Did you use manual white balance ? If so was it white or neutral grey paper?
This is my Channel and my rules. Sometimes we're also using zoom in recording, but only when we planned fast cut/edit, in that cases zoom is allowed. In this case is a test of CMOS details, not function of camera. You should not use zoom - use movement of whole camera, of course as you said - sometimes the zooming when recording is important to make "more energetic feel" - in pair with good fast cut/edit. /regards
ok I subscribed to you, and one more question. between the hc-x800 and the hc-x900 which one has the best video / sound quality? and is it true that the hc-x800 is cheaper?
Awesome...
Which cam did you used Panasonic TM900 or SDT750 ?!?
Thank you !
Panasonic are great, models SD600 and SD800 are so impressive too!
Wow thankyou!!! I subscribed to you as well!
cool thanks!
I have some more questions. Does the quality look this good when I get it out of the box and charged? Or do I need to change settings in it? One more question. I don't know whether to get a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, or to get this amazing camera. Please respond, thank you.
AWESOME! how did you obtain so cute colors? (iA mode? which one? or what?)
Does the camera have a zoom IN , zoom out function ?
If so why did you not show us it in motion ?
oh ok. I have Sony Vegas Pro v11 but what are your render settings? I can't seem to find good render settings:(
as i read the engine pro IIreduce the noise by 40% from the old engine in sdt750 is that true? do you see any difference
its in Andes near Argentina-Chile border... and you're right its X900 ;)
did you used a cover protection for dust ?
and of course sometimes half-nd filters mounted directly on this small cams...
is that slowmotion filmed with the hc x900 is that just 50frames and than editet slow or is there a function on it
what do you edit with?
I have the same camera, not even similar image to what you're getting :/
Nice.
@kanuvigi i used: sdt750 in 80% of shots, TM900 at end, X900 in scene when VW amarok stays under the tree.... my favorites are SDT750 and TM900, but mostly SDT750 becouse this cam can use panasonic HMC150/HMC151 batteries ;)
ok. when you first get the hc-x900m, is the quality as good as this? the footage is amazing
Nice done! But if i look at the other video's of Panasonic HC-X900 the movement look weird.
what program did you use in this video?
Possible, but we not use it in low light conditions. The noise up to 9dB is ok, over this point all cameras generated visible noise. The 1/4 sensor is not good for low light, but for amateur use it is acceptable. The 900 is little better, but we prefer SDT750 and old TM models becouse they use the same type of batteries that we use for HMC models.
But still nice shot... Photographing sports is a dangerous thing to do, but hey... somebody got to do it!
ok thanks
would you need to export the footage to 24 fps and then render the entire sony vegas project to 24 fps? just curious
That is very cool music! Where did you get it!
ive seen this Same video stating its filmed by the HC-X920M
So this Video must not be from the x900? Correct me if im wrong
It seems that the image is so sharp particularly owing to faster shutter speed. What shutter speed did you use?
You're asking about shutter.... this vid is old.... ;) but in sport we're using 1/250 minimum.... so probably the we used shutter 1/125-1/250
Thanks for the info! This vid is not that old ;)
Panasonic make the best cams
Does this camera have auto focus?
Which camera did you use in the scene from 1:07 to 1:12?
HMC151 is a CCD not full 1920x1080 sensor, so details in HD are different, also colour profile is different, so HMC151 is a great cam, but now the best choice is AC-160 (becouse of 50fps in fullHD) - if you use 2 different cams, You need to set your program presets to match cams. Record the same scene (for ex, landscape) and match the cams using colour management, then you'll see how to set picture profiles in camcorder... or use color correction in software
Hello, i am a 14 year old film maker from London. I write & direct low budget short films with a friend of mine, and we use the Panasonic X900. Take a look at our most recent upload to see the quality of video it shoots.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAMERA HC-X900 PAL SO WHICH VIEOS MODES WORKS WELL ON PRIMIER PRO EG 1080P\1080PI HE HA ND OTHERS I AM USING AG-DVX 100B, PLEASE HELP
The output was MP4 8Mbit 1080 25p, you need to understand mp4 encoding and L-Gop. When you use "static" frames - the frames with not much movement, the quality will be noticable better than in movie where lots of details moves in time. So when in your film you've lots of movement you should use higher bitrate, when you have movie with no radical movement you can lower bitrate. UA-cam have constant bitrates for video, so the quality looks better for "static" films.
Knowledge + SonyVegas V10 + Pansonic Handycams - yes. Only Program and Camera is not enought ;)
do you remember what filters u used on the hc-x900
hmm, long time, but sometimes i used polar filter, or half/gray filter... ;)
Who said zooming is not allowed? Who makes the rules & why shouldn't rules be broken? That's what makes creative video-making. I watched a pro TV program tonite & there was a zoom shot as we followed a car speed off down a road. There are surely many occasions when a zoom would be necessary as a moving the cam closer may not be possible eg zooming across a lake or up a tall building? But I do understand what you mean - zooming should not be over-used eg seventies movies and Spag Westerns!
;) i almost lost my life, i stand a 2meters behind this camera with tripod and HMC151, i saw whats happened and run away, the stone landed aprox 1meter from camera, it looks closer but camera filmed with little zoom ;)
Wow, I shoot AG AC160 and X900 with Vegas 12 and can't get these results.
We would PayPal you for a 10 minute lesson on your workflow!
It's near the same... the xseries are very good... you need to compare tech-specs - to se differences... ;)
Becouse in pro movie zooming is "not allowed" - zooming when filming is good for homevideos. Better to use zoom when pause, choose shot then record... zoom is used by us only for setting shots not use when filming... if you want to come to object move camera not zoomin ;)
I bought a Panasonic HC-X900M from B&H in 2013. I was busy with graduate school and did not have time to use it more than just a few times in the house and once at the aquarium (which is indoors). It's always stored in a carrying case inside my bedroom closet, which is maintained at 78 degrees F. Two weeks ago I tried to use the camcorder in the house -- just to play around. To my surprise, it was not working. Neither the focus control atop the camcorder nor the focus control on the LCD worked. I got an error message (Error occured. Please turn off, then turn on again). Of course, I followed the instruction. However, the problem still persist. Anyone with any suggestion?
Juan Palo The Camcorder is still practically brand new, considering that it has not been used more than a few times. I called B&H and was told that it could be a defected Panasonic product (a product with a "Hiccup" to be exact). I called Panasonic Corporation and was told that it will cost me $382.59 or more for repairs at their Factory Service. The Consumer Affairs person at Panasonic had a very angry disposition that made me very uneasy. When I asked why she was so angry, she replied in a very intimidating tone, that she was not angry. At this point, I am very disappointed with both B&H and Panasonic. I think that it is possible that B&H sold me a refurbished device (considering that the device was not sealed in plastic) for the price of a new device. This experience has been very irritating and will prevent me from buying anymore Panasonic products or from buying anything from B&H.

Juan Palo This is a common, when the OIS lens servos do not work correctly - this is (in my opinion) - an error in software in camera..... i suppose, that You need to return Your Device to reseller, for Lens Calibration
khyrofilms
khyrofilms: Thanks for your response. The repairs, as I mentioned, will cost approximately $400.00. I feel violated because I never got to really use the camcorder. Again, thanks for your response.
Juan Palo Take a look for Lumix FZ1000 - it's a great Bridge camera - 4K, and FullHD - a far better than handy camcorders.... !!
Of course you need to customize setup, but it's simple - next question is - if you need camera - buy camera - if you need gadget - buy phone. Remember, camera does not allow you to phone somebody ;)

how do you compress video for youtube upload, quality is superb.. mp4? mbps? thanks
did u ever find out
RAZOR sharp panasonic hc-x900.
Where is this? Utah, USA? Lol
Sonys are better I think, I bought a Sony TD20, how good is 2D on that without any after editing?
programs like adobe premier pro and after effects would also render high quality
SDT-750
what is better? a hc-x800 or a hc-x900? please respond I will subscribe if someone answers
aprox 0,3 meter
Sony Vegas Pro v10
WOW - sounds like a Police State! Good luck with your channel and your rules!
low light, in this case all cameras are poor, but in 98% you're filming in good light conditions, so panasonic beats sonys, price/quality ;) so you should stay with sony, i'll go with panasonic until the sony shows something that i need to use ;) regards /Mell
15FPS
At 0:47 you almost lost this camera... =)
SonyVegas Pro v10
Yep that's sharp bet get hold of a hacked GH2 and you'll be blown aways 130Mbps. I have the tm700 and it's a nice little cameras but the GH2 will eat it's lunch. I've also owned the HMC40, great sharp cam but low light sucked. See my channel for GH2 goodness.
why Am I seeing clipping ????? Or maybe it s just me ????
you don't need to subscribe my channel, it's not important... tehs X800 and X900 are near the same models, look at panasonic comparision between this two models, look at differences in tech-spec... the picture is identical, sound also good for both, in x800 you have no mic-input, no hot shoe pa nasonic.net/avc/camcorder/line-up/)
the image processing is the same ;)
cyberlink powerdirector 11 - waaaaay better features
show us... sonys are equal but more expensive ;) that's only one truth
If you make a test dont rip the original sound!
read again - 3MOS test - not audio test ;)
HC-X 900 can record 5.1 sound, HC-X 800 can't
HC-X 900 has manual settings (f.e. zoom) ring, HC-X 800 hasn't, you have to do it using touchscreen
HC-X 900 has mic input and headphones out, HC-X 800 hasn't
HC-X 900 has version called HC-X 900M which is the same as HC-X 900 but with 32gbs of internal memory
HC-X 900 has electronic viewfinder, HC-X 800 hasn't
HC-X 900 has ability to use mounted external light, HC-X 800 hasn't
So decide if you wanna pay extrabucks for these pluses.
